So, as long as it's useful, the abiliity could evolve in any system where any uv or infra lightwas produced, basically all of them. EDIT: That's just Earth evolution, with Earth eyes, other courses of evolution might easily allow vision across higher and lower wavelengths. Or some other perception entirely.

As strongly as I might support the Mole Man idea, I'm just saying people shouldn't get worked up over things that could have perfectly mundane explanations. Although, from a geo-astronomical standpoint or whatever, volcanoes are a big deal.

You could potentially believe in not one supreme god, but say, in a race or races of higher entities on higher planes. Not all powerful, and not perfect, but beyond us silly humans. Think "Ascended" Ancients from Stargate, or the Ellimist from Animorphs. Despite being pure speculation, this really appeals to me on certain levels.
