I write poetry and sing, and I love people close to me. I have empathy, but to me it isn't a weakness, it allows me to use all sorts of machavellian tricks like reverse psychology and poker faces, I can even cry spotaneously if I want, I bet I could fool your empathic ability.

I never used it, but alot of people seem to get to the same state of consciousness using meditation. My ability to dissociate comes from the realisation that my mind is just a reflection of the environmental stimuli it is experiencing. I have learnt to seperate each stimuli into categories and then "pidgeon hole" them so I can understand exactly what individual effect they are having at anyone time. My approach is not perfect however, extreme emotions like rage can break me and I let go to my irrational(perhaps more human&animal) self. Alcohol also makes me lose control. I sometimes let go on purpose, especially when a loved one is feeling bad. I do this so I can empathise with them and make them see I really care and want to share their pain. Total control of your mind is an awesome thing, you should try lucid dreaming, you won't want to wake up.

I have my brain under total control, even physical pain is bearable with this. Its hard to teach, but once its learnt its like breaking free from reality.

Nothing favoured nothing gained, it seems that height had no selective advantage in east asia, combined with malnutrition and lack of hybrid vigor this will lead to a population whos height isn't selected for. In other populations (europe) height was a factor in sexual selection, with taller males being more desirable, and also asia minor was a source of influx of new genes giving hybrid vigor. In east asia height wasn't a sexual selection trait because women were culturally submissive to men and therefore had very little say in mate selection, although they were submissive to men in europe, it was to a lesser extent. I am not sure how much of this post is true, I would back it up with papers if I could be fux, but I am drunk and have low motivation because I also smoke pot (apparently).

I just wore my retainer all the time, unless I was eating or playing sport.

Hmmmm I guess, perhaps its only english that is confusing though. Maybe the original poster called it a photon atom because he had read a photon was the smallest particle.
-
ok, well if atomos (greek right?) is the most basic level, why have sub-atomic then, why not make sub-atomic, atomic, and make atoms macro particles.
-
ah my bad, need me glasses 8-)
-
But isnt it also an atom. Like a lithium ion is an atom?
-
What about a hydrogen ion??

Perhaps a way around the immortal dictator scenario would be altruistic anarchy or utopian communism, but hey you are correct, very few people are as egalatarian as that, perhaps wisdomed gained through immortality could show them the "light".

Hmmm some must be inbuilt though, I dont think babies learn how to make sounds like goo and ga and ma and pa, they just do make them.

interesting: In plants (and cultured insect cells), RNAi also has a role in antiviral defense, in which viral dsRNAs are targeted for destruction by the RNAi machinery.
-
Thx Blue, I'll read up on those, modern genetics and biotechnology fascinates me.

Could RNA polymerase catalyse the creation of its own mRNA? Providing there was tRNA, nucleotides and energy available?
-
Hi David, I would love to work on something like this, Im having such a hard time finding a job in science here in NZ...... Anyway, to further the idea, the protein sequence would bind to tRNA which is carrying a mRNA codon, this would then be bound to a neighbouring mRNA codon held to the coresponding tRNA and the amino acid on the protein. To do this a ribosome or something similar could hold the mRNA codon in place, while RNA polymerase joined the 3' and 5' ends. The resulting mRNA sequence would then be reverse transcribed by reverse transcriptase to produce DNA sequences lacking introns and not all identical since there are several codons for one amino acid.
