What happens to a deep sea fish when it's pulled up to shallower water?
AzurePhoenix replied to tellerulam's topic in Biology
It really depends on HOW they're brought up. Caught is some deep net and brought up quickly, and that's the fate they'll likely suffer, whereas those captured by sumbmersibles (those intended to be kept alive at least) are more gently introduced to lower pressures to allow them to gradually acclimate, though of course this sin't always succesful either. My question is if pressurized tanks are ever used to house them? -

aye. In fact, alotta species actually live at or near the surface sometime during their lifecycles, or travel up and down to feed or mate. -
Never mind Spiderman or Batman, this is the real issue.

I never heard of the wombles or clangers, but from what I saw on the links at wiki, the wombles have those vicious beaky-things. -

If Spidy weren't such a good guy he might have a chance if he forced his own trademark old-person (Aunt May) to flaunt her stuff to seduce batman's trademark old person (Ol' Alfy) -
and if you think about it, our backs are adequate during our youth, it's usually only later that problems arise. And in nature, a feature need only last for as long as it takes for us to breed. What's it matter if it all starts to fall apart as long as it doesn't give way until after our peak breeding ages? Ah, I also remember that some people think that standing upright helps reduce the amount of area of the body exposed to the sun. Moving onto the plains, a standing ape would only get direct shine on his head and shoulders while the sun is above, while it would fall across a quadrupedal ape's back and such. This link points out some of the general ideas

After 19 my comp wouldn't process them, but I could only barely make out 19. None of them really got to me though; maybe that ocasional ringing in my ears from the migraines has innoculated me

It quite simply may not be in close proximity to residential areas, or even if it is maybe the range is too low. We don't know any of those details well enough to make an issue out of them.

I'll vote for tear-gas deployment, it's effective against all loiterers indescriminately, hearing-capable as well as the old, deaf, and IPod-protected

And I think you should be ashamed for criticizing others for voicing concern for a possible problem simply because it hasn't gotten bad YET. It is not a wise thing to ignore small problems simply because worse things happened once. An intelligent person doesn't try to shrug off an issue as not worthy of concern just because he or she is concerned that it is an insult to people who suffered bigger problems. It doesn't change the fact that it is NOW posing an issue, no matter how minor. I never ONCE said anything about the sufferign of other peoples or said those I'm close to are any worse than any other. YOU attacked me arrogantly claiming that I was ignorant of the subject and I responded in kind

if it puts my perspective into... perspective... at all, I've never been particularly fond of those varied age-based privelages either, especially considering how many people plenty old enough to be allowed them probably couldn't be trusted with caring for a houseplant for a weekend

I am simply looking ahead to the potential this kind of action carries with it. Don't tell me what i do or don't understand, I full well know the atrocities committed against undeserving peoples, including some my own ancestors whose people the american government payed bounties for as rewards for their murder. It may not be a big deal now, but people have a long history of taking things steps further bit by bit until eventually a line is crossed without anyone ever realizing it. That is why this disturbs me.

Now, if any of you know me at all, you know that the last thing I am is a humanitarian, but frankly I was a bit shocked by this when I saw this -> The issue quite obviously isn't just about "annoying young people." Younger people as a large generic group are being targeted as people to be repelled. Now, while I don't see anything wrong with keeping trouble-makers out or whatever, I don't see how you could be okay with persecuting an entire group, which is more innocent than not, simply because they have a higher rate of trouble-making. Punishing someone for what they are, based on a what is ntohign more than a potential they have no control over is vicious and uncivilized, no matter whether a positive result comes of it or not. You don't control your age, just as you don't control your skin color or nationality or even where you come from within a specific area. And while any of these things might make it more likely for you to act a certain way statistically, it doesn't mean that you will or even that you specifically are likely to at all. In Arizona Mexicans have a particularly high rate of crime, and keeping them out of certain areas would certainly reduce theft and such, just like kids, but hell knows that if something were designed to keep them away, half of you who support this damned buzzy-noise thing would be up in arms all offended by the racist nature of the concept. There is no difference. They are simply younger than other people, they don't choose it. Being young is WHAT a young person is, not WHO they are, and it doesn't make them deserving of prejudice for it.
-
Ahh, my mistake. Where I'm from a theater courtyard or square or whatever is a major social gathering area with shops and resteraunts all around so it would amount to the same sort of thing as keeping kids out.

Most stores design themselves to ATTRACT the people who are most likely to want their particular services or products. You go to a Punk-Clothing store, and their customer base would be be repelled if the store played classical music or country western, so of course, they play whatever music it is that the punk-type people listen to. It's not to repel other customers, it's to make their primary focus-group more comfortable and to basically woo them. Everyone is going to be annoyed by something differently than other people, whether it be the music being played, the way the store is decorated, or the products being sold. But these are all molded to fit people the store suspects will be most attracted to what they're selling. Go to a big department store and you'll see that all of these things vary from section to section depending on who would be most likely to frequent that section. This sound is specifically targetting young people in a direct attempt to keep them out. It is put in place and designed to target them and keep them away based on the prejudice against their youth. The two "scenarios" are not the same in any rational way.

Bat's didn't beat super in a hand to hand fight, he beat him by using his vast monetary resource to obtain the kryptonite with which he weakened him. He would need to take similar measures to beat Spidy (tech-gear wise). But you know how the superman thing often goes. -superman confronts foe -superman is trounced either by some kryptonite or someone more powerful than he expected -superman finds a way to get rid of the kryp. or goes into a bezerker rage and just pounds the meathead. Not all the time mind you, but often enough. Too often for such a demi-god in my opinion. -

For Xavier's Sake' date=' [i']everyone[/i] beats superman. -
You're certainly smart enough to see the error in that remark. They listen to that music because for some reason their twisted little brains like it. This repellent buzz is intended for no use other than repelling specifically.
-
Aye, shouldn't they be waging their efforts against real theats, like bored housewives and fallen movie stars suffering from complusive cleptomania? and <insert good-humored racial slur here>

not mean, just.... ruthlessly brilliant. It's common sense really, I'm ashamed for not realizing it.
-
I think that goes without saying.

hmmm, it's like the sound i hear when I've been swimming for a while, but less keening. If the actual sound isn't much worse than that recording, I think I could handle it, although that pulse it plays along to might be a tad annoying.

Definately the dusty old chute. I ain't gunna trust my hide to some newfangled doohicky scribbled together by good-for-nothin' rabble rousin' young'ins on thar' satan-inspired com-poo-tohrs.

Batman is plain nuts, I don't think there's any denying that. But if you think about it, the two have rather similar backgrounds, except Spidy didn't see his parents die himself, but he did witness and sort of CAUSE hsi uncle's death, and instead of some cool guy like alfred he got saddled with a frail old ninny of an aunt (and poor too:-p ). Spidy had it way worse than Batsy but he still managed to stay sane and chipper I agree about the movies, but most of my criticism is aimed at Toby McGuire so I don't have much time to focus on the other blatant issues. How I loathed him...
