  1. Dak, I could kiss you; thank you for your successful advice. Cap'n, Bettsy, I appreciate your help as well.
  2. I can simply switch between the listed options, but none of them are right. I'll go check with Neowin though.
  3. also, I can't even access the game because it's been claiming the video driver is insufficient ever since the "incident" that caused this whole problem
  4. If I go to adapter, I can change teh settings, to higher pixel, nothing normal and certainly not fixed I can go into adapters, which is where I go to make it loook the way I did above, but it won't give me any options for updating or erasing. I'm basically locked out of every suggestion. Clicking on properties on that tab takes me somewhere where no changes can be made.
  5. I'm going to cry. I can get as far as the monitor tab, but from there, it says its set on the default monitor and it won't let me get into the properties to make te changes. Might anyone know how to fix that? Is it as simple as unplugging adn replugging the monitor to the computer itself?
  6. When I go to properties to manually change teh resoltuion, as one would normally do, the options available are limited to the single, low grade setting I'm stuck in, which isn't normal. Bettsy, thanx for the advice, trying it now.
  7. Okay, I downloaded that game Guild Wars and although didn't have a good enough video card to keep up with it hoped I could set it on lower qulaity setting and play without trouble (as I am able to do with such other games as Knight of the Old Republic) Cutting my self-loathing rant short, my computer is now stuck in 640 by 480 pixels with 16 bit medium color quality, and it won't let me change the settings. Is there anything I can do? ---edit--- I use Windows XP home edition
  8. Hoorah! I just finished putting it together
  9. Eh, I find that teally good television can be on par with books (as long as there isn't a book version it's trying to ruin of course.) I mostly watch the same sorts of things that I read, science fiction and fantasy, science documentaries and comedy, which is basically covered by the science channels, Lost, Surface, Stargate, and the Simpsons. There are others. The difference is that when I watch TV, that's not all I'm doing. I'm usually also writing something, or actually reading something else, so I get some extra "productivity" in there
  10. I voted for two at a time, but now that I think back, that's something I often do, not what I typically do. Generally for typically sized books (400 to 700 pages) I'll read them through and through in a couple of days (or as little as one if I'm particularly bored) then start a new one, but sometimes with larger, especially lengthy books (like when I reread the Lord of the Rings) I'll have a shorter book on the side to sort of balance out the tedium, sometimes two. I myself have an overflow of books as well, right now taking up fourteen shelves. Most of these are fiction, but three of these shelves are largely non-fiction aimed at zoology, paleontology, ancient history and mythology, as well as a few strays, plus my National Geographics.
  11. School children everywhere would be forty degrees closer to happiness in history class. What if an advanced and dominant sapient lifeform on earth had evolved from crustaceans rather than primates?
  12. That guy has earned my unconditional and undying respect, though I suspect his neighbors are going to prove to develop a rather high occurence of epilepsy.
  13. People sometimes mistake my self-contained contempt for them as being shy.
  14. Actually, underwater life is extremely vocal, I've heard it compared to the unending calls of birds and monkeys in a rainforest, it just happens that we can't hear it ourselves. Octopus really are amazing with their color change, but its foremost function seems to be camoflauge, or in some cases, such as the mimic and blue-ringed octopi, is used to discourage predators. To really see complex, dazzling displays for almost pure communicative purposes, look at some other cephalopods, most notably the cuttlefish. Those things are just insane.
  15. We had AP that we had to pay for, as well as college-classes that only cost about two hundred, with credits that were accepted at most colleges and universities.
  16. It causes me agony and impairs my vision, and it totally blinds my mom, so you have our empathy, but I'm not sure what triggers what reactions.
  17. Hehe, that video looked like something out a made for tv movie for the SciFi Channel. Question, from what I saw, was it supposed to be from the point of view of the actual creature? Who knew they'd use recording devices compatible with human technology? The wonders of the universe are mind-boggling.
  18. capsaicin is one of the more common of the chemicals, at least in chilis (capsicum plants)and it may be an irritant aimed at dissuading potential plant murders, like your average deer or boar. It's used in pepper spray too, an in large doses, actually can be lethally toxic. Ehhh, i'd try wikipedia for why, if rather wouldn't wait fro someone.
  19. Well as far as I know, the moon is getting further and further away a little bit every years. Many millions of years ago it looked larger, and in many, many years it will look smaller, eventually making eclipses less than total.
  20. - Funnily enough, I have a framed picture of Yoda on mine - black granite paperweight shaped like a rock with a brass frog crawling over it - a few large ball bearings and a pair of powerful ovoid magnets - a candle shaped like an alligator wrapped around a scaly ball - a brachiopod fossil - some old, dried out bird bones and a small deer's antler - a few of my great grandfather's old relics inlcuding his solid gold nail-care kit - A heavy wooden box with a large bronze skink attached to the lid - a wooden pen carved in the shape of a sperm whale and finally - half of an old rusty horseshoe ----edit---- - does a small, sleeping lovebird with a whistling snore count?
  21. eeehhhhhhhh, asi-asi... admittedly it is cute
