Actually the bird community are too busy developing miniature heat seeking missiles to attach to their wings. They are presently seeking advice on lightweight heat shields. These weapons are being developed by the hawks, but the doves are opposing this in favour of negotiation. http://www.answers.com/topic/doves-and-hawks

The truth that I can't escape is that there is no deeper meaning

As someone who is basically an atheist (more atheist than agnostic) I completely agree with this statement. -
Why does holding a pistol sideways like in the movies not really work?
Joatmon replied to Fanghur's topic in Engineering
Just a small detail but you also have to allow for the wind pushing the bullet sideways. A thin vertical blade for the foresight gives you something to aid judgement. edit: although this is true, at the range you would use a pistol and the expected size of your target its not usually a consideration - I was thinking of a rifle! -

I see it as more basic than that, although I suppose it depends on your definition of value. I think we value what makes us feel good and so like to repeat the experience. We apply negative value to whatever makes us feel bad and so try to avoid repeating that experience. In other words purpose doesn't need to come into it. The problem now is how do we define "feel good" and "feel bad"? Later edit: I suppose another way of saying what I think is "If there is a purpose in life it can be condensed to the realisation that we are naturally driven to repeat what feels good and avoid what feels bad. The only trouble with that is what feels good and what feels bad are not the same for each individual. What adds complication is that the balance of these factors change with age for any one individual. -

Living in the UK I am surprised at the level of antagonism that exists between theists and atheists. Believers in God are not people that pray and then wait for gifts from God. The ones I know are concerned for the people of the world in a material sense. They are active in many charitable acts by donating from their own incomes and organising relief for people in need and those involved in natural disasters. They are tolerant of non-believers and generally just get on with their way of life hoping others might follow their example. I agree there is no point in trying to steer them away from their beliefs and I see no point in trying to. They do no harm and a lot of good. By the way I would class myself as an atheist (perhaps with a touch of agnosticism) married to a Christian woman. Although I don't attend church I am welcomed by the membership and join in much of the social side and most of my friends would class themselves as Christian. They don't try to change me and I don't try to change them. I believe in toleration and so do they! Perhaps it's different in the US? -

Whether there is some point to existence is, I feel immaterial. We are here from birth to death whether we like it or not. Taking knocks and sorrows we must do and suffer. However that shouldn't prevent us enjoying the many pleasures life offers and appreciating abstract things like beauty. Life is a balancing act between these extremes. Accept this and enjoy what is there to enjoy. -
Water injection is well known method of increasing power or decreasing fuel consumption for the same amount of fuel. http://en.wikipedia....ction_(engines) Sorry about the unreadable attachment (Which comes from the link and confirms fuel economy is possible)

I think you are asking a complicated question involving many variables - I can't put a sensible estimate to the end result, but you might like to follow the link which suggests adding oxygen to a practical engine is unlikely to be beneficial. http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/eng99/eng99567.htm

There is one detail you need to bring into your calculations. All the electricity you use for electrolysis will have to come from the car's alternator. The more electricity you use, the harder it will be to spin the alternator and so the more fuel the engine must burn to produce power to spin the alternator. I'm not at all good with maths, but I suspect that the overall effect may not be beneficial - I'll be interested to see what other, more qualified people, make of your idea.

Lie back, close your eyes, relax, perhaps remember childhood and let this heal you. (But please don't put an adult interpretation on some of the lines)

Now that is really nice - I wonder what the heck #146 was all about!

This is something I put on the home page yesterday. Can we possibly be talking about the same people? "If you do detect a little sarcasm (from my post) please accept that it is a) gentle, and b)usually aimed at myself in some way. For example in this case I am well aware that my frankness, impulsiveness and sense of humour may lead some people to wonder if I am "quite right in the head department"! I'm just happy to be given the opportunity to "mix it" with young, vibrant, intelligent people."

But as that embryo formed was not a set of eggs formed with, and part of, it? Also, did not that embryo form from an egg? (even if the egg was laid by another species? (nobody asked what came first the chicken or the chicken egg).

People who have recently been exposed to severe, even fatal, doses of radiation are those dealing with nuclear disasters such as has happened in Japan and Russia.

I don't know if chickens are the same as humans in this respect - but I think female human babies come with their full complement of eggs. So in the case of humans (and perhaps chickens) its a dead heat! later edit : just done a quick "google" and it seems I'm right - chicken chicks are (in this respect) the same as human baby girls.

Calculate Unique Value for any English Word
Joatmon replied to Camille Thomas Barkho's topic in Computer Science
If you are wanting to match similar sounding words I wonder if the software associated with turning the spoken word into the written word could be adapted? I am thinking of the software that produces subtitles on live programs. It certainly often prints similar sounding words by mistake. (Often with hilarious results!) -

I see that Venus was showing it's greatest brilliance on April 30th . That would place it in a position apparently very close to the sun as seen from earth.(superior conjunction). I wonder if that was what the camera could discern but what you couldn't because of the sun's brightness? Venus, although not a star, shines more brightly than a star. http://www.absoluteaxarquia.com/nightsky/venus.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspects_of_Venus

If your experiences bother you you could try what I do. I have a radio which can be timed to switch off after a set period. I set it to give me half an hour of a mainly music program. I start to listen and think about the music, but find I usually drop off quite happily before the half hour is out.

I thought to myself if this has a chance to work then it would also work with boats ( although presenting more water resistance because of the hull). I soon found that there is presently quite a lot of interest in doing this and also some claims that it can be more efficient than a traditional sail. Just google - kite driven boat-.
