Does anyone have any recommendations for books or articles on black holes? I'd really love some ideas, thanx guys

I know I'm jsut saying it's still a good distance from us but in retrospect were very close, does that make sense?

So a new goldilocks planet has been discovered 20 light years away from us! Pretty exciting right? Scientists believe it might be able to sustain human life! but a few major problems stand before us The planet doesn't rotate on it's axis...at all so one side is considerably darker and colder while the other side is extremely bright and frying radiating heat (unless of course they find water preseent, that would change everything I've said tremendously. But for now let's just go with what we know The star it orbits around is a red dwarf sun which emits alot less energy and heat then our sun This planet is also three times the earths mass It's 20 LIGHT YEARS AWAY even if we got a space craft to travel at 50% light speed, it would take 80 years to get there. If the shuttle to get there would be going 50% even 20% light speed, the space craft still has to stop. The passengers would probably be crushed from the extreme shift in speed. These are just some things to think about before "moving in". I would love love love some opinions on this guys!

I guess that makes sense becuase of the gravity is so intense you cant just turn around and fight your way out of it. I hate black holes becuase the laws of physics break down. But I also love them becuase again, they dont follow the rules

Ok so as you all know in the process of a black hole forming, two burst of energy hurtle through space, the two bursts of energy are called gamma ray bursts. Gmma ray bursts esentially vaporize anything it comes close to. So my question is, considering there are a number of wondering nomadic black holes in the universe, what are the chances of our planet/galaxy getting vaporized by a gamma ray burst?

Again, assuming you can make it into the event horizon wihtout being mutilated and swallowed, I believe that you would recieve them in a rapid succesion. But to be honest, I doubt that it's even possible to be able to recieve a signal. The reason for this is that the gravity is so great it swallows evrything including light! So you probably wouldn't be able to see it especially because you would be in a place of clouded gases and things so you wouldn't be able to really see anything anyway becuase it be like your in a fog.

matter can neither be created nor destroyed...think about that

Hi I'm moon jelly and I looooove science, like seriously I could talk about dark matter and black holes for the rest of my life if I could. The only kind of science i like though is astronomy and cosmology all that earth science crap is boring. I could give two flying monkeys about granite, limestone, and volcanoes but anyway I.LOVE.OUTER SPACE <3

Okay so my theory on time travel is; when approaching the event horizon of a black hole( if you can even make it that far without whatever space craft your traveling in being stretched to it's absolute limit then being torn apart and swallowed) time seems to slow down untill it eventually almost seems to stop, but in reality, in the event horizon times seems to move at normal speed inside of it.But, on the outside looking in it looks as if your not moving at all. The laws of space time break down at the event horizon breaks down becuase there virtually is none. So, when you got back to earth you'd be in the future because you were basically in a place where time stopped or just didn't really exist, but on Earth, everything was still moving and time did work. I'd really like to hear opinions on this topic!

I'm a fairly young arising scientist. But this is what I believe base doon my knowledge; the big bang makes practically anything seem possible if you really think about it. I mean there was a tiny particle that erupted into an entire universe in less than a second. This makes almost any sort of travel in the universe with in a certain time frame seem possible. Such as traveling to our neaest goldilocks planet which is 20 light years away. If we were to able to create a space craft that would be able to travel 50 % light speed, we'd be there in 80 years. Seems impossible right. But think about what the big bang did and how fast it was in such a short period of time. Just something to think about
