dude... i've ordered countless lbs of aluminum powder online at http://www.skylighter.com ...and surprisingly..its pretty easy to get. however, if you plan on making m-80's and such with it, you'll have to purchase the tubes seperately or make your own. because they wont sell potassium perchlorate+aluminum powder+tubes and plugs in the same order or to the same address.
-
is that the stuff they tell you to dissolve in water, then dip a dry piece of wood in it and let it soak for like...an hour...then let it dry and light it up?
-
potassium perchlorate works awesome as well, but i have no idea about the ratios with that as the oxidizer. mostly its used in solid rocket fuels. i think NASA used it on the booster stages for the shuttle.

exactly, at one of bush's speaches they handed out purple hearts with bandaids...WTF...i want to hear sean hannity say how good of an american john kerry is. the reason that kerry has to keep coming with his war record is because the "swift boat vets for truth" keep making up lies. now, bush says that he thinks kerry served honorably, but yet, he hasn't come out to denounce the 255 vets who werent even serving with kerry where they are making things up about. seriously, i think only one of those 255 vets for truth served with kerry. EVER. and kerry has 7 veterins on his side, who ACTUALLY served with him. oh, and then there's ollie north. you want to talk about a piece of crap, oliver north is the biggest liar i've ever seen in my life. im sure that he would be the first to start clammoring about someone diminishing his general status(because there have been plenty of generals, its not really a special thing, he didnt have to do much to get that ranking) but he comes out of the woodwork(which he never served with kerry either, he was on the river where kerry got one of his purple hearts in ONE battle with kerry) he said that kerry go his by friendly fire, and it wasnt that bad, and that no shots had been fired and there was no enemy...HAH, good job ollie north, even though after that battle your boat had bullet holes in it. idiot. typical GOP liar.

exactly, between outsourcing millions of jobs, turning a 300 billion dollar surplus into a 200 billion dollar deficit, spending upwards of nearly 200 billion dollars for a country that doesnt want to be free, and giving huge tax breaks to people who dont pay taxes...i'd say bush has done a superior job...lol.

yeah, sure john, except all the radiation sickness that soon after ensues. a terrorist has absolutely no chance of getting a weapon in america that is more powerful or has a higher rate of fire than he could acquire in a foreign country. not only that, but look at the statistics of gun crime, australia, before the outlawed guns, there were a considerable amount of gun deaths, but after they outlawed them...THERE WERE MORE!! same in England. same in washington DC, same in any other place that outlaws guns. who needs a 50 caliber gun...well...thats not a question that gun owners should have to answer...it strikes their fancy, its a free country, so it really shouldnt matter...would you sacrafice freedom just so that people like sarah brady and dianne feinstein can tell you how to be safe? i hate all this banning of stuff. its moronic, we as a populace are no longer allowed to enjoy ourselves, because anything slightly dangerous is banned...pretty soon everyone who likes to play around with chemicals will no longer be able to buy simple sulfur. its already extremely difficult to buy KNO3 anymore. if too much gets banned, then we wont have any purpose to live...hell, TV will be banned for our own safety. i think that the PEOPLE of the US should be able to assess the risk of something, and determine if they want to take part in that something. but by outlawing something, that just grows our curiousness, and so we will find a way to take part in whatever it is. just to experience it. if i dont want to wear my seatbelt, damnit, i shouldnt have to. but now i can be fined like..100 bucks. because i had disregard for my OWN safety...it does no harm to others by not wearing MY seatbelt. we are no longer left up to make decisions, they are all being made for us. and we as a country are humbly obeying.
-
damn, KNO3.com is EXPENSIVE. you UK guys overpay. http://www.skylighter.com is way cheap...
-
75:15:10 with JUST charcoal will be a lot sweeter than any sugar comp. especially if you can get it really fine, most KNO3 doesnt come too fine. get a rock tumbler and throw in a dozen marbles, that works great. leave that on for a couple hours...the finer the powder, the better the blaze. dont expect to make some really explosive powder though, the mix ratio for that is like...molecular precision. 67:23:10 works in my rockets with sugar. but burned pine cones are a ton better.

better in terms of what?

pulkit, what university do you attend?

honestly, its not like UBER rich people actually pay taxes anyway. its just the opposite...the government is actually paying THEM back. so, in reality, WE are paying for THEIR lower tax rate, that THEY dont need because most of them are making a ton of money from the government...its called government bonds...they buy 5 million dollar bonds...then they get 5.5 million back...thats 500,000 dollars that the government pays back over say, 5 years. thats 100,000 dollars a year, to someone who does not need the money, to someone who is just playing the system...but, here's the kicker, the great thing about government bonds is, THEY ARE WRITEOFFS. so if i donate 5 million dollars of mine to the government, i cannot be taxed on that money. and for super rich people, 5 million dollars is chump change. so in reality, a lot of middle-lower income families tax dollars dont go to fund their childs education, or their public transportation, or their schools, its going directly into the pockets of the elite rich people...the people who need it least...so when these people go and donate a couple hundred grand to a charity...wow, they look good, but they just got that money for free...i vote not to give the rich more money...

exactly my dilemma...who wants to try to throw something at 2,000 degrees into a vat of fuel...? not me!! especially if its burning as its flying through the air!!
-
thats ok...i dont think i'll be wanting to "catch" molten balls of cesium in my hand and quickly transfer them to a stable atmosphere. i want cesium so that i can mess around with it, check out some of its reactions with different elements. not to melt it in my hand... i've read that electric prongs used in electrolysis(usually carbon) attract the elements in the crystal, or molten lava. lol. i definately dont want to chance catching a ball of cesium at well over 800C coming for my nostral. lol.

honestly, if jerry seinfeld wants a ferrari, or a 40 million dollar boat...he is going to buy it...taxes to him are inconsequential. and the funny thing is, there are SO many people more wealthy than him...oprah does good things with her money, but still, handing out 100 grand would be no problem for me if i was a multi billionare. more of that money has to be put back into the system. with tax money, the government funds state budgets, and states enlist workers for all professions, teachers, contractors..etc...

i just bought linus paulings book "general chemistry" man...its informative...lol. to say the least.
-
actually, KNO3 can be purchased at any brooks pharmacy. in 6oz containers. so can flowers of sulfur...lawn and garden centers no longer carry 10lb bags of the stuff though. lol. make sure your beaker doesnt directly contact that hot plate, use some veggie oil in between, so you get even heating.

i want to know how to safely extract cesium from cesium chloride. first of all, i need to know just how dangerous chlorine gas is...second of all, i know that sodium melts at 801C, what temp does cesium take? third of all, for electrolysis i will be using a 12V car battery and two steel prongs. i need to know, what type of container is used to conduct this experiment in? also, i know that cesium reacts with air, and burns, so i am hesitant to use deisel fuel, are there any other solutions that cesium will not react with? i've heard vinegar works, not sure though. also, people have told me that the cesium just pops out, like little silver fireworks, is this true? i've read in books that the cesium goes toward one of the prongs and the same with the chlorine. if this is true, then it wouldn't be difficult to get the cesium into a stable environment, but if its false, basically i just have to hope that molten cesium doesnt contact my skin, and that the molten cesium can land in the stable solution...lol, all input is appreciated

no chem supply store will carry 100%? lol...
-
i understand, but i would have to buy "hydrogen peroxide" from a supermarket or something so that i could retrieve a more potent solution.
-
so basically i'd have to extract that h2o2 from the water...hmm...are there any other safe ways of making such a potent acid? also, why would it be so diluted? i imagine that that addition of h2o would make the acid stronger, feeding off of the additional hydrogen...?

laughing gas is an overexaggeration...i've breathed it in and it wasnt that bad, (ps, for safetys sake, dont breath it in direct from the bottle...your lips would freeze to the nozzle and your lungs would freeze as well....instead, fill a balloon about half way and allow it to warm up, then breath it in.... i took into consideration the heating of o2 under compression, thats why i only filled it to 1000psi in an 1800psi tank. the tank needs to be modified in order for it to spray both fluid and o2, for this you will need airsmithing tools. two copper or aluminum tubes, and some JB weld. plus all the required fittings, which arent easy or cheap to find, especially the one from the tank to the disconnect. unfortunately, i have no idea where to find one, this fitting came from a machine shop that my dad had reposessed. probably attainable from a good airsmith. anyway, you need one pipe on the inside of the tank to go all the way to the bottom, and one to go half an inch from the top, then they both get arc welded to the nozzle fitting, this way, the rocket motor will function in both upright and up-side-down positions. i used washers for the nozzles and i didnt ignite the mix until after it had passed through the nozzle, that way(i figured) it wouldnt back-up into the tank. though it ended up happening anyway. if i made a liquid rocket again, it wouldnt be as jerry rigged, and it would probably have two seperate tanks...and i would definately use something better than starter fluid. cap'n, spray paint is nothing, i've kept a can of WD-40 burning for over a minute at a time...WD-40 burns nice and slow, but it keeps going....only problem is start low, because fire rises and once it starts raising the flame up...you can't keep it down.
-
what would happen if you took hydrogen peroxide3%+h2o97% and added it to sulfuric acid? i imagine it would make it one boheemoth acid, but i am not sure ow acid reacts with water...my experience with acid is limited..

ah yes, the famous...NOS!! thats the funny thing about n2o, a lot of morons with cars tell me how they're going to run their car on nitrous alone...well, thats all well and good, except, n2o wont combust without some sort of fuel...and the sole purpose for it in a car is to add more oxygen molecules per sq. inch. this in turn leans out the A/F mixture and allows for a larger explosion. i wouldnt try n2o in a rocket, i have no way to store it, and the 10lb bottles that i buy...i'd need to make one HUGE rocket to lift that puppy up. i used starter fluid and compressed O2 for my liquid rocket....i filled a 4oz paintball tank with both starter fluid and o2, to about 900psi. then i attached a quick disconnect airhose piece to it with a butterfly valve and a high torque servo. ignition was with two speaker wires to a 12V car battery, unfortunately this 4oz tank wouldnt fit on my scale, so i stuck it into a bag of sand, then i let her rip, i used 3 washers for the nozzle...after it lit, it stayed on for about 1/2-3/4 of a second, then KABOOM. the whole back end of the airtank blew open. i bet that puppy had some force though...possibly in the 30lb range...

rocket motors in general, use slow burning powder. in a pipe bomb, it is preferrable to have pure black powder and only fill the pipe halfway, that way there's a better air to propellent ratio. this is the reason for the core of a rocket. without the core, then your motor will burn like a road flare, unless your nozzle is REALLY small, and even then, it wont have a lot of power. the bigger the core, the more thrust but the less duration. the smaller the core, the less thrust, the longer duration. aerotech i think makes an F class motor that puts up decent thrust numbers, but it burns for 8 seconds! thats a lot better for a really light rocket that will continue to accellerate to a blazing fast speed. but a heavier rocket wont go as high as if it had half the duration but twice the impulse. its really weird how it works.
