Over 90 000 dead already... Due to lack of proper communications, as JohnB mentioned, the estimated amount is about 100 000. And then all the diseases... *sigh*
-
Good to see you have proper dosimeters. My dad used to have those too when he did PET-research.

"Uh...the Stone Cutters?" You got that right. http://www.netowne.com/conspiracy/konformist/wedo.htm

Well gee 5614 I'm awfully sorry for the double... err, wording. The first "know" should've been a "don't". But I was tired, again. I must now, however, go and bang my head against the wall as a punishment. "I'm waiting Gilded's response with interest." Bah. About the "eduskunta", it's just noicy, evil people shouting out their opinions that nobody cares about. :> And sorry about the amphetamine comment, I just suddenly felt the need to be a moron.

Oh dear! Weren't you the one who lives in the Maldives, benzex? The tsunami must have caused floods and major destruction there. I recall at least 55 people being killed, hopefully none of your friends or relatives?

"Then I realized that he'd be forced to stay home for a good long while." Yeah, here it's a max of 100mSv divided in a period of five years, and 50mSv is the max for one single year. I recall it being quite a similar amount in every country where these levels are even supervised.

"I play the accordion..." Call 0800-IPLAYTHEACCORDION for crisis help. ----- Now that it's almost New Year's Eve and the world needs to be happy even duringn sad times, here's some jokes: --- When can you tell that a Finnish man has had enough alcohol? -If he starts smoking when wounded, he catches on fire. --- What's a Finnish man's Cooper's test? -12 minutes without alcohol. --- What's a Finnish man's 7 course meal? -A sixpack of beer and a bottle of vodka --- A Swedish man walks down the street shouting "The King is insane, the King is insane!" The police takes him to the jail. Soon, the man's friend comes to see him. -So, did they tell you about your punishment? -Yeah, five years and five days. -What?! That's awfully much. -No it isn't: Five days for infamation and five years for revealing one of the government's highly classified secrets! --- Two Swedish police officers are driving away from Stockholm with two nuclear bombs in the trunk, that have not been defused yet. Soon the other one says: "But what if one of the bombs explodes?" The other one replies: "Well, we'll just tell the chief we found only one." Edit: More of Gilded's and Phi for All's comical adventures: -I once knew a real man, a guy who had a girl for every finger! Gilded says. -Wow, was he famous or something? Phi for All asks. -No, he was an amateur pyrotechnician, Gilded replies.

The moral of the story: Play Descent or other shooting games - they make you feel gooood. "[edit] or dave?!?" Yeah, I certainly hope dave is not the cookie monster. Although, I wonder how much money you get for starring in Sesame Street.

Oh dear, pseudowackiness. Well, I guessed the 26th earthquake day right, so I must possess psychic foreseeing gifts. Whooppedoodle. Might as well guess that the San Andreas Fault will cause a 8.5 Richter quake on the 2nd of February 2005, in California, at about 17:35. And if I get that one right, I'm off to buy some lottery tickets.

If you want to practice posting in correct context, be sure to identify and equally take all the medicine that you actually need, not the ones that say "amphetamine".

"Besides, a Bq is a dps, so it's pretty boring and useless." But it impresses people more when you say "freaking 37 gigabecquerels!" than "1 curie". "I did get mixed up with the whole Sievert vs REM thing, but avoided it mainly by staying away from the hot spots when I was at TRIUMF. Zero dose is zero dose, no matter what the scale..." You're quite right about that. Did you have the simple... err, things that become darker when they get ionized, eventually becoming black and telling you you're not going to do any work around ionizing radiation for a while?

Yum. That sounds CO2-sublimicious. Edit: Btw, do you have different words in the English language for going straight from gas to solid and going straight from solid to gas, or is it just "sublimation" in both cases?
-
Wow, that looks awesome. I had no idea that this could even be done. ) Although I should have, as my mom works in the genetics "department" of a local university.
-
"-78.5 C" Hmmm... What was the low temperature record in nature (on Earth)? -71? Or below the sublimation point?

"E. coli have a natural affinity for plastic. Shouldn't they attach themselves to the plates, without any other substrate?" Let's not jump into rash conclusions here. For example, Michael Jackson seems to have a natural affinity for plastic too, yet he doesn't keep a plastic plate on his face (although I think he should).

"yt, isnt that a terrible waste of rp?" Well it surely sounds better than putting iodine and rp in your front pocket. )
-
"So it'll be a while - 300 years under the ideal conditions I described." Somehow I thought it was going to take a while. ) Even with good cyclotrons, creating a gram of, let's say, gold is not an easy task (as I said). Btw swansont, do even physicists in the U.S. still use curies in experiment calculations? Do they even encourage you to use Bq?

Lincoln-Douglas Debate
Gilded replied to MolecularMan14's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
"Have to see what the admins and mods think of it" Looking at the replies to your original post, they don't seem to think of it at all. ) -
"It's easy, and bad game making, to make something that relies on a linear sequence of shocks." I hope Call of Cthulhu isn't going to be like that.
-
A sad event indeed, even for countries no where near the area. I recall there being tourists of over 50 nationalities were in the most severely damaged zones.
-
Oh bugger! 5614 goes nitpicking. )

"you`re trippin` if you think DNA`s of little importance/significance." It's important but of course, DNA is only one example of a structure that's involved in reproduction, growing and creating offspring. Although, it's quite right the only example we know of. )

"I heard a withnes say that just before it the sea pulled back for about 500meter" Yeah, depends a lot on the coast though. A Finnish tourist said the water came stopped right at their front door, and she was 300m away from the coast.

Hey by the way, do you happen to know how much for example the Chernobyl region measures these days? Also, it would be interesting to see how much background radiation increases when in an airplane 10km above the ground.
