Should NHS Staff in the UK Face Mandatory Vaccination?
beecee replied to Alex_Krycek's topic in Politics
It has been mandated in NSW with a small number of resignations. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2021/oct/09/less-than-01-of-nsw-health-staff-have-quit-due-to-covid-vaccination-mandates Fewer than than 0.1% of NSW health staff have quit due to Covid vaccination mandates Fewer than 0.1% of New South Wales health staff have resigned as a result of Covid-19 vaccination mandates, contradicting claims that opposition to the jab would lead to staff shortages. On Friday, the NSW health department confirmed that as of the beginning of October, only 136 staff members employed across the state had resigned “due to their position on Covid-19 vaccination”. “While this is disappointing, it is important to note that this represents just 0.1% of the public health system workforce of more than 140,000 people,” a spokeswoman for the department said. The figure stands in stark contrast to the narrative pushed by anti-vaccination groups, which in recent weeks have stepped up campaigns aiming to encourage protests aimed at opposition to mandatory jabs. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> -
Try again. If I did it uncritically, it would be religion or ID. I know what the question was...Since you chose to be obtuse, because we can, and because it is science. You need to critically examine what I linked for you before...regarding possibilities and probabilities.

So far the only real angry mob (as you put it) are the ones that have taken part in some of the Qanon inspired marches, the nonsensical conspiracy signs they carried, the destruction of property, the assaults on Police and law enforcement officers, the descecration of war memorials, the spitting on reporters, the pissing on other reporters etc etc etc When in Spain and attending some photo shoot with school children, after being diagnosed, and without a mask, including travelling to Spain and thumbing his nose at isolation rules. I call that arrogance. https://www.bbc.com/news/59939122 https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/jan/08/novak-djokovic-relied-on-december-covid-infection-for-vaccine-exemption-court-documents-reveal Djokovic pictured maskless at public event one day after positive Covid test Novak Djokovic faced fresh controversy over his attempt to enter Australia to take part in the Open tennis tournament after pictures emerged on social media of his appearances at public events after a positive Covid test was recorded in mid-December, which allowed him an exemption from the country’s strict Covid rules. Djokovic has spoken against vaccine mandates but has always refused to say what his own vaccination status is. He has been kept in a Melbourne hotel since Thursday after his visa was cancelled due to problems with the medical exemption from vaccination granted by the organisers of the Australian Open. https://thewest.com.au/sport/tennis/novak-djokovic-serbian-tennis-star-reportedly-probed-by-spain-after-entering-country-without-permission-c-5289512 Novak Djokovic: Serbian tennis star reportedly probed by Spain after ‘entering country without permission’ The Spanish Government is investigating if Novak Djokovic entered the European country without a vaccination certificate or exemption in December and January. Djokovic travelled from Serbia to Spain last month to train at the Soho Tennis Academy in Marbella, which uses the same court surface as the Australian Open, even though at that time it was unknown whether he would be allowed into Australia. Spanish media is reporting the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have asked police and immigration authorities to look into the matter, The Australian reported. It is being reported that Mr Djokovic did not seek special permission from the Spanish Embassy in Belgrade all the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to go into Spain without the documents. Tennis reporter Gaspar Ribeiro Lanca tweeted: “COPE reports that the Spanish government is now investigating whether unvaccinated Novak Djokovic entered the country illegally.” He noted that since September 20, citizens from Serbia needed a vaccine certificate or a special exemption to enter Spanish territory. “So far the authorities say they did not receive any request from Djokovic,” he said. https://thewest.com.au/sport/novak-djokovic/australian-open-novak-djokovic-admits-attending-event-while-covid-positive-mistake-in-travel-declaration-c-5275629 “The next day, on 18 December, I was at my tennis centre in Belgrade to fulfil a long-standing commitment for a (French newspaper) L’Equire interview and photoshoot. I cancelled all other events except for the L’Equipe interview. “I felt obligated to go ahead and conduct the L’Equipe interview as I didn’t want to let the journalist down, but did ensure I socially distance and wore a mask except when my photograph was being taken. “While I went home after the interview to isolate for the required period, on reflection, this was an error of judgement and I accept that I should have rescheduled this commitment.”

These lockdown restrictions mostly occurred in the early days, before anywhere near the present vaccination rates, and what kept us at reasonable sustainable levels as far as hospitalisations and deaths were concerned. The Djokovic saga and his arrogance, is now dead and buried and out of Australia's hands. Thankfully, other countries are looking at the facts that surrounds Djokovic and his actions, including lying on the application form, and his immediate tennis future is in limbo. He also is reportedly going to sue Australia. 🤣 He will lose that to, and again be saddled with court costs.

Oh I am most certainly, just nothing too soul destroying. Yet we all still embrace science and the overwhelming good it does. No just human nature and need to want and need for adventure, competition, to go further, explore more, achieve that which was once impossible etc etc etc. It's what makes us what we are. The same reasons we take flies, spiders, and all manner of experiments to the ISS...to observe, to collect data, to learn...the same reasons we search for extra solar planets, check their goldilock potentials, atmospheric contents, size, parent stars, etc etc. There's a multitude of reasons why we all embrace science. Most of it is common sense. And that will stop the extraction of metals and such from Earth? I don't think so. And of course we still have some way to go yet before we need to consider such Earth extractions, but by then we will be mining the Moon and asteroids comets etc. While the "2001: A Space Odyssey" and the follow up 2010, are among my top sci/fi movies of all time, I did think we were being serious. Any future mission/experiment to Europa, would entail all the protection necessary to probe its icy structure, which appears to be cracking and changing all the time. A shame though they have not as yet made the movie of the third installement, 2063.

Newtonian gravity, simply was not accurate enough to pick up the perhelion shift of Mercury, as opposed to contradicting it. GR was far more accurate and subsequently picked it up. I don't see Newtonian gravity as wrong because of that...just less accurate, but certainly accurate enough to be used everyday in Earth based situations (other then perhaps gps satellites where to maintain accuracy, GR is invoked) and in all our space shots. At least they are my versions of it.

https://phys.org/news/2022-01-nets-bycatch-sharks-wildlife-fishing.html Lighted nets dramatically reduce bycatch of sharks and other wildlife while making fishing more efficient: In a win-win for commercial fisheries and marine wildlife, researchers have found that using lighted nets greatly reduced accidental bycatch of sharks, rays, sea turtles, and unwanted finfish. Publishing their results in the journal Current Biology, the researchers found that lighted gillnets reduced total fisheries bycatch by 63 percent, which included a 95 percent reduction in sharks, skates, and rays, an 81 percent reduction in Humboldt squid, and a 48 percent reduction in unwanted finfish, while maintaining catch rates and market value of target fish. Authors of the study include Jesse Senko, Assistant Research Professor, Arizona State University; Hoyt Peckham, Director of Small-scale Fisheries, Wildlife Conservation Society; Daniel Aguilar-Ramirez, Fisheries Biologist, National Fisheries and Aquaculture Institute of Mexico; and John Wang, Fisheries Ecologist, NOAA Fisheries. Gillnets are one of the most extensively used fishing gear in coastal regions throughout the world's oceans, but often catch other animals not targeted by fishers. These include endangered, threatened, and protected species such as sharks, sea turtles, marine mammals, and seabirds, but also other fish species as well as non-marketable juvenile target fish species. These animals are often dead, injured, and dumped overboard. The incidental capture of non-target species—known as "bycatch"—in coastal gillnet fisheries has contributed to declines in endangered species worldwide and has also impacted coastal ecosystems. Over the past decade, illuminating gillnets with LED lights has emerged as an effective tool to reduce bycatch of endangered sea turtles in coastal gillnet fisheries. However, the effects of net illumination on other vulnerable species, total fisheries bycatch, and efficiency of fishery operations have never been examined. more at link................... the paper: https://www.cell.com/current-biology/fulltext/S0960-9822(21)01737-1?_returnURL=https%3A%2F%2Flinkinghub.elsevier.com%2Fretrieve%2Fpii%2FS0960982221017371%3Fshowall%3Dtrue explore further...................... https://phys.org/news/2019-12-fishing-nets-turtles-dolphins.html Lights on fishing nets save turtles and dolphins: Placing lights on fishing nets reduces the chances of sea turtles and dolphins being caught by accident, new research shows. LED lights along the top of floating gillnets cut accidental "bycatch" of sea turtles by more than 70 percent, and that of small cetaceans (including dolphins and porpoises) by more than 66 percent. The study, by the University of Exeter and Peruvian conservation organisation ProDelphinus, looked at small-scale vessels departing from three Peruvian ports between 2015 and 2018, and found the lights didn't reduce the amount of fish caught from "target species" (ie what the fishers wanted to catch). The findings support previous research which suggested LED lights reduce bycatch of seabirds in gillnets by about 85 percent. more at link.............

Predicting the results? What are you anticipating? Science is an excersise in never ending progress. We are still testing GR. Don't blame science and knowledge. Blame the choices some of us have made (as I have already inferred) in implementing that science. Yeah I've heard the same argument with octopuses becoming space faring entities...think possibilities against probabilities. https://www.quora.com/Could-octopuses-theoretically-evolve-to-become-a-space-faring-civilization-If-yes-what-do-you-think-it-could-look-like.. "The problem with the “Is it possible?” class of questions is that our explorations of the world have taught us that it is unwise to put constraints on what is possible. It may be more useful to address the probability of this happening. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Not sure how familiar you are with the Manahtten project, but one of the fears raised before they started, was the "possibility" of igniting the atmosphere and destroying the planet. So? What's that got to do with supposedly acting god like? Sorry, all I've been reading is pessimistic driven attitudes with regards to fabricated reasons why we shouldn't do it. Why should we do it? If we can, to promote science to the best of our ability and possibly prepare another planet for life, and possibly human life. eg: should we terra form Mars? I don't see why not, if (1) we are capable, (2) Understand that it would only occur over very extended periods of time. Why and how could it damage Earth? Experiment or mission, I fail to see any real concrete differences. Why wouldn't we learn anything from Europa? From memory, a landing mission/experiment to Europa was being considered, but pidgeon holed in favour of the Pluto/Charon New Horizons mission/experiment. I was of the opinion at the time that they chose poorly. But the New Horizons mission was exciting and gathered plenty of data.

WTF!!! We ourselves, may be a result of Panspermia...The many catastrophic explosions and such that have already occured on Earth, may also have flung life into space to one day seed another planet/Moon. Why should we not export microbes etc to a known sterile planet/moon? We basically know how the universe works, we don't know why. Why do you see it as blind, blundering interference? Isn't much of science (to begin with) blind and blundering? Preserving life on Earth is, certainly should be our number one priority...all species of life. Doing science, as per the OP question, is not meddling in the development of other planets, when that planet is known to be sterile. We are special in that we are intelligent advanced species, that are able to contemplate these things and successfully act on them also...nothing to do with any mythical god. Acting in accordance with what knowledge we have, and our capabilities is not being god like...it has nothing to do with the supernatural. Whether we apply that scientific knowledge for good or evil, is the important part. Seeding other sterile planets is not evil. Our Earth is likewise special, in that it is the only rock we know of supporting life. In the greater scheme of things though, we, and Earth are only a tiny, tiny, insignificant part of our observable universe. Space and time evolved, Stars evolved, Planets evolved, Life evolved on at least one of those planets. Science enabled us to understand this. As irresponsible a species that some of us certainly can be, the application of science, can lift us above this irresponsiblity by continuing to do science. The LHC, the ISS, the HST, the new JWST, are there to not only do science, but to apply that knowledge to help with existing problems on Earth. eg: agriculture, meteorology etc, and to take us further afield, out into the universe, and give us further insight and knowledge to understand why it is what it is.

Well said, and exactly what happened. Particularly the highlighted (by me) paragraph. ScoMo of marketing and his government stuffed this up from the beginning, and were a total embarrassment along with Tennis Australia. We( the federal government), certainly came out of this with egg on their face. In fact since the beginning of this pandamic, Australia would be in a far worse position if it had not been for the individual state Premiers. A copy of Mr Hunt’s letter references questions asked by chief executive Craig Tiley about unvaccinated people wanting to travel for the 2022 Australian Open. https://thewest.com.au/news/novak-djokovic-greg-hunts-letter-to-tennis-australia-about-medical-exemptions-revealed-c-5205643 “The Australian Border Force has advised that people must be fully vaccinated, as defined by ATAGI (the national advisory body on vaccines) to gain quarantine-free entry into Australia,” Mr Hunt wrote. “In relation to your specific questions, I can confirm that people who contracted COVID-19 within the past six months and seek to enter Australia from overseas, and have not received two doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration-approved or recognised vaccine, are not considered fully vaccinated.” The letter also states that it is up to the individual to ensure they meet the requirements for travel to Australia.

Most physicists reject the singularity as defined by infinite spacetime curvature and density, or your 0x0x0. As GR fails us at the Planck/quantum level, it could be said that the gravitationally collapsed mass resides at the Planck volume, which is 4.22 x 10^-105 cubic meters.(https://www.quora.com/How-big-is-a-Planck-volume#:~:text=Short answer%3A It is not,all — it is an infinitesimally&text=Not that it makes much,3)πℓ 1.7710 m) So a surface of sorts should lay at that level.

And driven by the fact that he has openly snubbed his nose at lawful measures to contain covid in other coutries including Spain, by not wearing a mask and ignoring isolating rules, and of course lying on his immigration/entry form. His arrogance was his downfall. The initial decision, far from being rational, was done in cahoots with tennis Australia and bending all the rules etc, to enable the number 1 drawcard to play. They were wrong.
-
No, Hawke did nothing of the sort. He simply followed the law/s of the lad and exercised his power, which because of the government mess up as described, was put aside by a court judge. Which after appeal to the high court was again upheld. Protecting one's work force and taking the advice of medical and health is not disingenuous. Djokovic as I pointed out did most certainly pose a threat, and lied on his form to boot. Australia's very strict lockdowns also are responsible for relatively minor death rates and hospitalisation when compared to other countries. That's bullshit. Australia is enforcing its own protective measures, and has nothing to do with France or any other country, deciding after Djokovic showed himself to be less then honest, to also apply their own strict versions to contain their covid infected numbers. Yes, certainly a political decision. We have elections coming on this year, and the conservative government lead by Morrison, would probably have had let him play, except the overwhelming opinion of the rank and file, and most state governments, to boot Djokovic, would have seen them tossed out on their arse. Djokovic got what he deserved and what was just.

yeah the religious aspect of some of those photos made me want to spew. Thankfully with the Eastern states of Australia, approaching 95% fully vaxxed rates, and many vaxxination mandates already in operation, these turkey's are literally pushing shit up hill. My concern is it being under the banner of "world wide rally" and that Qanon.

While we all understand that we havn't treated Earth the way we should, and havn't treated each other the way we should, we are still pretty special in being the only life form that can undertake space exploration and even contemplate what you suggest. Climate change will happen. What we need to do is limit our own contribution to it. Perhaps that could be too late. Earth either way has a "use by date" a few billion years hence, along of course with our parent Star. If we are to extend our occupational period in the universe and avoid going extinct, we need to do explore and spread our seed. If we find a sterile world, I do not find what you suggest as something reprehensible. In fact, I see it as science and probably desirable and worth while. What you call "reverse Panspermia" may already be in process for all we know...We have had many explosive events on Earth that has probably hurled stuff into space. Abiogenesis on Earth itself could still hypothetically be a result of Panspermia. We have heard talk of terraforming Mars, something I find as far more unlikely, too large a time frame, and far more difficult to boot.

Bingo!!! But after viewing it a number of times Braveheart's William Wallace did come to mind. Worth noting these Aussie rallies, were under a banner of "world wide rally"

More organised "world wide rally" for freedom protest marches in most Australian capital cities yesterday. The following photos are from the Sydney march.... https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/sydney-antivax-protests-20211120-h1zwbc.html What does this first photo remind you of? The second one is Craig Kelly, former government minister, who has now formed his own party. Notice also the religious theme in some of the other photos. 🤮 It fair dinkum makes me want to vomit!! https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-11-20/morrison-on-back-foot-over-response-to-melbourne-protests/100633436 It's been 10 days since it was reported that a Victorian state crossbench MP, Andy Meddick, had been threatened with being shot and his children kidnapped because he had "consulted" with the Andrews Government on its controversial pandemic laws. And it's a week since gallows and angry protesters, often spouting QAnon conspiracy theories, started turning up outside the Victorian Parliament. At least two state premiers — Victoria's Dan Andrews and Western Australia's Mark McGowan — have received death threats. On Thursday, Meddick's daughter was attacked on the street and hospitalised. Mutation (split from The Selfish Gene Theory)
beecee replied to Evomumbojumbo's topic in Speculations
Theory, scientific theory that is, is our best estimation at any one particular time, according to available data. That's science. -
The federal government's position in this debacle was less then fair dinkum, as was Tennis Australia's postion for selfish reasons. He should never have been given a visa from the get go, and should never have got arrived in Australia, where they then caused the uncertainty and saw the error of their ways and finally had the balls to revoke it at the airport in Melbourne. The judges decision in granting Djokovic a reprieve was based on that confusing and late decision. The government then rightly appealed to the high court and the unanimous decision by the three judges to stand by the Ministers decision were upheld. He was then rightly booted out of the country. Australia has in excess of 90% vaccination rates, NSW and Victoria are approaching 95% rates. The everyday Australian citizen, particularly Melbournites underwent many lockdowns and curtailing of accepted freedoms to contain this virus, which we were reasonably successful in doing. Vaccination mandates in Australia also exist in many areas including aged care, and health and all sport. eg: the NRL, the Cricket association. Djokovic was a known anti vaxxer, and made no secret about that fact. he also ignored health orders in his own country, and Spain after testing positive and refused to wear a mask. Australians cannot travel interstate if they test positive and in some cases, full vaccination rates must also be shown, although this has relaxed somewhat. Djokovic as agreed by some of his tennis fraternity, was wrong. He literally lied on the immigration form, besides his well know anti vaxx stance and the thumbing of his nose at authorities. And you say he was hard done by? Political it may have been, but ultimately correct also. remember we have a federal government who is conservative and right wing, and ultimately has literally been forced into this postion by some of the Labor states. Western Australia by the way, is still isolated from the rest of the country with strict limits on any overseas arrivals and has by far the lowest infection rates. Hawke made a decision which should have been made before Djokovic landed...that decision was over ruled by a judge on appeal from Djokovic and his minders...The governemnt then appealed to the high court which upheld his original decision. Wrong! you have a minister of the federal government making an error of judgement in granting Djokovic permission to come to Australia, (in cahoots with Tennis Australia) then realising their error, refused the visa on landing. Djokovic was then released after the judge revoked the ministers decison, and Djokovic commenced practise on Rod Laver arena, having fun and thumbing their noses at media drones overhead. The minister and federal government appealed and that was upheld. Worth noting since all of this smart arse tactics by Djokovic has started, he will now be lucky to play in any other grand slam titles, particularly the French. Getting caught between a rock and a hard place comes to mind.

https://www.quora.com/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demodex I hereby introduce you to Demodex. It’s a kind of mite that lives in the follicles of your eyelashes and comes out at night to have sex on your face. Most people have it. But aside from the gross-out factor, it doesn’t appear to be harmful, so doctors don’t bother with it except in cases of allergy or such a high density that there’s obvious symptoms such as itching or rosacea
-
While that is certainly true for some, the historical facts are that vaccinations have been with us for quite a while now, and we all received them as infants and when growing up.eg: Whooping cough, Diptheria, Polio....The only notable differences between those times and now, is social media, Trump, and the rise of Qanon and conspiracy nonsense. What brought about this errosion of trust?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Naslaa https://www.quora.com/ The Al Naslaa rock formation is a rock formation located 50 km south of the Tayma oasis in Saudi Arabia. It has been split down the middle into two parts, both of which are balanced on small pedestals.[1] The cause of the split is unknown, but is posited to be due to natural causes including windblown sand and periodic rain.[2] The rock is approximately 6 metres high and 9 metres wide, and is covered on its south-east face with numerous petroglyphs https://www.quora.com/ That male lions have this amazing life where they don’t hunt and get easy meals. They often get portrayed as freeloaders who occasionally patrol the territory. So for example, this is a rare sighting of five male lions drinking water together: They are brothers and were part of the Mapogo coalition. They ruled for an unusually long time, nearly a decade. Most males that survive to adulthood only rule a pride for two years. The Mapogo coalition fathered many many cubs. They also brutally killed more than 100 other lions, mostly males, and cubs. This behavior isn’t uncommon. Everything eventually came full circle. Each of them eventually died a terrible death at the hands of other males. It was brutal, prolonged gang-up-style violence by a group of six brothers who then came and took over. Deaths usually took hours, with bursts of biting and scratching the chosen maimed lion. This is an extremely common cause of death for males. Lions are very brave and majestic, and people get excited just by the mere topic and sight of them. Rightfully so. But they aren’t particularly bright or gentle animals. The line between bravery and stupidity is razor-thin and it often gets males killed, charging into enemy territory, trying to fight three other males at once. They don’t stick together when it is obviously safer to do so. They take on high-risk prey and blow out their knee, sentencing themself to starvation. Do females do most of the hunting? Yes. But being born a female lion is a way better deal. They live longer and don’t have to deal with nearly as much intraspecies violence. Given a choice between the two, you’d want to choose to be a female 10/10.
