If we were all in the same class for the same reason, I would expect we all would be calling each other by our first names...prince or pauper.

Putting my space ship in orbit, I would first establish if life existed on this planet, if not already known. If that was found to be factual, the next step would be to research at what level of evolutionary status this life had reached. If there were complicated structures and cities equivalent to Earth based cities etc, then I would probably conclude that their evolutionary status was near or at a level of humans or above. If that was the case, then I would first try and make contact, establishing that we come in peace, and ask permission to land so as we can discuss the pros and cons of our differences, and conduct all necessary science to learn further about this new world. If it was found that a species existed similar to ancient stone age humans, I would I imagine, have an important decision to make... either establish the Star Trek protocol and let them be, or land, try to communicate with them, and help establish a relationship of genuine trust, and act to further there path of evolution. And again conduct all necessary science to learn further about this new world. If on the other hand, the planet was devoid of any life, or with a more simple, less evolutionary stage of life, then landing, taking possession of that planet or particular land form on that planet, with emphasis on protecting as much as possible, what life does exist. And again conduct all necessary science to learn further about this new world. I would be obliged to keep in mind, all I have learnt about humanities own troubled voyages of discovery, and the terrible exploration and discovery on our own planet Earth, when the Americas were founded with disregard to the existing humanity, and the discovery of Australia with the same similar disregard to the more ancient forms of humanity that existed there, and lead eventually to the extinction of certain races of that culture. Then I would continue on, exploring and going where no man has gone before. And all the time conducting all necessary science to learn further about our galaxy and beyond.

I don't doubt that for one minute, but you can bet your short n curlies, those that use reasonably, justifiably progressive PC, in a disparaging way, are in reality simply covering up their own short comings and actions in many areas. Not me. I've been trying to point out that misrepresentation and lies happen on both sides of the political divide.

Bottled Water: Is it better for you? What about the environment?
beecee replied to beecee's topic in Earth Science
As it may happen once every 12 months or so, I'll stick to the normal everyday, sweet, proven taste of tap water. -
Lucky bugger! I'm the opposite. I once had two nurses have 4 attempts to find a vein for an IV with me once...still no succes so they called a doctor. He did better and only had two goes before succeeding. The term he used was that I have "dancing veins" from memory, and they [when they find them] literally side step or jump out of the way of the needle...excruitiating procedure with me!!

On occasions when work is being done on water pipes etc, we get ample warning...I just fill up a jug before work starts. -
In Australia, this is the general task undertaken in late Winter/early spring seasons, and we call it "hazard reduction burning". We have been doing it for yonks and other then when unfavourable winds blow the smoke over city areas, it is done under expert guidance to prevent it getting out of control.

Why should the universe have a purpose? Why does your "therefore" with regards to the human mind and imagination follow?...I would also pick you up on your use of the word "creation"...evolution is more correct. Your "assertion" of complexification, seems to simply be another way of saying that entropy always increases with time...but then that only applies to isolated or closed systems of which our observable universe is not one...not even sure about the whole universe in fact. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_death_of_the_universe#Opposing_views

Yes, that makes sense, and is what I learnt from further research into this charecter JP. The following also sums him up nicely as well......from...https://www.vox.com/world/2018/3/26/17144166/jordan-peterson-12-rules-for-life "The answer is that Jordan Peterson is tailor-made to our political moment. His reactionary politics and talents as a public speaker combine to be a perfect fit for YouTube and the right-wing media, where videos of conservatives “destroying” weak-minded liberals routinely go viral. Peterson’s denunciations of identity politics and political correctness are standard-issue conservative, but his academic credentials make his pronouncements feel much more authoritative than your replacement-level Fox News commentator. (I reached out to Peterson; a spokesperson turned down my interview request.) Peterson is also particularly appealing to disaffected young men. He’s become a lifestyle guru for men and boys who feel displaced by a world where white male privilege is under attack; his new best-selling book, 12 Rules for Life, is explicitly pitched as a self-help manual, and he speaks emotionally of the impact his work has had on anxious, lost young men." another extract from that article.... "What happened in the fall of 2016 is that Peterson inserted himself into a national Canadian debate over transgender rights — specifically by refusing to refer to a student by their chosen gender pronouns. At the time, the Canadian parliament was considering something called Bill C-16, a bill banning discrimination against people on the basis of “gender identity” or “gender expression.” In September, Peterson released a series of YouTube videos attacking the bill as a grave threat to free speech rights. He said he would refuse to refer to transgender students by their preferred pronouns; separating gender and biological sex was, in his view, “radically politically correct thinking.” He argued that C-16 would lead to people like him being arrested. “If they fine me, I won’t pay it. If they put me in jail, I’ll go on a hunger strike. I’m not doing this,” Peterson said in an October 2016 TV interview. “I’m not using the words that other people require me to use. Especially if they’re made up by radical left-wing ideologues.” Experts on Canadian law said that Peterson was misreading the bill — that the legal standard for “hate speech” would require something far worse, like saying transgender people should be killed, to qualify for legal punishment. This is an early example of what would become a hallmark of Peterson’s approach as a public intellectual — taking inflammatory, somewhat misinformed stances on issues of public concern outside his area of expertise. But it worked for him. Peterson’s videos on C-16 and political correctness racked up more than 400,000 views on YouTube within about a month of posting. There were rallies both for and against Peterson in Toronto; he made the rounds on Canadian television". While he obviously mis-interpreted these new changes in Canadian law, for his own benefits I have no doubt, personally in some circumstances I do see political correctness, sometimes being taken into the realms of stupidity and totally inane.eg: Before I retired I was working for our national airline, when an edict came down from top management that manhole covers were not to be called manhole covers anymore...we were to use the term access holes covers. Our union, plus first line management simply laughed at it, and ignored it totally. Nothing anymore was ever mentioned about it and whether a person called it an access hole or manhole was his choice. That apparent similarity in his and my view on politicl correctness, does not alter my overall view of this man and his politics in general, as totally abhorent to me.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. In relatively recent times, we had a case in Sydney where a good samaritan stopped to help a woman with car trouble. He spent time getting her going again, she thanked him [they embraced quickly] then went to the Police and had him charged with assault. He spent 2 weeks in jail, lost his job, his marriage ended and then she admitted she made a false claim.... https://www.news.com.au/national/nsw-act/courts-law/caitlyn-gray-in-court-over-accusing-good-samaritan-of-indecent-assault-stalking/news-story/6afe58fe6bff5f65b302778ae3d5f48d https://www.news.com.au/national/nsw-act/courts-law/caitlyn-gray-sentenced-for-knowingly-making-a-false-statement-against-kenan-basic/news-story/4a4c9cae521751b9a5c58a05d2ad8b32 IMO she got off way to lightly.

Agreed. I mentioned earlier I don't need self control to be a courteous respectful male. But I must admit that I certainly need a heap of self control, when I see toxic behaviour in all its forms, even though its obvious [at my age] that I would be getting in over my head If I did resort to violence.

Bingo! Who wasn't? Well some certainly, but like you I may have also have thrown that first punch. I once had this big blonde give me a slap on the arse! 😁 I didn't call security or punch her though. I hope god forgave her for her temerity.😉

I have only heard JP twice and since this thread, read more on him. My dislike of him, stems from his archaic views and rhetoric over a wide range of the political and societal spectrum, rather then just his "real men" nonsense. Again, not sure though I totally agree with your masculinity concept in all respects. What I'm saying is that one can be masculine and still be a courtious male. Let me give a real life example. Around 4 or 5 years ago, I decided for the sake of the environment to use my car less and more of public transport. Anyway I hopped onto a bus to go to one of our old boys reunions and sat down. Eventually the bus got packed and people were standing. A woman around 40ish hopped on and I immediatley stood up and offered her my seat...something I learnt to do as a good young Christian lad. She was astounded and at first wouldn't accept it. Eventually she sat down and she remarked that she had never ever had that happen before and thanked me for my kindness. To me it was nothing, although much older then her, and something that I impulsively just did. Let me offer another real life example of not only a lack of masculinity, but a lack of sympathy and reasoanble kindness as well. A few years ago while waiting to cross a busy thoroughfare I noticed on the other side of the street, a woman in a wheelchair. Eventually the walk sign started to flash and as I commneced to cross, I noticed her in her wheelchair, caught and tilted slightly in the gutter and unable to move. 5 so called men and a couple of women simply brushed by her without offerring any assistance for her predicament, until two indigenous rather large ladies, grabbed her wheelchair, one either side, and lifted it and carried it all the way across. I then meeting them halfway offerred more assistance and congratulated both girls. I would think the best way out of that would be to approach your Mrs and make some excuse to drag her away. If he persisted during the course of the night, and the woman was visibly uncomfortable and had expressed being uncomfortable with his advances, then I might try engaging him in deep conversation and letting the Mrs off the hook, so to speak. If he was drunk, then we may have a problem on hand and security would be the obvious step. In saying that, and if he actually insulted or assaulted the woman [drunk or sober] then this may trigger an undesired, impulsive but expected action by the husband. I acted impulsively yesterday. While shopping at my local supermarket, wearing a face mask and practising social distancing, I was in the meat department picking out a leg of lamb for a Sunday roast. Then this woman brushed beside me, also after some lamb, and as I looked up, I see she also had no mask on...Impusivley and being quite annoyed I said aloud, ' WTF!! wears your mask Lady? she gave me the finger and I quickly moved away [having regained some self control] and went straight to a supervisor. As the female supervisor spoke to her, she became aggresive and security was called and she was thrown out without her leg of lamb. I then received an apology for the slip up in allowing her in, in the first place.

A photon does not experience time nor distance. It can traverse the universe in an instant from its frame of reference. While that may sound on face value illogical, the secret lies in the notion that time and space are linked, and "c" is invariable or constant. Albert and SR tell us that The closer you get to "c" the less time passes for you and distances get shorter. At "c" both time and distance reach zero. One of our physicists maybe able to explain further.

Thought I would check out his view on covid 19.................... https://www.news.com.au/world/coronavirus/australia/police-state-dr-jordan-peterson-slams-australias-approach-to-covid/news-story/215493ad731f07b2cd4669bffc3014e9 Police state’: Dr Jordan Peterson calls out Australia’s approach to Covid The divisive psychologist has argued Covid presents a “relatively low risk” and is less dangerous than Australia being governed by a “police state”. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Then I found this..................... https://www.theaustralian.com.au/inquirer/the-mysterious-rise-and-fall-of-jordan-peterson/news-story/be72e5ecc722a109ec5ee9d959cd28eb What the hell happened to Jordan Peterson? Jordan Peterson has turned out to be the self-help guru unable to help himself. extract: That said, he did while in Australia display curious, even troubling behaviours. The obsessive diet, for example. Peterson was eating only meat. Literally only meat, salt and water, to the point where he had taken to carrying a zip-lock bag filled with cold steak on his person, in case he was caught short somewhere without access to meat. He was also keeping an insane schedule — multiple interviews, flights and shows every day — which left him fatigued. Peterson disappeared from public life soon after leaving Australia. Rumours as to the state of his health since then are legion: he became addicted to prescription painkillers (true); he had to go to detox (true); he’s had pneumonia (true); suffered neurological damage (true); he’s got problems with his relationship with his adored son (true); he contracted COVID-19 (also true.) https://phys.org/news/2021-10-nobel-prize-physics-awarded-scientists.html Physics Nobel rewards work on complex systems, like climate Secretary General of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences Goran Hansson, center, flanked at left by member of the Nobel Committee for Physics Thors Hans Hansson, left, and member of the Nobel Committee for Physics John Wettlaufer, right, announces the winners of the 2021 Nobel Prize in Physics at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, in Stockholm, Sweden, Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021. The Nobel Prize for physics has been awarded to scientists from Japan, Germany and Italy. Syukuro Manabe and Klaus Hasselmann were cited for their work in "the physical modeling of Earth's climate, quantifying variability and reliably predicting global warming". The second half of the prize was awarded to Giorgio Parisi for "the discovery of the interplay of disorder and fluctuations in physical systems from atomic to planetary scales." Credit: Pontus Lundahl/TT via AP Three scientists won the Nobel Prize in physics Tuesday for work that found order in seeming disorder, helping to explain and predict complex forces of nature, including expanding our understanding of climate change. Syukuro Manabe, originally from Japan, and Klaus Hasselmann of Germany were cited for their work in developing forecast models of Earth's climate and "reliably predicting global warming." The second half of the prize went to Giorgio Parisi of Italy for explaining disorder in physical systems, ranging from those as small as the insides of atoms to the planet-sized. Hasselmann told The Associated Press that he "would rather have no global warming and no Nobel Prize.'' Manabe said that figuring out the physics behind climate change was "1,000 times" easier than getting the world to do something about it. He said the intricacies of policy and society are far harder to fathom than the complexities of carbon dioxide interacting with the atmosphere, which then changes conditions in the ocean and on the land, which then alters the air again in a constant cycle. He called climate change "a major crisis." The prize comes less than four weeks before the start of high-level climate negotiations in Glasgow, Scotland, where world leaders will be asked to ramp up their commitments to curb global warming. more at link.................

I've been trying to think of a good analogy to illustrate where I am coming from...Firstly, no I absolutely do not hold any man as unaccountable for disresptectful actions and simply blaming, "being a man"...absolutely not! The previous debate we had with regards to larrikinism and that as generally meant in Australia is akin to the following...If you and I were having a few beers together, I may for example when you were not looking, stick a little look-alike plastic fly in your beer. I did this to a bloke many years ago...he turned around, saw the fly, emptied his beer on the footpath, swore, and ordered another beer. The rest of us pissed ourselves laughing, although I lost my plastic fly! 😉That is being a larrikin in Australia. Or perhaps if we were to be away on a camp, or rooming together, and when you were out doing something, I "short sheeted" your bed, and had a good chuckle later that evening watching you trying to get under the covers! That is the definition of a larrikin in Australia.😉 Some may also called such behaviour and similar, as being a clown. But the point is that more often then not, many behave like that where I am, and of both sexes in actual fact. None of that need equate to the "qualities" and misogynistic sexist behaviour of this Peterson bloke, or our new NSW Premier. Some as you say most certainly yes, not all. Other then that, I value your opinon on this forum on most subjects.
-
I treat women as I treat all people..equal, fair and with respect. It doesn't need any control. The same applied to Bob Hawke. And no certainly not all "larrikins" or men acting like the sterio type male, are respectful. If that was what I conveyed, then blame my poor vocabulary. I'm saying simply that being a larrikin does not necessarily mean disrespect, sexism, misogyny or any of the udesired traits towards any human, as I listed with NSW new Premier. Sometimes it does, yes, just as sometimes a haughty, poshy conservative Catholic can be a misogynist or also more refined and progressive in his or her thinking. The previous Premier, a female named Galdys Berijiklian, while being on the right, was also progressive in her thinking and opposite to the conservative nut we now have. Just a shame she was being investigated by the ICAC and her tendancy towards corruption.

It now seems certain NSW will be out of lockdown Monday 11th and Victoria soon to follow, despite those riots turning into a super-spreading event, just as the science predicted. Our vaccination rates are now approaching the 70% mark with two doses and exceeds 80% single doses. Good news. Got a meal booked already at my local Roosters football club for Saturday week, and a old boys pissup before then hopefully!

I also dislike near all of what he has had to say...in fact going on the couple of rare times I have listened to him, I disagree on all he has had to say. My only proviso with your above is that "sometimes" men really cannot help themselves in being men, or more correctly larrikinism, but that does not always equate to having to cotrol themselves around women. Having personally being labelled a larrikin [I actually see it as more an easy going attitude with an Aussie undertone] I have absolutely no trouble in treating women as equal and withall the respect that I give any human being...at least until they give me reason to retract that respect, be that men or women. Couldn't agree more!! In Australia as a personal example, we have a PM who sees the need to lock up children as illegal immigrants, and does it with some sort of pride... https://www.sydneycriminallawyers.com.au/blog/morrison-confirms-innocent-children-will-remain-in-detention/...while flaunting in the limelight of his Sunday escapades with his favourite church And even closer to home, our Premier of NSW, or actually former Premier, has been forced to resign after investigations commenced with our ICAC [Independent Commision Against Corruption] and has been replaced with a church going conservative Catholic, named Dominic Perrottet, who abhores gay people, who hates abortions, and has opposed laws in our country to force priests to disclose child abuse confessions. He has also in the past, claimed that Australia's realsitic welfare payments are far to generous and often leads to rising divorce rates and single parent families. One can only hope that at our state elections next year, that the electorate recognises the hate and bigotry dripping from this bloke's mouth, and gives him his just desserts and throws him and his party out on their ear. No, I havn't yet heard his opinions on Perterson as yet, but his bigotry certainly appears to align with his.

I asked you a question, previously and purposely...this one.... You see myself and my wife have and still use that orginization to sponsor two children. I prefer that more practical way of helping to alleviate some of the world's political problems, rather then rhetoric alone. No, I listen, or rather read all your questions, but as I said, I like those questions put directly, not in parables supported by quotes from a book based on myth.

That's nice😏 tip: Try: answering questions and making statements more directly. That's because the status quo is often right...not exclusively, but a good proportion thereof. Sometimes what individuals see as "authoritarian" by any particular government, is simply an attempt by said government to protect or service the much greater majority.eg: The mandatory vaccinations against covid in certain industries to protect that greater majority, and the lockdowns around the world at different times, to again protect that much greater majority. My status quo is generally in line with that greater majority...not exclusively, but mostly. You seem unsure of yourself. That's nice. tip: see my first comment. ??? Sorry, you have lost me. Perhaps if you refer back to my first comment? Ahhh, OK, Let me be more precise....we, humanity, mostly learn from our mistakes. That includes what is generally seen as the status quo.eg: The early and mid part of the 20th century, saw many aspects of human society that was the norm, or the status quo...smoking was seen as the norm...guess what? I have never in my life had a cigarette, to my mouth...why? just never saw any sense to it. ..and that also includes what is commonly called a joint. I could mention many more including our now "taken for granted" universal health scheme, which prior to 1972 was non existent. In general too far to the left or right, is extremism and undesirable and always will be. Yes, there are periods in mankind's role on this fart arse little blue orb, where society in general was controlled by authoritarian and evil aspects of that society.eg: the middle ages, spanish inquisition and control by the church...slavery, racism and the American civil war, and more recently, the evil of Nazism and Hitler. But thankfully, we have now rose above such inequality, mostly, but not exclusively. The best we can do is keep working towards that end and helping where we can Ever heard of world vision? In essence, both you and I [despite covid 19, lockdowns, mandatory vaccinations etc] live in reasonable circumstances, where we are still able to throw out tyrants and ratbags like Trump...not perfect, but a reasonable facsimile thereof.

No I don't necessarilly subsribe to that position. If I can use another answer to help, this would be it.............

With the greatest of humility, I submit my first answer to this on page one............
