Weight is a measure of the force (of attraction) experienced by a body on Earth (or other planet). Because of the rotational speed of the Earth this force is a combination of the gravitational attraction and the centripetal force due to the rotation. Since the radius of rotation varies from point to point on the Earth the net force of attraction varies. This difference can be measured with suitably sensitive instruments. It is much large than the sort of difference that occurs due to mass changes because of heat energy, chemical reactions and and so on. Difference types of 'weighing' machines measure either mass or force so a spring balance will disagree with a beam balance. That is why I asked the question.

From this post and because it is clear that you are missing things other say to you I am going to assume your ability to produce written English is better than your ability to understand it. Yes Lucy generated much speculation. But there is also verified hard data. The assertion that there is no other evidence is untrue. I posted reference to new information, published very very recently. The remains found included a complete skull. You have ignored this new evidence. I don't understand this. Whilst I understand that there is a long held hypothesis that "apes came down from the trees to the grasslands" I also understand that the anatomical evidence does not support this. Again I ask those better informed than I to add in to this particular point. No it is not speculation, it is one of the few facts we can be sure of. By definition there are few trees on the savannah If there were lots of trees then it would be something else such as forest or jungle.

Thank you for the reply. B-T does include time implicitly in that it the unfolding process does not destroy each copy as it is made so they must exist simultaneously. How about my glass of water?
-
I made no assumptions, but offered you both evidence and discovery. If that is all you have to say about it, good luck.
-
How would you weigh it?

Part of the scientific process is considering and comparing alternative hypotheses Here is an alternative hypothesis. We know that we are descended from smaller members of the ape (?any biologist correct me if this wrong) family. Within the last week, The BBC has reported the oldest ancestor yet found at 3.6 million years ago, in Ethiopia. Previous ancestors, eg 'Lucy' were also found in sub Saharan east Africa. This was no a jungle by savannah. There were/are few trees on the savannah to climb to see further (spotting predators) So perhaps our ancestor stood up to raise the viewpoint? It is also known that our vision is developed for standing upright, as compared to ancestors that has cranial arrangements more like quadrupeds.

The pop up box reports me as "Viewing Forms Index", when I'm actually making the tea. Can this coding oversight be corrected?
-
I suppose that depends upon your definition of the operator + I agree it can be reversible for some mathematical objects since the reverse involves superposition. Two or more congruent mathematical objects such as triangles or balls can be superposed to end up with one mathematical copy of the object. Physical objects present more of a difficulty as most times two physical objects cannot occupy the same space. But what about two part glasses of water? Pour one into the other and you have one part glass of water.

Consider the filter capacitor of a DC power supply where the load is fixed and drawing a steady current that therefore has a constant value. The current into said capacitor spikes very like the EMP that was being argued about earlier, yet, on average it produces a steady constant value. Would you call the input 'constant' ? You said "Magnetic effects are brought about by time variation." I did, but you also quoted all that I said wherein I detailed several ways in which the field might vary one was indeed in time, the other was in space. So that is what I said. Though I agree the wording could have been better. Thank you to whoever liked my original input. I rather felt the OP was receiving a pedantic hard time with some rather questionable definitions. I was trying to make it as easy for him as I could. I am sorry if I over simplified but as can now be seen the isuue of 'constant' is not clear cut.
-
So would you say that you can have a constant alternating current?
-
This variation of terminology is probably part of the reason why so many pupils are turned off Physics at school. Different teachers telling them conflicting things tends to do that. How would you describe the output of a half wave rectifier, with no filter? Would you call it DC ? Would you say it is time varying? Would you say it is constant? Would you say it is steady? How would you describe the observation that every complete cycle the measurement would be the same. Would you call this constant? You said "Magnetic effects are brought about by time variation." Yes this shows that I, too , should be more careful with terminology.
-
(A) Sorry by my points stand. Yes the mag field is proportional to the current so what? I did not say otherwise. But constant current means only that the current doe not change regardless of the voltage. You can have a constant current that changes with time. You can even buy CC power supplies to achieve this. That is how LED dimmers work. I am sure that the correct term is steady current for a current that does not change with time. (B) That is what I said (c) There are classical models that consider the field of a permanent magnet as due to charge carrier motion. I agree there are also more refined modern ones.
-
Again the term is steady not static. 'Static' magnetic fields have a special meaning relating to machinery, to distinguish between moving parts. All magnetic fields are generated by moving charges, even those in permanent magnets which have steady fields.
-
Yes the correct term for a current that does not change with time is a steady current. A constant current is a horse of a different colour entirely. Currents are concentrated phenomena, fields are distributed phenomena. Magnetic effects are brought about by time variation. Either the current is time varying in which case the field varies in sympathy. or the field is non uniform, although steady. In which case the time element is brought about by motion from one part of the field to a different part where the field is different.

The converse is also true. There are parts of Physics (and other scientific disciplines) that are not in Maths.

Most laptops have an easily removable panel or panels underneath to allow acces to the memory and the wificard (and perhaps other hardware) This means you should not have to dissamble the (clam)shell, which I would not recommend to the inexperienced. Can you post a photo of the underside for us to identify the panel for you? The mere act of disconnecting the antenna from the circuitry will disable the ability of the circuitry to send and receive signals. Soldering will not be required since this disconnection is required for more elaborate disassembly so plugs are invariably used. The same goes for other interwired hardware, microphones, speakers, cameras, auxiliary circuit boards and so on. Clumsy discoonection of all these can lead to serious damage. Finally if you think someone is accessing your pc over a local wifi then visit a friend (say 50 miles away) and test to see if this happens there. Any hacker would not be able to track you to your friends.

Is sodium chlorate now also banned in the US? It has been banned in Europe for nearly 10 years, but was very effective when used properly. How long is the fence? An ecological solution for domestic action is to pour boiling water over the weeds every time you wash out a pan or cook something.
-
The antenna connections are just pull off. It won't work without these plugged in, whether the wifi is onboard or a separate plug in card. But, if it is not a stupid question, how do you get online without it to say post on ScienceFourms?
-
That shoud be your starting point. Just remove the wifi card and / or unplug the internal antenna. Then you can check if really happened.

When I first found this stuff it used to say Cheddar, though it is not made in Somerset. I see they now have a 'smoked' version. Have a nice day
-
Thanks everbody for your responses. I quite like the high protein (37%), low fat (3%) cheddar. Don't know if the Americans have anything like that?

It is a pity for your hypothesis that it is at variance with too many observations in the real world. As I understand what you have said, you are hypothesising that electrical charges do not actually exist. Electrical effects are actually some sort of chnage in spacetime. So how do you account for the difference in repulsion between a proton and another proton and the repulsion between a proton and a neutron? Both have essentially the same mass, so why is there a difference in this 'spactime effect' ? You also seem to be suggesting that mass somehow plays a role in electrical effects. Again that is against common experience. Two platinum ions exert exactly the same mutual repulsive force as two hydrogen ions. You say that your article explains the dynamical effects of electricity. How do you explain the other startling difference from gravity? Viz the ability of a moving charge to interact with its own field. In other words I don't see an explanation of Lenz / Faraday's laws or 'back EMF' Finally I would like a proper response to / discussion of my comment on your diagram 2

Great example +1. Interesting example. Sort of harps back the the Ancient Greeks' idea that although say a sugar cube must contain the points of a perfect circle, no perfect circle exists in Nature. Similarly most of their maths was plane geometry, although no plane exists in Nature. Both are 'ideals' in their sense.

Your fig 2 implies something dramatically different from current theory. It seems to imply a position of (possibly unstable) equilibrium where m1 and m2 (should that not be q1 and q2 for chrage ?) actually touch! By the way make your images jpegs not pngs. The point of a word doc is that you can past the doc directly into the entry editor here.
