https://phys.org/news/2021-04-whitest-hereand-coolest-literally.html The whitest paint is here—and it's the coolest. Literally: In an effort to curb global warming, Purdue University engineers have created the whitest paint yet. Coating buildings with this paint may one day cool them off enough to reduce the need for air conditioning, the researchers say. In October, the team created an ultra-white paint that pushed limits on how white paint can be. Now they've outdone that. The newer paint not only is whiter but also can keep surfaces cooler than the formulation that the researchers had previously demonstrated. "If you were to use this paint to cover a roof area of about 1,000 square feet, we estimate that you could get a cooling power of 10 kilowatts. That's more powerful than the central air conditioners used by most houses," said Xiulin Ruan, a Purdue professor of mechanical engineering. The researchers believe that this white may be the closest equivalent of the blackest black, "Vantablack," which absorbs up to 99.9% of visible light. The new whitest paint formulation reflects up to 98.1% of sunlight—compared with the 95.5% of sunlight reflected by the researchers' previous ultra-white paint—and sends infrared heat away from a surface at the same time. extract: What makes the whitest paint so white Two features give the paint its extreme whiteness. One is the paint's very high concentration of a chemical compound called barium sulfate which is also used to make photo paper and cosmetics white. more at link..................

Sure it is, no argument on that. The points are that it would be difficult and take much much longer, and I'm not sure or qualified to say it could be done with today's technologies.
-
That would mean terraforming, which takes millions of years.

Mostly I bypass documentaries on UFO's or UAP's as sensationalistic junk...mostly, not all. I will certainly try and watch this particular doco, as I have just watched a preview. As I have said previously, and as the question was answered in that preview, yes, some of the more notable unexplained sightings should be thoroughly investigated, by all means at our disposal. I see it is on "Prime Video" if not I will certainly get my Son, who is educated and learned in IT, to get it for me. In saying that, my built in cynicism and sceptism, keeps telling me and asking me the many questions I have mentioned in this thread, as to why they, visiting Aliens [if they exist] do not make their visitation official.
-
I believe the only methodology to achieve what is suggested in the OP, is terraforming, and I have seen reputable time periods of millions of years for that to take place, if it is at all possible.

Read his book, "Hyperspace" about the possibility of higher dimensions, in an effort to unite quantum mechanics and GR...Interesting read, although it has been around 15 years? since I did read it. -

Personally, I quiet like Neal DeGrasse-Tyson, not that such a subjective opinion, has any real bearing on whether he was right or wrong. Physicists such as Neal, Brian Cox, Brian Greene, Bill Nye, Richard Dawkins, Lawrence Krauss, the late great Carl Sagan, have done much to bring science to the masses. On that they should be supported. Yes sometimes their brevity in describing something may by some, be labeled as "pop sciencey", but by the same token, I would remind those few of the words and narrative of the following, that I have posted a few times before. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1lL-hXO27Q -
I'll see if I can get a couple of photos of some impressive dovetail joints I made and a couple of housing joints. 😉 Well done, both of you!!

Perhaps you should go back and read the relevent post again. The facts that the universe is near infinite in extent[just a phrase of mine, you can say extraordinarily large beyond any comprehension if you prefer] , and near infinte in content [numbers of stars and planets also extraordinarily large beyond comprehension] along with the facts that the stuff of life is everywhere we look, gives us every reason to believe abiogenesis should/could have also taken place elsewhere, off this Earth. Those are facts that have plenty of reputable scientists accepting that we are "probably "not alone". None of that is the extraordinary evidence required to validate for certain, that life exists elsewhere. We don't know. In actual fact this is what I actually posted If that contradicts your hypothesis [not a theory] then so be it. Not closed minded, simply scientifically minded and reafirming what Carl Sagan said. "extraordinary claims, require extraordinary evidence". And of course as I also said, the small percentage that remain as unexplained, are just that unexplained and could be any number of scenarios, as I also mentioned, including, yes, Aliens. But guess what? We dont really know. PS: I also in general reject conspiracies and those pushing conspiracies, and reject any nonsense of an anti gravity machine as it also lacks any evidence to support that claim. -
Impressive.

The laser, which will be fired from the Mt Stromlo Observatory in Canberra, has been seven years in the making. more at link.............. and https://phys.org/news/2021-04-video-earth-orbit-space-debris.html extract: There are currently over 129 million objects larger than a millimeter in orbits around Earth. Perhaps by some. And perhaps, the facts that so many reported sightings, kidnappings, anal probings etc, by less then reputable sources, could have "biased" the view/s of some scientists. Again, personally I have not made a study or really researched any of this subject, but two cases do seem extraordinary without any real explanation....the Nimitz tic tac one, and another in Africa somewhere involving some school children, the landing of some craft and emerging of little green men. What are your views on these two? and do you have any other worthy of unbiased total scientific inquiry? -

And that is my position with regards to a small number. And taking that position means I'm not going to get all excited over any "doubtful" visitations. Two points I would like to make...I would dearly love for evidence to be found of some form of extra terrestrial life before I kick the bucket...no matter how basic or fundamental.eg: microbial. Second point casts doubt in my mind that we have been visited, in that such species would be far in advance of us, so as to understand that we are not analogous to ants on an anthill, so why the continued flittering in and flittering out again, with the ocassional anal probing of some poor out of the way individual. Obviously they would not really "want" for anything either, as anything here is rather plentiful throughout the galaxy/universe. Also interesting is that a good proportion of reputable scientists believe that the evidence for extra terrestrial life is not that far away. I hope they are right. I'm all for complete scientific inquiry into that percenatge that remain as UFO, obviously also as reported by reputable individuals and intrigueing and unexplained evidence that tend to support it. But also while not an expert in this area, I would have presumed that such inquiry/investigations have taken place. The known existence of any extra terrestrial life, would answer probably the greatest, most asked, most extraordinary question, ever asked by mankind. As such I see it logical to conclude and align with Carl Sagan's approach that such extraordinary claims, require equally extraordinary evidence. eg: an Alien artifact, some Alien excreta, Alien mechanical part, etc etc. -

Paradox of visual and actual positions in space.

You think so? Why? Calculating distances to the Sun is actually easy and done via triangulation. More distant objects use a variety of methods including Ceiphed variables and other standard candles. -
https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap210328.html SuitSat-1: A Spacesuit Floats Free Image Credit: ISS Expedition 12 Crew, NASA Explanation: A spacesuit floated away from the International Space Station 15 years ago, but no investigation was conducted. Everyone knew that it was pushed by the space station crew. Dubbed Suitsat-1, the unneeded Russian Orlan spacesuit filled mostly with old clothes was fitted with a faint radio transmitter and released to orbit the Earth. The suit circled the Earth twice before its radio signal became unexpectedly weak. Suitsat-1 continued to orbit every 90 minutes until it burned up in the Earth's atmosphere after a few weeks. Pictured, the lifeless spacesuit was photographed in 2006 just as it drifted away from space station. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Am I right having a bit of a giggle, or is this setting a bad example about useless space debris albeit for a few weeks?

Life certainly without doubt exists in this Universe.😉 We have no evidence that any such device is possible, nor whether it exists. Whereas with life beyond Earth, the general logic that it should exist is of course the near infinite extent of the universe, the near infinite content of the universe [stars, planets] and the stuff of life being everywhere we look. If conditions are right, evolution of life may have taked place elsewhere. Certainly not the extraordinary evidence we would like to 100% convince us, but plenty of reason. UFO's are just that...UFO's with the emphasis on "Unidentified" Of course out of the thousands of reported UFO's, most have been scientifically explained, leaving a small percentage remaining as unidentified. Venus, comet/meteor, trickery/skull duggery, illusions, mirages, weather phenomena, sprites clouds etc etc......or yes, even Aliens. But essentially just unidentified. The two biggest barriers against any supposed Alien visitation, are of course time and distance. -

Most scientists understand that life, at various degrees of evolution, would more then likely exist beyond this Earth. At the same time, those scientists understand that at this time, we still have no evidence of any life off this Earth, or any past visitations of ETL. A great man once said, "extraordinary claims, require extraordinary evidence" -
And obviously unscientific to boot. Which raises the question, will we evolve to better handle the harsh conditions of weightlessness for example? In relation to the above question I put, I remember a lecture by the late, great Professor Stephen Hawking at the White House, entitled the second millenium lectures. Here is an excerpt from that lecture.... "The rate of increase of DNA complexity gradually rose to about one bit a year over the last few million years. But now we are at the beginning of a new era in which we will be able to increase the complexity of our DNA without having to wait for the slow process of biological evolution. There has been no significant change in human DNA in the last ten thousand years. But it is likely that we will be able to completely redesign it in the next thousand. Of course many people will say that genetic engineering on humans should be banned. But I rather doubt if they will be able to prevent it. Genetic engineering on plants and animals will be allowed for economic reasons and someone is bound to try it on humans. Unless we have a totalitarian world order, someone will design improved humans somewhere. Clearly developing improved humans will create great social and political problems with respect to unimproved humans. I'm not advocating human genetic engineering as a good thing, I'm just saying that it is likely to happen in the next millennium, whether we want it or not. This is why I don't believe science fiction like Star Trek where people are essentially the same four hundred years in the future. I think the human race, and its DNA, will increase its complexity quite rapidly". In a way the human race needs to improve its mental and physical qualities if it is to deal with the increasingly complex world around it and meet new challenges like space travel. more .... from https://clintonwhitehouse4.archives.gov/Initiatives/Millennium/shawking.html

Not sure if the two older brothers would have done much, even without me there. Perhaps a push, shove, slap on the back of the head. Both turned out as reasonable citizens without any real problems, afaik, and I have had a beer with one of them since those days. They were only 13/14 year old at the time anyway. Sure, maybe their parents could have sat down with them, explaining the outcome of bullying and its general rejection in a normal society. I venture to say we/they probably all have some regrets when looking back at certain happenings in hindsight.
-
The object of course had nothing to do with winning any fight. It was primarilly to stand up to continued bullying, albeit being egged on by older kids that maybe should have known better. And yes, of course things may have been different, but remember, we are talking of 3 to 4 year olds. I think the chances of anyone being seriously hurt was minimal at best, due to their ages, and since it occured on a grass medium strip. The only real repercussions was a couple of old fashion wacks around the backside for the two older brothers by their Father, after I explained what had been happening. Yes it all could have turned out differently and yes I could also have simply approached his parents when the bullying was happening. It may also have been a reflection of similar bullying tactics when I was a kid, and the victim of said bullying. It was when I was about 10 years old and I was leaving the school yard proudly displaying my brand new Coca Cola badge on my lapel, a rage with all the kids at that time. When the "school bully" approached me, ripped the badge off me, and threw it up on the church confessional roof [I was a good little Catholic boy in those days 😉] I was totally enraged and swung my globite suit case to the side of his head. He was stunned momentarily and before he had time to regain his senses [he was a big bugger!] the school teacher grabbed him and me, and frog marched us to the Principal's office. I was first called in to explain my actions and the graze on the side of my opponents head. Not much was said and I was given a pat on the head and told to get home straight away, instead of as I was thinking, getting the strap. Corporal punishment was of course the thing in those days and his [my opponent] bullying reputation was well known by all. Not sure what happened to him, but he never ever bothered me again.

I gave iNow a tick of approval. But I do have a situation to relate that I believe to be relevant. When my young bloke was about 3 or 4 years old, we had just moved into the house we now still own and live in. Three houses down was another family who had been there for a few years who had another little boy about the same age, who had two older brothers around 13 or 14 years old. My Son and Andrew [the other little bloke] generally got on well together and played with each other as kids do. Except for the occasions his two older brothers would egg him on to hit my young bloke. This happened four or five times, and my Son would come inside crying. My wife would tell him to just walk away and turn the other cheek in true christian like fashion, while after the first couple of times, it greatly annoyed me. On one of those occasions I grabbed my Son after he had come inside crying and asked what had happened. I had though actually observed it. With his Mother away I told my Son that the next time Andrew hit him, to hit him back as hard as he could! Sure enough around a couple of hours latter, my boy was out playing again, with Andrew, and I noticed the two older brothers in Andrew's ear. Andrew then walked up to my boy and hit him. My Son took an almighty swing and hit Andrew back, putting him on his arse! As his two older brothers started to approach I walked outside and made my presence known and the two older brothers turned tail with the young Andrew who was in tears and went inside to their parents. The ending of this tale of bullying as I saw it, is that now more then 35 years later, my Son and Andrew are still the best of mates [my boy was best man at his wedding] and his parents were great friends of ours and still are. Was this a form of justice? revenge? punishment? an eye for an eye? Or just an example of how sometimes standing up for one's self, can have a pleasing ending.
