Let's get down to the nitty gritty and the question posed by the thread title. No, we have absolutely no proof that any God or deity exists.

Whatever undesirable "racism" that may have been perpetrated by the Allies was, it certainly failed into insignificance to the wholesale slaughter, and attempted genocide by Hitler. History also shows at least in my country, vast improvements in relations between indigenous folk and European settlers. Times change. The known world was also governed by the church in the middle ages and during the inquisition. Nations mature, people become aware of injustices and civilisations change for the better. The evils of Amin and Hitler were in anyone's language, extreme examples of evil that needed to be excised, not withstanding one-eyed apologists and excuse makes for such regimes.

Let me first address the delusions in your thread....That is the claim in your thread that you have, or will prove anything. You have made a number of statements, and somehow fooled yourself into believing that you have shown Time dilation and consequently SR as wrong. This is a public science forum, open to any Tom, Dick or Harry, or even Randal to say and claim whatever they like. Your first step to even come close to making reality of your delusions is knowing what the scientific method is, and what in entails. Your second step is to know thoroughly what you are talking about when you say you have/can prove it invalid. Your post appears ignorant on that front. Your third step is to understand that you have fooled no one on this forum, in relation to the delusions under which you have made this thread. Time dilation/Length contraction and consequently SR, are as close to certain, as any scientific theory allows. So far you have not changed a thing, and I dare say that will remain. A clock measures the duration between events and motion. Both occur in time and are not the cause of time. SR tells us that the onboard clocks on something in orbit, should measure time as running slower then clocks measuring time on the ground by about 7 microseconds per day. The ground clocks and the onboard clocks both appear to be ticking at 1 second per second from within each's own frame of reference. It is only when the comparisons are made that one realises that time dilation as per SR has taken place. Just as predicted by SR. That of course is just one example of many examples. http://www.astronomy.ohio-state.edu/~pogge/Ast162/Unit5/gps.html The following gives a good account of the GPS and error analysis that is taken into account, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Error_analysis_for_the_Global_Positioning_System#Relativity extract: Relativity[edit] Satellite clocks are slowed by their orbital speed but sped up by their distance out of the Earth's gravitational well. A number of sources of error exist due to relativistic effects[15]that would render the system useless if uncorrected. Three relativistic effects are the time dilation, gravitational frequency shift, and eccentricity effects. Examples include the relativistic time slowing due to the speed of the satellite of about 1 part in 1010, the gravitational time dilation that makes a satellite run about 5 parts in 1010 faster than an Earth-based clock, and the Sagnac effect due to rotation relative to receivers on Earth. These topics are examined below, one at a time. much more at link....... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Error_analysis_for_the_Global_Positioning_System#Relativity

https://phys.org/news/2019-02-nasa-impact-crater-greenland-ice.html NASA finds possible second impact crater under Greenland ice February 11, 2019 by Maria-José Viñas, NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center A NASA glaciologist has discovered a possible second impact crater buried under more than a mile of ice in northwest Greenland. Credit: NASA Goddard A NASA glaciologist has discovered a possible second impact crater buried under more than a mile of ice in northwest Greenland. his follows the finding, announced in November 2018, of a 19-mile-wide crater beneath Hiawatha Glacier—the first meteorite impact crater ever discovered under Earth's ice sheets. Though the newly found impact sites in northwest Greenland are only 114 miles apart, at present they do not appear to have formed at the same time. If the second crater, which has a width of over 22 miles, is ultimately confirmed as the result of a meteorite impact, it will be the 22nd largest impact crater found on Earth. Read more at: https://phys.org/news/2019-02-nasa-impact-crater-greenland-ice.html#jCp the paper: https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1029/2018GL078126] A Possible Second Large Subglacial Impact Crater in Northwest Greenland: Abstract Following the discovery of the Hiawatha impact crater beneath the northwest margin of the Greenland Ice Sheet, we explored satellite and aerogeophysical data in search of additional such craters. Here we report the discovery of a possible second subglacial impact crater that is 36.5‐km wide and 183 km southeast of the Hiawatha impact crater. Although buried by 2 km of ice, the structure's rim induces a conspicuously circular surface expression, it possesses a central uplift, and it causes a negative gravity anomaly. The existence of two closely spaced and similarly sized complex craters raises the possibility that they formed during related impact events. However, the second structure's morphology is shallower, its overlying ice is conformal and older, and such an event can be explained by chance. We conclude that the identified structure is very likely an impact crater, but it is unlikely to be a twin of the Hiawatha impact crater. Plain Language Summary: It is increasingly rare to find new large impact craters on Earth, let alone such craters buried beneath ice. We describe a possible impact crater buried beneath 2 kilometers of ice in northwest Greenland. The circular structure is more than 36 kilometers wide, and both its shape and other geophysical properties are consistent with an impact origin. If eventually confirmed as an impact crater, it would be only the second found beneath either of Earth's ice sheets. The first was the Hiawatha impact crater, which is also in northwest Greenland and only 183 kilometers away from this new structure, so we also evaluated whether these two craters could be related. They are similarly sized, but the candidate second crater appears more eroded and ice above it is much less disturbed than above the Hiawatha impact crater. Statistical analysis of the frequency of two unrelated but nearby large impacts indicates that it is improbable but not impossible that this pair is unrelated. Our study expands knowledge of the impact history of the Earth and raises the question as to how many other impact craters buried beneath ice have yet to be found.

The special relativity - observation of clocks in motion
beecee replied to ravell's topic in Speculations
There are many many reputable links listing the facts and evidence verifying both SR and GR, beyond any reasonable doubt. The fact that they are still overwhelmingly supported by mainstream science also supports that premise. No, I have not checked your link as yet. -
So you are saying that gravity does not fall off as the inverse square of the distances between two massive objects? Are you also saying that gravity is not 'non-linear? [in effect, gravity makes gravity.] http://www.einstein-online.info/spotlights/gravity_of_gravity.html Why does mass warp/curve spacetime? Why do we feel this curvature/warping as gravity? Obviously the many origins of gravity in our solar system and even beyond, are all masked by the effects of the gravity of the body we call Earth, the close by Moon and of course the Sun.

Clocks measure the effect we call time. Change and movement while connected, occur in time. Time would not stop if the universe stopped expanding...time would not stop if the universe started to contract... Real things certainly do exist....real things will result in some sort of effect....A magnetic field is real...time is real...space is real...motion and change are a result of time. Just as movement and change are connected, and occur in time, they also occur in space...Space and time are related also, and form a background we call Spacetime, which allows a description of reality that is common for all observers in the universe, regardless of their relative motion. The Intervals of space and time considered separately are not the same for all observers in various FoR's. Again, motion and change occur in time as opposed to causing time. One could also say that the observed reality and variable nature of space and time, are a result of the constant speed of light.

Hypothetically, can empty space “slice” through a solid object
beecee replied to Sunnyjosan's topic in Physics
Perhaps the best way to answer your question, would be that if a gravitational wave passed through or over you, you would elongate and stretch in line with the peak and trough of that gravitational wave. The examples of gravitational waves so far that we have discovered, are actually microscopically small so the effect is negligible. This short 7.5 minute video may also help to visualise and answer your question for you.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MO0r930Sn_8 Note at the 4 m. 30 sec mark and the 5m 10 sec mark. -
Am I? And yet it is you who is basically still claiming with utmost certainty, that you know the physical and philosophical concept of time, better than the thousands of philosophers and physicists over hundreds of years. I don't accept that. But my mind is not so closed as to not be changed when you can offer sufficient evidence to support your somewhat, imo, confused definition/s. The point was given due to the attitude of his total certainty in his claim, and in light of the fact that much is still open for debate on both the physical and philosophical question of time in mainstream science.

In Australia we have a system of Preferential voting which is a system of voting that allows a citizen to individually number and rank all candidates for both houses of parliament according to their preferences. https://www.sbs.com.au/news/explainer-what-is-preferential-voting Such a process enables a two-party system to ultimately emerge, whereby all votes are effectively divided between two major parties – in this case, the Labor and Liberal parties.

The point is that any first world nation should morally and ethically have some form of universal health care, for all its citizens. It is a basic human right. In my country all wage earners contribute to the scheme via a small levy on their earnings. Private health insurance on top of that levy, is optional. In essence then, this also covers all children, those out of work, and retirees and Pensioners of which I am one. Many first world nations have variations, and similarities to such a scheme, some maybe better, and why there is any divide on such an issue based on political agenda and whether one votes Republic and/or Democrat, is immoral and unethical. More to the point, a bloody disgrace.

Not much to add except probably two of the points that you have failed miserably on...Don't assume with certainty you have come up with some true/real definition, when scientists/physicists and philosophers have been trying to define it for centuries...and understand that mainstream opinion is mainstream because that model/view is the one that has best aligned with observations, and current data. PS: Don't hold your breath for anyone to PM you.
-
All you did was kept repeating what you claimed in the OP...that is soapboxing. By approaching the forum with a different attitude...[1] Don't assume with certainty you have come up with some true/real definition, when scientists/physicists and philosophers have been trying to define it for centuries...[2] Know the scientific aspect of time, and the general considered philosophical stance...[3]Accept when your definition is wrong, as I believe has been pointed out many times...[4] Accept that your claims are being thoroughly critiqued, as they should be, and in line with the scientific methodology...and finally [5] Try to understand that mainstream opinion is mainstream because that model/view is the one that has best aligned with observations, and current data.

Wrong. The strong force is mediated by gluons that keep the quarks in protons and neutrons bound in any atomic nucleus. The weak force is that force responsible for radioactive decay. http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/Forces/funfor.html Stop making things up. Singularities are simply where our current knowledge and laws fail us.
-
The earth can be likened to s spinning top as it slows down. [The slowing down of course, albeit only by a tiny amount, is explained by Newtonian, tidal gravitational effects with the Moon] Again, your speculative hypothetical fifth force is just not needed.
-
Bingo! The precession of the equinox of Mercury is explained by GR, and frame dragging or the Lense Thirring effect and other spacetime effects.
-
No it certainly is not: It is simply some unsupported speculative hypothetical that you have thought up. Perhaps it may be said that the only state of matter beyond the Plasma state, could be the state of matter where our laws of physics and GR break down, places like the so called singularity in a BH, and that which was evident at the moment of the BB. We can know nothing of the state of matter at the moment of the BB, or at a so called BH singularity. The rest you have just made up. Nonsense. Light has zero rest mass, and the particle nature of light is simply the quantisation of the EMS that we have labelled a photon. No, light is simply that part of the frequency of the EMS, that is sensitive to how eyes. Solid, Liquid, Gas, Plasma, and perhaps whatever state of matter that may exist at a BH singularity or the BB.

I'll stick to the general meaning of my whole statement thank you. "But situations do exist when one has no choice in the matter, and any moral concern need to be put in incubation for a period. As mentioned, the declaration of war by the British Commonwealth that commenced the WW2 is an example of an evil that was spreading and needed to be excised".

More fabricated conclusions and non physics terminology. Time does not facilitate any movement....movement/change occurs in time. Secondly while time can be seen logically as real, it most certainly is not a physical entity.
-
I don't see any "considered answers", just repeating yourself with no considerations of the points made against whatever it is you are trying to claim. While debating the concept of time is more philosophical then anything else, with varied expert opinions as to its nature, some facts do emerge that imo show time is certainly real. There is no universal now as Newton once thought. Your now is different to my now...your apparent rate of flow of time is different to mine. Experiments show this and rely on this everyday. Motion and rates of change occur in time. If everything stopped moving, if the universe stopped expanding, and any change ceased to be, time itself would not stop. The BB was the evolution of time and space, "as we know them". Time itself, at least imo, is infinite, while certain scales like before the BB, are not measurable by our current concept of time. Perhaps our definitions of space, time, as well as nothing, need redefining. At least that is the way that I see things. Like I said, there are many expert considered philosophical questions re time. My considered opinion is, it just is.

Sorry, matey, it is you who has not only missed the point, but also shown a total ignorance of physics in general. Mathematics basically, is the language of physics. If I was arranging to meet with you somewhere/sometime, I may give the co-ordinates of space thus....Planet Earth, 90 degrees South Lat: 0 degrees Long....on 18th July 2019 at 1200hrs. In other words three space coordinates and a time coordinate, all necessary for a successful meet up...all necessary mathematical dimensional constructs, all describing the reality of space and time. Nonsense. I have just shown you how those dimensions are absolutely necessary, and the evidenced accepted fact that neither space or time are absolute, also shows the ignorance and error of what you erroneously are imagining. And of course your "sniping" at Swansont would have every irony meter blowing a fuse! Pot, kettle, black, actually comes to mind. According to the evidence available to anyone that wants to research this subject, it appears it is you making things up. Again, time is not motion. Motion occurs in time...Time is a personal reality...your time is different to mine as is the rate at which it is progressing/flowing/passing or whatever terminology floats your boat. I also asked you previously if a magnetic field is real. You failed to answer, presumably because it would show the ignorance of what you are erroneously claiming. Depending how deep you require it be defined. Space is what separates things...it is real. Time stops everything from happening together...it is real. Spacetime is the multi-dimensional framework within which we locate events and describe the relationships between them in terms of spatial coordinates and time. Spacetime is a description of reality that is common for all observers in the universe. Intervals of space and time considered separately are not the same for all observers. And the final nail in your coffin is the fact that GR is described in terms of curvature of spacetime...spacetime that can be warped, curved, twisted, and forming gravitational waves. Or if you require a more professional outline of time, then as per the previous link by Sean Carroll that I gave you....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVINOl0Ctfk As he says, the question is actually is time fundamental.

I would hazard a guess and say that despots such as Amin and Hitler could not be trusted anyway to abide by any mutually agreed diplomatic route.

getting over fear: does frequency of exposure matter?
beecee replied to gib65's topic in Psychiatry and Psychology
I believe I can vouch for that. I was a tradesman, with a fear of heights. Even up something like a 20ft ladder, I was always paranoid about making sure it was grounded properly and with an assistant holding it secure. I would never approach near the edge of a cliff for fear of dizziness and going over. Then in 1974 while still a single bloke, I joined a three masted square rigged Barquentine in Cristobal on the Atlantic Ocean side of the Panama canal. As part of the crew, I was expected to take part in all duties and stand my watches. I told the skipper of my general fear of heights when he spoke of setting/furling the square sails and the obvious need to climb the mast via the ratlines, and venture out on the yardarms via the foot ropes. While waiting for our turn to traverse the canal, and the 12 hours or so it took to go from one side to the other, the skipper decided to take me under his personal command, and within 2 or 3 days, had me out on the yard arms maintaining the square sails. Of course we had not yet ventured out into the wide blue Pacific where the water/Ocean was not as docile and calm. But it was a start and before long I was up the ratlines and out on the yard arm foot ropes furling in sails when needed with the best of them in all sorts of weather and seas! PS: No safety gear either. -
Interesting thread and some interesting arguments supporting different points of view. My 10 cents worth, All War is morally and inherently wrong, period!! But situations do exist when one has no choice in the matter, and any moral concern need to be put in incubation for a period. As mentioned, the declaration of war by the British Commonwealth that commenced the WW2 is an example of an evil that was spreading and needed to be excised. The causes imo for morality to be put to one side, would be , [1] self defence, [2] humanitarian reasons, [3] obvious genocide of groups, [4]Unneccessary and continued aggression by one nation against others. What certainly is morally wrong in any "so called just war" is the animal like behaviour of some taking part in such wars against civilian populations, mainly female, which as we know has happened on both sides of the divide between combating nations. A pity we cannot work towards a united world government, where individuals in all countries are educated to acceptable standards. Perhaps then we may realise the futility of wars in general, the advantages and benefits of science in eliminating poverty and hunger etc, as opposed to self interests and, greed. 'Tis a dream I have.

America invade Germany? Hmm, I thought it was the Allies.
