i cant tell if your joking or not : P

i think hes trying to ask why a pane of glass can block a flame. hes asking about the nature of a flame, hes assuming its merely energy, so since the glass can transmit energy why doesnt the flame just continue undisturbed through the glass. thats my best interpretation anyway.

what ATM said. ^^ while eventually we may be able to find a way to project SOMETHING in an arc like that it wont be something that will hold its shape and cut through anything except another lightsaber.

Touch lamp + plasma ball = regular lamp?
Callipygous replied to Callipygous's topic in Other Sciences
yeah, i had never actually researched it but thats what i figured after going through physics... but what does that mean? i overloaded my touchlamp and fried something? what did it fry? how? -
you have a 9 and no 5 : P

this is one my calc teacher used as a bonus question for his algebra students and had me solve for him so he had something to grade by. im betting it will take this forum all of about 5 secs, but i dont have any better ones : P s s _ _ s_|_|_|_ |_|_|_|_| s |_|_| grid shaped like above (only with straight lines : P) put in the numbers 1-8 in such a way that no two consecutive numbers are touching at either a side or a corner. so: s_ _ |8|7| and s_ |7| _ s s |8| are both bad. edit: ok... so would someone like to tell me how to make the spaces actually show up? i dont need to make a picture do i? for the meantime S=space

i have two plasma balls (the cool plastic sphere things with the purple lightning inside that goes to your hand when you touch it) and a touch lamp (turns on in three brightness stages when you touch it). when i got the first plasma ball i turned it on and noticed a couple things. 1. my radio became very unhappy. nothing but static, no volume control, clock counting down by minutes... very strange. 2. my touch lamp ceased to be a touch lamp. it is now a regular lamp only without an on off switch. when you plug it in, its on, when you unplug it, its... im gonna assume i dont have to explain that one... can someone explain to me what exactly happened to cause each of these effects? prefferably in fairly simple terms.

i think you should go anyway... it might hurt, it might break it worse... but you gotta have priorities. you cant let a little pain stop you from what you want to do. : D

physics is clearly superior to all other sciences.

was that a joke?

hmmm. interesting, but what im looking for is really focussed more long term, like the global warming. for example, one of the sources i have mentions that they have predicted that by 2080 all of the ice in the atlantic ocean will have receded/melted and it will just be all water. things like that are what im more interested in. and how they predict that the overall temperature of the earth will have raised x degrees in y years.
-
they dont keep going with the fish, eventually they have you do really important things, like finding the surface area and volume of a donut...
-
im curious about the computer models used to predict things like weather patterns and global warming. how accurate are they? how do they work? how much can we rely on them? i need to write a paper on this so detail in how they work is always good. also, any good sources you guys have come across?

most processor running temperatures i have seen i higher than most outdoor temperatures. unless there is a place where the temperature is hitting over 120-130 on a regular basis i dont think it would be much of a problem. (american, dont really know what 40c equates to...) found me an online temp converter. 40c= 104f. even my old processor ran at 112. my friend's runs at 132. world record high temp, as far as i can find, is 134. it shouldnt be much of a problem. cancel that, 134 in the US. seems libya hit 136 at one point.

i think tree is simply an arbitrary noun the teacher picked to check if they understood the ideas behind ^-1.

the only way the ball should move horizontally is if the car accelerates while its in the air. slowing down, speeding up, or turning.
-
id guess it would be more that you could see the similarities from up close but NOT from far away. octopus for example... they have the dexterity needed, but they dont look at all like us. dolphins have the intelligence, but dont look like us. im betting it would be some animal that has the right mix, like we do, but that their overall body shape would be completely different, but when you actually examine it all the similarities are there.
-
but more importantly... would all the nuclear plants overheat and explode and all the airplanes crash to the ground and all that jazz and basically destroy massive portions of the ecosystem? id say the chances are slim to none. while a similar species may evolve from the monkeys to fill our niche, i dont think you could have an identical species come back up.

yeah... i mentioned the spudgun weapon, but i really dont care. use me if you want, give me whatever details you want.
-
well... did it work or not? be good scientist, post your findings for peer review.

i want my weapon to be a laserguided spudgun. not like proffessional laser guidance, i mean a laser pointer taped to the top. main ammunition being D-cell batteries. also with an exploding variety for special occasions.
