It seems high school may have simplified their teaching but you have learnt interesting things. Thanks for all the information guys

so the tips of diamond are an alcohol? This brought to my mind aluminum. Aluminium forms a layer of Al oxide so your idea makes sense to me.
-
That makes sense pantheory. So after you do the math with the ultra red galaxies, the result is that they are older than the universe (to our knowledge), correct?
-
So what you are saying is that the number of atoms with imperfections on the surface are basically cancelled out by the sheer number of perfect atoms within the crystal and therefor the imperfections are negligible. This makes perfect sense to me and is made all the more understandable by your example. Yes that was another of the structure i was thinking of. I think the greatest problem would be at the points of the structure where there is only 1 bond. Surely though, the same principals would apply, the number of carbons withing the structure and so electron density is greater within the structure, meaning that the free electrons are less likely to have an effect?

Very interesting. But, i don't really understand how these galaxies disprove the BB theory. Why is it that we should not be able to see these galaxies? I look forward to new discoveries even if they disprove my beliefs, so I too look forward to this.

I was just revising and came across the giant ionic structure, the cube. Well i was thinking, the face of the cube would have charges on it wouldn't it? For example NaCl. The crystal coordination number is 6:6 so 6 Cl's should surround a Na atom and visa versa. Well, at the face of the structure there can not be 6 Cl's surrounding an Na atom and then 6 Na's surrounding those Cl atoms. It would be endless right? The Cl in the centre of all faces only has 5 Na atoms surrounding it. The Na in the centre edge has 4 Cl's surrounding it. Why is this?

Also known as the big bounce. It is basically a periodic expansion and collapse of the universe. The uninverse expands (like now) then collapses (in the future). All that matter crammed into a single point will cause Big Bang number 2. BUT. If there can be another BB after us, what says there wasn't a BB before us? Maybe millions of BB's and so millions of different universes where millions of scenarious have been played out? In one universe, there could be no life at all, in another you were actually a frog and another you were born on the 12th of december 1023 not 12th december 1954. You see, all possabilties may have happened or will eventually happen. (according to this theory) That is a fair statment as no theory is correct at the moment and so you may believe as you see fit. Though may I ask, what do you think that the major flaw of the BB model is?

Its very interesting I must say. I will keep any eye out for dark energy/matter in other science topics/discoveries.

A very detailed and plausable idea dabz. I like it, but, once a balloon/ball has too much pressure inside it, it explodes. If our universe is a ball and the pressure is increasing as the universe expands then it looks like we are inside the biggest balloon/ball ever that is about to explode. Oh Dear! Still a very nice theory. GiGo.

but what is dark energy "theoretically"? I mean what properties does it have that would cause expantion to speed up? Could it be some kind of anti-gravity force, repelling heavier bodies like that of similar magnetic poles, which is causing it to speed up?
-
I can get these. And i have already seen guides on how to make sodium accetate from these ingredients but the end results are not perfect thays all. Have you don this experiment?
-
One problem with the big bang is that the expantion of the universe is speeding up. If you look at any explosion, big or small the rate of expansion of the blast dicreases with time, but our universe's expansion is speeding up. This in my eyes, tells me that it can't be as simple as a bang. I know that people now say that this is due to dark matter but so far this has not been proven. A part of me doubts that we will even find out how the universe began because the mathamatics and physics of everything brakes down when we reach the start of the universe. Everything is just too close together and too, well, weird.

No problem mate. Thanks anyway

Still not fixed guys and im out of ideas. Any help?
-
Ye i now it's a tricky one and i agree that we do not know enough to have an even 90% sure theory but its an interesting topic. But i dont think we have for more to go before we get to 95% sure. JohnSU I agree with you but i think expantion theory may hold the clue to what was beofre the big bang. Another Universe.

Ah no worries mate. I've also contacted my tower manufacturer so hopefully they can also give me help. I cant think what else it could be coz the cable and monitor work so it must be the tower.
-
Didn't work. problem is still not solved
-
Thank you for the link i will try it out asap and report back with the results. Will be tomorrow so fingers crossed. It isn't the cable for sure. thanks
-
I am just wondering what everybody thinks happened at the start of the universe. A big question with many different theories. I'm curious to see the most common belief and the most unusual. Links are appreciated. So how do you think it all started? Personally, i believe in the expansion theory.

Thanks for the reply. My dvi cable looks like the DL-DVI-D cable. What does this mean?
-
Where is the best place to buy this chemical (cheap and quality)? Also where do you buy your chemicals?
-
no other screen is attached. I have tried the on and off fix does not work. I have also tried using another monitor to see if it is detected in control panel but it isn't.
-
I have a HDMI to DVI cable to play ps3 on my monitor which works great. When i come to using it on my tower to my monitor with hdmi in tower and dvi in monitor it goes weird. The boot loader appears on screen as usual but when i boot into windows or ubuntu the monitor goes black and it looks like it recieves no signal. I know its random but i need help. Anybody?
-
Well I have always had a fasination chemistry and how it works and believe me I have many many questions that i will be asking. To start with I have been reading through this awsome forum and decided to ask. What is the best reaction/s to do at home? I have limited equiptment so please ber this in mind. Basically I am starting home experiments and would like some fun simple ones to do at home. Thanks in advance.
