Hi all, I have been tasked with finding the equation for the combustion of heptane (C7H16). We put some heptane on a watch glass and watched it burn and it disappeared. I am assuming that it reacted with the air, or the moisture in it. Does it evaporating rather quickly on the watch glass point to something obvious? Can someone point me in the right direction? All questions and comments are appreciated. Thanks! »fo EDIT: Something like this...??? C7H16 + 11(O2) == 7(CO2) + 8(H2O)

A spherical shell has inner radius R-in and outer radius R-out. The shell contains total charge Q, uniformly distributed. The interior of the shell is empty of charge and matter. Find the magnitude of the electric field within the shell, R-in <= r <= R-out. Basically find the E-f within the sphere. I don't really think I understand it. The charge lies all on the exterior, so the interior surface must have -Q. I have tried several different answers, but they say that it depends on R-in and, I assume R-out. I know its a Gauss problem and E = Q/A*e-0, but I am having trouble finding the Q. Do I find the volume density of the big sphere and multiply it by the volume of the Gaussian sphere? Any help? Thanks! EDIT: Well...I guess just talking about it 'out loud' helped alot. I realized I was on the right track by getting the volume of the shell (the R-out minus R-in) and putting that under the Q to get a volume charge density, then multiplying that by whatever volume I wanted, which was the volume at my 'r' minus the volume of R-in. Put that over A*e-0 and voila! Anyway...thanks...even though you didn't do much.

Does anyone know the difference between molecular absorption spectroscopy and atomic absorption spectroscopy? I know AAS destroys the sample, but I need to know another diffference? I tried searching but can't really find anything about MAS. Is there another name for MAS? Thanks, fo

On http://www.getlaughing.com/NewVersion/template1.html this page, the "rollovers" (the gray images become invisible on hover, revealing the blue background images) don't line up. Is there any way I can fix this? The backgrounds and front images (the disappearing ones) don't line up. The CSS is here : http://www.getlaughing.com/NewVersion/TopNavigation.css ^fo

How would I create an array of objects? I have an object 'Cube'. Current code which doesn't work: Cube[] square = new Cube()[]; Obviously, the last thing there does work, but how would I do it? ^fo

I have this class entitled Cube and it extends JButton, but being new to programming, especially OOP, when I declare a Cube, how would I go about displaying a JButton, with the text/caption and all? Should I put anything special in the constructor? In the object class: public class Cube extends JButton { ... } In the client: Cube cube1 = new Cube(); I have used JButton's alot but have never extended them, and then tried to declare one. Greatly Appreciated, ^fo

it would very risky but you can get some HCl and some Na(OH) , put them together in a container of some sort and drink it. it would be salt water. things like this show the power of chemistry, two dangerous chemicals make...salt water. (obviously, the Na(OH) is the active ingredient in drain cleaner, so be forewarned) fo

I want to actually display this: <a href="http://google.com">Google</a> in a textbox when the user clicks a command button but I can't seem to find out how to display the quotes without VB thinking that I am trying to concactanate or display another string, help! fo

to add i think you are right in that the 1's and 0's represent gateways that electrical current can pass through, a certain combination of electrical pathways results in the computer doing what it has been told to do

the far right digit is the number of one's in the number the second from the right is the number of two's in the digit third from the right=4's fifth=8's and so on in base 2 i also think that there is a value to tell whether it is + or - but i will someone else tell you about that so binary two is 10 because the "tens" digit represents how many two's there are in the value so...1 value of two + 0 value of ones = 2 and then since there are eight bits to a byte and byte can store a value up to something and the largest number that can be stored in memory is something because of the eight digits in bytes and the number of byte used to store things that's all i have interested to see the other answers to your questions though

Thanks you guys, that's kind off what I thought it was. But about the freezing, it just doesn't make sense because I had to move the beer to get to the soda (tells you about my priorites) and I noticed that the beer was, in fact, liquid, but (like before stated) when I picked it up it was frozen solid. This is getting scientific but could the beer have been so close to freezing that as it was in freefall to the floor, it froze (obviously because cold air sinks, etc.) #fo

Over the weekend, I went to reach for a soda in the refrigerator, and a glass beer bottle fell out. When I went to pick it up it was frozen and I noticed that the cap was a little bit loose. Did the pressure change in the bottle cause it to freeze? Or is it something else? Just Wondering #fo
