    A Fun Thing

Perpetual motion relies on 100% energy conservation, which isn't possible if there is any friction. As more and more energy becomes unavailable the motion will gradually slow down. In this case, some of the mechanical work is converted into thermal energy due to friction. In this process, available energy for mechanical work is lost (entropy increases), as it is impossible to convert thermal energy to mechanical work in a 1:1 ratio as described by the second law of thermodynamics.
  2. I voted "Other" since burning pine tables counts as biofuel right? Other than that I can't really decide between nuclear and solar, since ultimately solar energy is just harnessing a natural nuclear reactor (especially in the case of superstructures like Dyson rings).

  4. Eunuchs are males who have been castrated, meaning that they've lost their testes entirely or their testes simply don't function anymore. In medical terms, they have had their balls removed/knackers taken away/family jewels snipped off/nutsack chopped etc. One could even playfully say that the palm is there but the coconuts are gone or that they've got the meat for a sub but the olives are missing.
  5. Blatant advertising (on topic though!): A Finnish industrial/electronic music compilation was released recently, featuring many Finnish artists such as yours truly. Pretty good stuff and most importantly it's free. You can download it here.
  6. There had been suspicions, and eventually it was confirmed by Sky TV: http://www.badscience.net/2006/07/brainiac-fake-experiments-scandal-make-it-to-the-evening-standard/

    Music ;D

Eegh, Linkin Park. As a person who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder I'm slightly offended by that. I do like the instrumental songs though. Bach is OK. Actually I've been trying to combine classical music with breakcore for a while, although that has been explored somewhat already by Venetian Snares etc. Though that's pretty standard seeing how I've also mixed ambient with speedcore, hard trance and chiptunes.
  8. Russia has an awesome anthem, Germany's anthem isn't that bad either. Finland's national anthem is OK, but Finlandia (or , which is a stand-alone piece cut from the longer symphony) is so much better. Since the current anthem isn't even officially recognized I wish they'd change it to Finlandia.
  9. Some stores also sell pellets of solid FeCl3. I still have a 500g bag I once bought.
  10. Welcome! May you spread mayhem everywhere you go for many years to come. Always nice to see someone with electonics knowledge here who's actually trying to come up with something cool instead of antigravity technology or water-powered cars.
  11. I'd come up with some malevolent scheme to bombard continents I don't like from my moon fortress. You know, the normal evil overlord stuff. I'd try to be a reasonably successful evil overlord, by mastering the ultimate evil overlord guidelines.
  12. Finnish and English, and some Swedish. My Swedish vocabulary has decayed pretty badly over the years but I can still understand it pretty well and know quite a few common phrases. For example "Kan jag ha en kokosboll?" means "Can I have a coconut ball?", but I won't be using that one too often since I don't like coconuts.

  14. I agree with YT on the sensitivity, I'm pretty sure even sweat from your hands can set it off. You shouldn't bother making FeCl3 though unless you really want to, as you can get it from electronics stores (used for circuit board etching), IIRC it isn't too expensive.
  15. As evidenced by the last few quotes the richness of the conversation at #sfn is truly incredible. So join #sfn. OR DIE (by natural causes, someday).
  16. Hmm, almost forgot Haiku thread still going strong Haiku for teh win!11
  17. Hail Xenu!
  18. Ah indeed, as there's a whole bunch of other people who want the world to end. And Christians aren't even the worst of them.
  19. How can you lose weight if you constantly get "the munchies"?
  20. Might be a hormone rather than an enzyme? Although the only hormones I can associate with anger are adrenaline and noradrenaline, which aren't likely candidates. Of course, anger can sometimes make people think irrationally but I'd imagine it's hard to test whether it significantly reduces IQ and what specific biochemical effect is behind it. "I just burned your house down and wrecked your car. Here, do an IQ test."
  21. New MMOs are, almost without exception, buggy and severely lacking in content when they launch. So it might be a good idea to wait. Perhaps they'll nerf the goddamn assassins and rangers too.

    New Sport

It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Or lands groin first on a handrail, rolls down five sets of stairs, breaks their ribcage on a ledge and falls five stories to the ground, resulting in a nasty case of displaced ankles and death.
  23. "Honk if the Schrödinger cat is alive" "Warning! Light reflected from this bumper sticker travels at nearly 300,000,000m/s!" "I don't street race anymore - the Unruh effect melted my last car"
  24. ...until someone decides the Mayans could've been off by a 5 year margin and builds a cult around it. There will always be people who desperately want the world to end. (I.e. Christians)

I could go for some countrygore, or grindcountry.
