  1. ok, not against rules here. my evidence is what i heard from friends, what i saw on TV and what i find out...even in Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SK-II i dont understand why it (and the products alike) is still in the market. the thought that i want to learn how to read labels in products does make sense to me.
  2. ok, nobody believes it, but it really happens around me.. although there are so many complaints.on those famous skin care products, the horrible thing is those products are still in the market. if i list the product brands, i guess it is against rule here ? so i give it up.
  3. i just read this : The Environmental Working Group (EWG) did a study which found the average person in the US uses 15 body, skin and hair products daily. (I’m struggling with this estimate. Do you believe it? I use a handmade soap and little else. The amount of toxins absorbed through the skin and lungs from the daily use of 15 products is downright scary!) The EWG estimates that one in five products used on the skin contains an ingredient which is a suspected carcinogen. This means that most people in the US use at least three products on a daily basis which contain a potential carcinogen. Believe it or not, many of the ingredients used in skincare products – and approved for use by the FDA – undergo little or no testing prior to approval. http://goodworkswellness.com/top-ingredients-to-avoid-in-skin-care-products/
  4. i am asking why the link given claims H2O is dangerous,,,? because i feel so funny. @.@ later i find it is just ' H20 hoax ' .
  5. did i ask H20 is a harmful ingredient ??
  6. dihydrogen monoxide is water, right ? H20. how come this link claims H20 is dangerous : http://www.dhmo.org/facts.html 'Each year, Dihydrogen Monoxide is a known causative component in many thousands of deaths and is a major contributor to millions upon millions of dollars in damage to property and the environment. Some of the known perils of Dihydrogen Monoxide are:...; H2O, WATER, we drink and use everyday.... hello H2O ~~~~
  7. although i am not experiencing any adverse effect from skin care products, i really want to know how to tell the irritant or not healthy ingredients when reading label, such as separating the good alcohols from bad and avoiding mineral oil....petrolatum..(but i am not 100% sure i am correct or wrong, so willing to share with you and discuss about it.) i am not here to be sarcastic or critical about skin care products, but we should be aware that some products have adverse effect on skin in long time in particular once users stop using it. for example, some products include estrogen/steriod or the like...but i dont know their chemical names, that's why i am here to ask... Enthalpy, you no need to be cynical and oversensitive, be nice. 1.for lower cost and longer shelf life.2. attracting customers by developing skin-whitening & rejuvenating effect which may be harmful to health, etc. i am curious what skin care products are you guys using ? i once used Johnson's baby milk lotion.
  8. could anyone help me check these ingredients below to see whether there are any harmful skin care ingredients included ? thanks . - Aqua; Glycerin; Hydrogenated Palm glycerides; Dimethicone; - Cetearyl Alcohol; Ethylhexyl Palmitate; Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate; Propylene Glycol; - Chamomilla Recutita(Matricaria)Flower Extract; Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice; - Tocopheryle Acetate; Bisabolol; Phenoxyethanol; Methylparaben; Ethylparaben; - Propylparaben; Parfum(Fragrance) can anyone give me some further advice about how to tell whether the skin care cream includes any harmful ingredients ? thanks again.
  9. Ringer : Now run as fast as you can for 15 sec and don't let your heart rate increase. how come the heart rates wont increase after running as fast as you can for 15seconds ?
  10. SamBridge, are you sure you can make it ? could u PL tell me how ? thanks. quote:The second is that I was able to repeatedly and measurable slow my heart rate down at will from around 120 beats per minute to 70 bears per minute in less than 3 seconds.
  11. thanks for your efforts for this thread. have a look at this : quote:(Birth Control Pill: Oral Contraceptive Use May Be Safe, But Information Gaps Remain) 'Any woman considering the use of contraceptives should be evaluated for cholesterol levels, blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, kidney problems, obesity and other vascular diseases, including migraines. Healthy, nonsmoking women who are 35 or older can continue taking a low dose oral contraceptive until 50 to 55 years after reviewing the risks and benefits.' http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/01/090114092848.htm by the way, why is it the women who take OCs ? not men ? let's invent a medicine for men ! give women a break.
  12. yes, that is anecdote without any supportive evidence. do women with enough estrogen look younger?? as what zapatos quoted, it may be a convenient way to avoid having your period during an important occasion or trip, but as i know the risk overweights the benefit in long run. again, " then you should take the placebo pills so that you'll have a menstrual cycle." ? taking placebo pills to bring back the normal menstrual cycle ?? you are not kidding me....what are they made of ? sugar, they are not real birth control pills, are they?
  13. http://www.livestrong.com/article/161068-dangers-of-late-menopause/ just googled an article about Dangers Of Late Menopause.
  14. "because estrogen can cause some weight gain" -- but i see women who undergo menopause gain weight a lot. besides that it seems the later the menopause starts the younger&healthier the women look like, but unfortunately doctors say the later menopause is not good too. (exception to an indian woman who gave birth at age of 60.) a girl i know got her period at age of 10. i believe the age of first period matters. in a word, it is unlucky to be a girl. guys dont have any trouble of it.
  15. No, i didnt realize it can shorten the period days (prolong the menstrual cycle) and lower the amount of bleeding. how about the athletes ? female swimmers/divers still swim during their period..... do they take any medicine to postpone their period when they go for competition ? i think it is bad to take medicine to disturb the menstrual cycle. .
  16. i found the more regular and moderate exercise a girl has, the shorter the period days(the longer the menstrual cycle) and the less amount of blood loss she has. vice verse. why ? is it not good ? can women ignore it and continue their regular & moderate exercise ? the moderate exercise is brisk walking for 50minutes everyday, which is considered low intensity and very good for health.
  17. Being a layman, can i ask : *are we capable of feeling the said chemical released into the blood ? *do we always feel the said chemical ? *All the chemical or some chemical can be felt by us ? *why use "feel/feeling" ? being a layman, my understanding is our brain responses to both external and internal environment, but we dont always feel it. external environment means the place we are living in; internal environment means our body itself. any stupid statement above, PL correct me. thanks.
  18. thanks for your answer, but can i correct you a bit ? quote: (x = INT(0.5 + (a/n)) * n is simpler if the INT(number) function rounds up if the decimal part is > 0.5.) when a=31students, here we go: x = INT(0.5 + (31/4)) * 4 = INT(0.5+7.75) * 4= INT(8.25) * 4= 8*4=32. quote: (x = ROUND(0.5 + (a/n) * n can be used, ROUND(number, decimals), if INT() doesn't round up > 0.5.) when a = 28 students, here we go: x = ROUND({0.5 + (28/4),0 })* 4=ROUND (0.5+7) *4= 8*4=32 ---> ( sorry, i dont get it by using your theory.) note: ROUND(7.5,0)= 8. if the decimal part is < 0.5, you still need add 0.5 to it ? i dont get it.
  19. Great minds think alike. definition of replicator is copy, like photocopying. fire is one of the most magical substance in nature, and it is more than replicator, and of course it fits in chemistry not biology.
  20. Thank you very much, it is what i want !
  21. hey guys, any very wonderful medical detective books you guys can recommend ? PL provide with authors, thanks. : - )
  22. yes you are right. i use equation to get the answer. assume I will get X free bottles, so 3*X+X=28 X=7 3*7=21 finally i will get 21 bottles + promotion of 7 bottles free lunch for total 28 classmates. but what if there is a total of 31 classmates with only 1 bottle of coca cola per person ? 3*X+X=31 X=7.75 ( 31 can't be divided exactly by 4.) the answer is you have to buy 24 bottles and get 8 free bottles, so (24+8=32) 32 bottles for 31 classmates. my Q is : anyone can give me a better equation for this Q ? thanks.
  23. yes, you are right, but most of people get answer : 19 bottles. 1. 3*9=27 2. of total 28 bottles, i can buy 9 packs of 3 bottles, buy 3 free 1, then receive free 9 bottles, hence 28-9=19. what's the trick ? why this is the wrong answer ?
  24. some Qs look simple, but it is not easy to get the right answer, here is the one below : you and your 27 classmates go to buy coca cola. the promotion is: buy 3 free 1, ask: how many bottles of coca cola you and your classmates need to buy ? (only one bottle per classmate)
  25. yes, it can get rid of methanal.
