  1. I'm starting to think I'd like to see some statistics that state the percentual amount of Star Trek watching physicists among all physicists. )
  2. "if you don't have that you can't find the answer" That was quite obvious, now wasn't it. ) Of course, if you knew the individual atom masses and... Hmm...
  3. Gilded

    pH

    Argh, an immortal Danish test-poster.
  4. Hey, by the way... "= [1/sqrt(1 - beta^2) - 1]mc^2 Now it is this thing which, for low beta, is approximately equal to (1/2)beta^2" I just realized that I didn't quite get that part... OK I'll have a shot at it. Mass = 1kg, velocity = 1m/s (for beta^2 I got about 1,111111111^-17) Just to annoy swansont, eventually I got 0,50000000000004000277777777777822. Ek = 0.5*1*1 = 0.5 So the approximate is wrong about 0,04 picojoules. Yay. )
  5. And I'm not even registered. A strong "aye" for the summarisation process from me.
  6. "I wonder if I should go to work today... I can't control my body and don't know where's the door anymore, so I guess not." "Whoah, 57 workers didn't show up today. Yeah, they were stoned." And personally, I think smoking has decreased the average lifetime of man already more than a necessary amount, adding up free use of even more deadly and addictive substances is not cool. "Yeah I'll just try heroin once. Or twice... Or for a week, or perhaps a month. But then I'll stop!" And prescriptions won't help; do you really think that if you're allowed 1g of cocaine a week you won't get addicted? Yeah, perhaps you won't (although I doubt even that,) but a couple of million other people will. And if it's legal with prescriptions, I find it hard to believe that people wouldn't buy some from their friends/contacts who also got a "prescription". Allowing use of any drug-like substance one wants would really do a favor to the gene pool though, so perhaps people should just go for it! Yay for Darwinism!
  7. Name it plumbucalciwhateverite. That should piss geologists off. I bet Ophiolite is looking for his axe and shovel already. )
  8. Hmmh. I have no idea what that equation means, but if you had a block made of nuclei that emit about 0.5 MeV photons when they decay, a matter creation event could take place inside such block?
  9. "Nothing is wrong with him....He just turned 15 1/2 and I'm going to 17 next month....." Some of us turn 17 in April. *hint hint* Just kidding of course, if you like the boy and he likes you then that's pretty much all there is to it. And for the old folk, I've always thought that old people are merely young people who have lived long. ) "it's easy to say love makes the world go 'round, but I think an even more powerful force is gratitude." Oh bugger. I've been told the world goes around (it's axis that is) because of the fact that our Solar system was a spinning disc of matter, thereby making the objects formed from the cloud rotate too, and because of the rather non-existant friction in space that allows it to keep going.
  10. I've gotten a nice combo of 403 + 404. I can't see how a page/document can be forbidden if it's not even found in the first place. ) And I've been getting this for a couple of weeks or so.
  11. The United Nuclear lead sheet seems nice. However, it's the only place I've seen that sells it and I can't be arsed to order just some lead sheet from U.S. due to phenomenal posting costs. My ore sample gives about 0.21mSv through the thin-walled steel safe-thingie I keep it in at close range, so it's not too much trouble but if I'm going to have radium/promethium watch dials, pure forms of both uranium and thorium, perhaps even technetium or polonium (those are nasty buggers to acquire), I'm really, really going to need some lead sheet or plating. )
  12. But digit carrying is so fun. The final approximation is rather silly though, but at least it doesn't have the decimal part. )
  13. Gongratulations! I have collected gemstones/semi-precious gems/minerals for some while (I think I was interested in them at the age of 5 ) ), and it's always great to see a new mineral getting discovered. Especially if it A) Has an unusual structure B) Looks nice C) Contains unusual elements, especially uranium. Lead is fine too. :>
  14. David Hahn's parents were OK with stuff too... until he endangered the health of about 30 000 people. ) Anyway, I have very limited access to chemicals but if I was going to buy some I'd probably tell about it. Luckily, even though they both work/worked at the university, they have very limited knowledge about chemicals. ) "Hi mom, today I'm going to make RDX!" "*silence, weird look* Uh-huh, that's great honey!"
  15. Ahh, so the screwup was in the classical one. Apparently, I forgot the press the "=" button, resulting into having an answer equal to 150 000 000^2. ) Remember kids, maths and late hours are a bad combination.
  16. "who wants to program 'SFN the game'?" Lol. :> I can control a variable or two, C++ is too freaking awful, I know some Flash actionscripting though, but not enough to make a game. ) I could however, make an animation where for example Sayo tries to take over the world by using a subliminal message in his posts that tells you to donate money to him, but that would be just silly. And anyway, now I got to go and donate some money... Yes, all my money. Huh? I mean, do my homework. Yeah, that's right.
  17. OK, I think I got the most of it... So... If a 1g particle is going at 0.5c (so I can use the 1/2 for v/c ) )... The mass is in kg, right? And c is m/s? [1/sqrt(1 - 1/2^2) - 1]0.001*300 000 000^2 [1/0,8660... - 1]0.001*300 000 000^2 0,15470...*0.001*300 000 000^2 = approx. 13923048454133 So the particle has about 13.9230 terajoules of kinetic energy. But is this the amount of energy needed to accelerate the particle to 1/2c? Wasn't there a different formula for that? Damn, these are getting complicated. ) With the 1/2mv^2 I got 22500 terajoules. Wtf. I think I can smell a miscalculation in the relativistic calculation...
  18. Checks eh? ... Now I can only wonder why my room isn't filled with uranium ore as I could've paid with a goddamn check for most auctions. Although, some auctions don't have the money check-option and all fun chemicals are in United States.
  19. Hmmh? How did you pay for it if you're 15? I have no means of paying on eBay until I'm 18 (Visa), except for cash but a) it's an unsafe method of money transaction b) most auctions don't even have the option.
  20. Or perhaps methanol was more of an Estonia-problem... I recall there being about 10 deaths a week at one point because of methanol poisoning. Anyhow, YT will soon come and smack us with a chili bowl if we don't get back on topic (whatever it might be, I'm clueless )
  21. Hey bud, you know what's even better? They sell aluminum powder and KNO3 (for example) to under 18-year olds. Responsibility to the max. )
  22. Hmmh, I don't know why I even had to put the (aq) in there. ) Of course, I didn't meant dissolved in water but similar to water (by being a liquid).
  23. "As much as i know seeds from fresh fruits never contain cyanides but i have heard of one cyanide poisoning case in former russia." Former Russia? You mean Soviet Union? Or an area that separated from the commies when Soviet Union fell? Anyhow, Russians tend to drink much, that's for sure. And there have been so many similar cases (involving methanol and compounds like cyanide that are rather unhealthy to consume).
  24. "Potatoe flour, why would that ionize?" Eh? I just mentioned my friend sold it for good money.
  25. Heeeyy... Didn't YT ask the very same question some time ago?
