I see colors in letters and numbers! Anyone Else?
AzurePhoenix replied to Miaku's topic in Speculations
I've always wanted synethesia, at least the versions where sounds and letters also translate into colors. Miaku, how's your memory? I've heard that folks with variations of synethesia similar to yours often have better memories than the rest of us. -
I plan on going into a field I love immensely anyway (zoology), and I already work for free volunteering on weekends at a wildlife center. For me it's more about the experiences and the learning, not the paychecks.

The "rule" is that you shouldn't wear white after Labor Day. It's some pointless unwritten rule of etiquette.
-
- You strictly adhere to the "no white after Labor Day" rule. - You find yourself saying things like "You'll burn in Hell you pagan!" - You think Country music is too "sexy" for children to listen to.

A word of advice... Logic only leads to revelations when there's a modicum of sanity involved.

Individually, no, we aren't. But give him a break. Of my six closest female friends, as few as three together is enough to drive me crazy often enough, depending on their drama-levels. Imagine how bad 10 on 1 would be for a poor, degenerate little male!

simply beautiful, and very cute

Wow, for a sociopathic and tyrannical lunatic with a penchant for mad scheming (often with the intent of a major loss in human life and the destruction of civilization), I got a lovely number of mentions. I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! Except for Yourdad and Callipygous. You guys can burn in hell, and not regular hell, but the one that they send old people to when they're too useless to use as corn-farming slaves heheheh, My Memory called me sweet. Hehehe. Oh, I'd like to add Dak to my list. He's an all-around good member. Nice, funny, smart. And Bettina. That girl's got a good heart. *** And Callipygous, you can be sure, that if for some reason I ever did track you down, I would go a step further than your mailbox and hide scorpians in your shoes and underwear. That's if the pineapple doesn't come into play...

Seriously... me? If I had more than a bare three percent of a functional soul, I might possibly be inclined to maybe feel like crying. Thank you Nevermore, I am honored, albeit baffled. Now that I'm done sucking up, I nominate In My Memory, Phi for All, Sayo, Mokele, Coral Rhedd, and um... Coquina? I misspell that last one? Also, I don't know her from the forums, but Lenale from the chatroom seems to have a really good head on her shoulders.

"Re-Wilding" of N. American Megafauna?
AzurePhoenix replied to AzurePhoenix's topic in Ecology and the Environment
Hehe. I'm excitable. So sue me -
I just feel sad, because everywhere you look nowadays, cougars and wolves are gettinng a bad rep, and the media always makes it a one-sided attack. I liked the dolphin/turkey thing too, just in my stupid overzealousness, I thought it might have been a little more extreme than the situation warrented. Worry not, I'm seeking out a qualified therapist even now.
-
The dolphin/turkey analogy's a bit of a stretch of reason. Those animals, or at least creatures much like them, did once thrive here. Two of the many issues is that science really isn't sure about what exactly killed them off, and whether or not our native environments are still suitable for them. The second thing is, that even if the fundemental enviroment was suitable, it would never work because we've already decimated much of it. All the balances between flora and fauna are outa whack. There are no more great wild herds, unless you count cows, and enormous tracts of pristine grassland adjacent to woodland is hard to come by. We're not having trouble with wolves and mountain lions, they're having trouble with us. Meh, who cares about the people. They... ahem...we caused the problems in the first place. I'm more worried about what being so closed to so-called "civilization" and even less aply named "humanity" would do to the poor fluffballs.

"Re-Wilding" of N. American Megafauna?
AzurePhoenix replied to AzurePhoenix's topic in Ecology and the Environment
They did that with Cubans? Moronic losers. And yeah, it's sad that you never see these big plans to repopulate some of the other things, whether they be crocs, pythons or monitors. Classist bastards. -
"Re-Wilding" of N. American Megafauna?
AzurePhoenix replied to AzurePhoenix's topic in Ecology and the Environment
Look at hawaii for example. Snakes, boars, cats and mongooses have decimated rare bird populations. Similar thing happened to the dodos. And Florida, like the Land Down Under, has problems with cane toads. I think they've already determined that most African wild cats carry a feline form of aids, but I'm not sure if American species do, or how it might affect them. Like I said, as nice an idea as it is, there are simply too many problems, and not just little ones, but big ol' walloping problems. EDIT: Dammit, I forgot the goats, the goddamn feral goats who just won't give the Galapagos tortoises their fair share. BULLIES!!! -
Yeah, I posted a thread about this too. I think it's a grand idea, but it just can't be done. Maybe little naturalistic breeding parks, but definitely not re-establishing North American Megafauna in wild environments. EDIT: I think the wild horses, the asses, and maybe the camels might be feasible though, except that I'd be worried about the hybridization of the horses and asses with the feral horses and donkeys that currently have footholds.

SG1... or Atlantis??? How can one choose?!?!? SG1 has (or had ) O'Niell, Daniel and Thor (you gotta love Thor, just gotta), but Atlantis has the cranky Canadian guy , and this series is at least an attempt to explore uncharted waters. And by finally "getting rid" of that Ford guy, they open up all new possibilities for a character with some depth. Oh, Puddlejumpers. I love Puddlejumpers. Hmm, all this ranting, and I still have yet to choose.... EDIT:Had to vote for Atlantis, it was under-represented

"Re-Wilding" of N. American Megafauna?
AzurePhoenix replied to AzurePhoenix's topic in Ecology and the Environment
Those were some of my problems. Though there are similarities between the prairies and the savannas, most of the species are adapted to particular climates and diets, and everything out there is either developed, or nestled between developed regions. It'd be like trying to establish a pack of wolves in the empty lot between two homes in suburbia. The Wild horses and asses would probably fare quite well, but there simply isn't enough prey for the predators. And even if cheetahs could potentially adapt to preying on pronghorns, they'd be forgetting the vulnerable position that they happen to be in. Elephants just pose too many problems, not the least of which would be their destructive habits and aforementioned appetites. But even though I think it's too ambitious to "reintroduce" these populations, I do think it's a good idea to maybe attempt to create "naturalistic breeding reserves" for everything but the elephants. Though I suppose it'd be more difficult to prepare group-hunting lions for life on the savanna than it was for those two tigers a couple of years back. -
This Article Discusses the idea that extinct North American fauna should be "reintroduced" to America by establishing present day relatives from overseas, such as cheetahs, wild horses and asses, even elephants and lions. The point would be threefold... to help increase the populations of these declining species and contribute to conservation efforts to "restore" long lost Pleistocene megafauna and North American biodiversity and, of course, economically benefit rural America through ecotourism Even though I like it, I think most of it sounds too farfetched and undoable, and the article doesn't bring up any of the potential problems. But does anyone think it's feasible? And even if it were possible, should it actually be done?

Yes, saltwater is very good, very soothing, and it doesn't even really taste all that bad. Although it'd be easy to see why someone without prior knowledge or experience would jump to the false but perfectly understandable idea that "salt + sore flesh = ouchy" As for pets, we generally pass on more disease to them than they do to us, and at the very least, often when they do get sick from basic bacterial things, and then we catch it, it's because we don't follow the proper courses of sanitation necessary to potect them. And you definitely smell worse to them than they do to you. At least they're intelligent enough to not hold it against you.
