  1. It sounds like .5 mA should be .5 mS... milliseconds ....5/1000th's of a second.
  2. Where did Will make that statement?? I was watching George Will and Katrina vanden Heuvel the other day, Katrina was complaining that Bush and company are trying to muzzle the press and stifling freedom of speech. George pretty much embarrassed her by pointing out that never in history has speech been more free.
  3. Sarah, at first I was thinking that the resistance and inductance were in parallel, then I decided they were in series, sooooo, you posted the "thanks" while I was editing my post.
  4. The inductive reactance (XL) of the coil is 2*pi*f*L where f and L are 50Hz and and .07 henries respectively The resistor ® and inductor (L) are in series, sooo, the impedance (Z) equals sqrt of (R squared + XL squared) the angle equals arc tan of (XL ÷ R) If I recall, from ELI the ICE man, voltage leads current.
  5. But in this case, what evidence could there be? the only evidence is...that the books were cooked, that's about it. Since the 5 CFO's confessed their involvement, then why wouldn't the CEO be involved?? Unless he had absolutely nothing to be gained by the burning. Yes, tainted evidence seems pretty easy to dismiss...as in OJ's blood. Hasn't tainted testimony been dismissed in Jackson's trial??...not sure. I guess it depends on who the tainter and taintee are.
  6. Since you led me astray, I have to apologize to YT for mentioning putting high permeability toroid cores in the space between the two cans.
  7. Yeah, µ is the prefix "Micro", also (as said) "permeability", and "amplification factor" from the old vacuum tube days.
  8. They convicted Scott Peterson on circumstantial evidence. As for this case, it seems that if the CEO's defense can prove that the CFO"s "gain" would be much greater if the CEO didn't know about the cooking....then fine, let the CEO go loose. If not, then cook the CEO on circumstantial evidence.
  9. Interesting question. Since the 5 CFO's are proven criminals through deception, then by definition they're proven liars....I think. Is it possible to cook the books without the CEO knowing it....probably yes, but what would be the point of it....no point that I can see. IMO, though the 5 CFO's are liars, but there's no good reason why the CEO didn't know about the cooking, then the testimony of the liars should be allowed.
  10. I thought Columbus was scared shitless that he'd fall off the edge and Yuri was unknowingly in a geosynchronous orbit and proved the Earth was a flat disk.
  11. yeah, it only works with AC, but if you rotate the device rapidly, it'll pick up the earths magnetic field, though you'd probably have to rotate it at least 30 cycles per second for it to be accurate. I think the bandwidth of his device was around 30 Hz to 100 KHz
  12. Yeah, the box within a box idea should work. Talking about magnetic fields (in this case electro magnetic fields), a friend/co-worker of mine built a "field finder", he was selling them to people who worried about homes built near high voltage power lines or computer displays, TV screens etc. As I recall, he measured the electro magnetic field in milligauss in the ELF VLF bands Edited to add....it was also useful in finding electrical wires in the walls of your house.
  13. I've used mu-metal in the past for magnetic shielding, though I not an expert on it's properties. But it seems to me that if mu-metal is a good magnetic shield and has a high permablility, then the gap in YT's boxes should be filled with high permability toroid cores.
  14. It seems to me that the greatest scientist/inventor would be the guy/gal who made the greatest leap in technology relative to where they at at. How about the guy (I forget who) who discovered the world was round, not flat. Thatsa pretty big leap.
  15. Skye, I agree, the allegations weren't particularly exciting, makes one wonder why the story was brought to print.
  16. Does anyone know the measures used at Guantanamo Bay? There's been plenty of alleged measures.

    Pop ups

  18. I was having some problems with "Norton" (or something), I tried renaming the file, and it wouldn't let me. Aside from that, I stopped 90% of all pop-ups by disabling windows messenger, which I never use.
  19. I guess I don't get the connection between the bandwidth of the signal and the number of people tuning in.
  20. Is it possible that the retirement fund could go up and the insurance premiums go down?....Or is this a violation of the fundamental laws of "royal screwings" ?
  21. I may be missing something here, but it seems to me that the amplitude of the sound would be a function of the material of the colliding objects. I.E. two colliding brass bells make a louder sound than two colliding bricks.
  22. The air ionizes causing electricity to flow. I'm not sure you could calculate it, but you could do it empirically. I used to build "bug zappers" for my friends. I used discarded 10Kv oil burner transformers. I had to experiment with the grid spacing so I wouldn't get a spark under all the conditions of the air.
