If you could be God for a while what would your first acts be?
too-open-minded replied to Alan McDougall's topic in Religion
I think religious differences has a lot to do with why America is at war with the middle east. -
Well the thing is that photons do have mass just not at rest. Your both right. Swansont, I read a book called Five equations that changed the world. The book said that Einstein got his Nobel prize for the thing about photons I talked about. I'm sorry if my reference is wrong and not credible.
-
Still theoretically the wave would travel forever if their was nothing in its way right?
-
Einstein won his Nobel prize in physics for this. Was his math wrong? Anything with mass rest that travels the speed of light by his calculations would grow to be the size of the universe. Photons do have mass but only because they are in motion. Anything in motion gains energy and mass. Although Einstein proved newton wrong, somewhat. More along the lines of building off of newton. Maybe someone will build off Einstein. Gravity used to be an attraction between all bodies with mass, now its more of a distortion in space-time from bodies with mass. Even gravity is still just a theory. Everything is not set in stone but Einstein was a brilliant man and I'm going to go with what he said before anybody else lol. Along with the topic, I wouldn't have the slightest idea. Even if we did get to going light-speed in a spaceship. Would the spaceship grow to the size of the universe like Einstein said, or would something else even crazier happen?

I know i'm generalizing two groups of people and breaking it down to the individual we will get varying results on both sides. Lets talk about this from the average population standpoint. An agnostic generally believes that full knowledge on the subject of god is not attainable. If their is a god were not going to understand it. A christian believes that God created man and sent his son or "human form" down to earth to teach man about his presence. Christians have a religious text called the bible. They believe that god, jesus, and other holy men have their teachings written down in this text and having faith that this text proves gods existence. So believing in Jesus and gods word, you have faith. Agnostics don't have any evidence of god nor need any to be open to the existence of god. On a side note - I know their are some christians who don't agree with the bible and some agnostics who are more on the atheist side.

I would smite religion. -
Why can't people just be agnostic? Theists claim their faith is one of their strongest things. I believe their could be a god without even need proof. I believe if their is a god, its something our brains aren't going to comprehend. It would be greater something than like us, the whole concept we are made in gods image. I don't need proof or evidence of god nor do I think I could grasp the slightest notion of its existence if it does exist. Sounds like faith to me.

I'm guessing that eventually religion as it is today, will be a thing of the past. With the majority of people being atheist and the minority being agnostic. What I don't like about the bible is that it implies you shouldn't be bad so you aren't punished and can be awarded if your good. That is stupid. You should be good because it makes you feel good and should not do bad because it makes you feel bad. Humanity does not need a religion to teach a person morals. If someone is going to help or hurt others they will do so regardless of their religion, Hitler was a catholic. In fact, I think religion makes people more hostile towards each-other. Jesus is the most quoted prophet in the Koran, these religions have more in common than they do differently and yet religious differences still has a lot to do with why we fight each-other.

How far will we progress toward human physical immortality
too-open-minded replied to Alan McDougall's topic in Genetics
Their would be no such thing as a seniors discount -
Thankyou man. So being that they have less energy, are the photons more spread out?
-
I look at some peoples profiles and see their reputation is really negative. Then I wonder what they must have said if my reputation isn't negative lol.

Nobody has really answered my question yet lol

How does the processing work?

Fate of the human race as it looks right now.
too-open-minded replied to too-open-minded's topic in Speculations
You are very right iNow, although our biggest problem right now is even being able to leave the planet. Lets get A straight before we worry about B. I mean lets think about energy here for a second, we know of (or atleast I can think of one way) of harnessing energy rather than by means of kinetic. Are we really going to leave our planet with a combustion engine or even a fission powered turbine? We really need to start trying to look at energy from every possible angle but still try and improve what we already have. -

Sex and drugs, yeah man i've learned my lesson with that. Sex with somebody you don't care about just leaves you with this empty feeling and drugs really just take you away from reality. I'm a recovering addict, partly the reason I never payed attention in school. Although i'm sure their will still be mistakes to be made although I will learn from them rather than repeat them. Meh, i'm most interested in astronomy, cosmology, etc. Although this really isn't going to help humanity much. I guess when the time is right I will know what field to pursue. -

I hope so, i've also noticed everyone that tells me i'm intelligent or what not agrees with my views. To others i'm just an idiot lol. I am a pretty inquisitive person but don't put me on a pedestal Well see here is my problem with education, I don't know what field to go into. I'm guessing I should find the field that interests me most but what is everyone else's opinion on individual fields? What field do you think has the most potential to make leaps and bounds for humanity? -

Well i'm 18 and have a incomplete highschool education. I have some suggestions but none are concrete. Yes I understand your annoyance, most people whine but do nothing. They say our government is run by corporations then they shop at Walmart or eat Mcdonalds. I would say my best suggestion would be redoing the entire educational system, the most valuable time for the development of someones mind is when they are young. Why is this not taken advantage of in education? No, i'm not talking about brainwashing children. People seem to visualize that when I propose this idea. I'm speaking more on a level of emotional therapy, developing individual interest, and building self esteem for children rather then telling them what to think. Try to get them to preserve their imagination and curiosity. -

Yeah I got an idea, its called the theory of evolution. Lets try getting people to accept it. Hey nuclear fission is a pretty cool idea, lets try getting people to be more comfortable with it. Things are changing but very slowly, if they don't happen faster stuff could hit the fan. That's my point. People get annoyed because I point out some very dark things. I get annoyed because most pretend like they could never happen. If the world was in the palm of my hand, if I was making decisions. I would turn the educational system on its head, investing the most into the education and mental development of our youth. I would open new departments of research and labor so when we tried to make the transition to cleaner energy, people wouldn't go without a job. I would find the best field in science for me and pursue it to the fullest so I could make steps for humanity. Although this is why I feel like I might be better off just moving to Sweden, like iNow said about the self fulfilling prophecy. I don't want my ideals to screw up and put us in a worse position than we are now. I don't really know what to do, I have some ideas that might work but maybe's don't work well when dealing with something this big. It's not really worth it. What about you bignose? Do you have any ideas on how the world could be a better place? -

moontanman, I think the fate of the human race shouldn't happen. I want to see our species survive forever although the best we could probably do is sustain life in our local cluster of galaxies until they burn out and dark energy has made it impossible to travel to another galaxy. I really would like to see us sustain life in space, go about researching the cosmos and other planets. Looking for all the answers we don't have. Untill the day we just can't go anymore. Whether or not the fate of our species looks gloomy right now, we need to keep a level head with a compromise on the subject. The world does have many problems that don't need to be neglected. We can't pretend they aren't their and at the same time we need to stay positive because if we do lose hope, if we do start living for today instead of tomorrow. The problems i'm talking about could happen. I'm not saying today, but if we don't try and change things up at a faster rate than we are right now, in the future we very well could be dealing with population control. Let's not put that on our children. -
We really do need to try and change the way we live. If we stop caring about the future and put off trying to make it possible, our problems will become our children's. Don't put these things off, small change can have a big impact when lots of people are doing it.

Yeah I guess your right, personally I don't think theirs any outside source causing me to have no faith in the human race but their always could be a subconscious reason. These things really do bother me on a personal level. I do think the human race has a set course for self destruction and not just the human race but individuals if it does happen, are going to suffer from it. It really does pain me. I guess this thread has turned more into what I personally think and I do really appreciate everyone trying to reassure me that things are going to be okay. I see lots of problems but maybe in time with the problems I see in the future I could find ways to prevent these problems from happening (Not from cutting off peoples resources, I hate population control in that aspect.) I just, I really do worry about this. Not just for the human race but every individual on the planet right now. I am an optimist, I don't concentrate on the negative side of things. Although when dealing with something like this, I can't help but speak out about the negative side of things. iNow, thankyou very much for your input about economics and inflated money helping pay things off. It makes sense and i've never heard this argument before. I know the government is inflating the dollar, I just didn't know why. Your post truly has given me some faith and might help me sleep better at night. At the same time, don't forget the things I said. It could happen and if we just keep pretending that everything will be ok in the future, their might not be a future. We need to hope for the best but prepare for the worst. -

Okay the earths population is an estimated 7 billion, sorry. It's still going up at an accelerating rate. Yeah once an area is industrialized its population tends to slow down, but theirs lots of areas that are still on their way to that point. I mean I don't know much about the national economy let alone global. Just it seems like the U.S dollar is the worlds reserve currency, with countries wanting to move away from that. The U.S is the worlds consumer. Our own dollar has become inflated as it stands right now, what happens when the dollar loses global value? Thats just in America. How will the rest of the world work out if their used to being our consumer and we collapse and stop buying stuff. Their not deciding on one currency Thats the problem in a whole then if you look at money you see a physical representation of wealth being downsized. Getting smaller and smaller. At the same time theirs interest rates stacking up on things that haven't yet been paid for. We can't even pay off these interest rates yet were still spending. I mean.... Idk, I'm just so worried the human race isn't gonna make it. I don't want to contribute to our own demise. Living the average american lifestyle its hard to do that. Sigh... I know i'm not the first person to worry this. I know for the ages their have been people talking about the end of us. It just really looks like were setting ourselves up for destruction. I don't know if i'm better off being a hermit in the woods or trying to make steps for humanity along with society. So they can be rich once were all dead.... see that's what I don't understand. Its like people making money don't care about the individuals they are making money off of, they should. Its where their money is coming from. If they didn't plan on making money for very long, why would they care about the population? I'm just trying to make sense of this all, it looks like too big of problems to be caused by just greed and negligence. -
The universe and why 0 is impossible.
too-open-minded replied to too-open-minded's topic in Speculations
I'll be sure to give it a look. Beyond the universe is nothing. but is nothing really their? -
Right now to me, our fate is looking very dim. We have a population on 9 billion people with large parts of the world becoming industrialized. It was only about 200 years ago the the estimated population reached one billion, It has been going up an an accelerating rate ever sense. I don't know about you but the garbage I don't recycle gets thrown away and I do throw away a little bit every day. Theirs pollution not only in what is being thrown away but also in what is byproducts of manufacturing the very things that are thrown away. All the cars driving around may not be hurting the elements in our atmosphere but we are diluting the normal consistency of our atmosphere with carbon emissions. Going green is hard, were so dependent on oil and all the jobs that go into making the world go around can't just stop because we want to go green. Personally I don't think were going to make it off this planet. I don't think its going to be in my lifetime but I do think the human race is going to kill itself. I see some correlations in economics that scare me. The food industry is bad for our health which makes money for the medical industry. Profit is privatized, most the money goes to a few select people. Its correlations in economics like this that make me think their could be an "Illuminati." If their is, their either living the time of their life with no regard towards the survival of our species. Or their making all the profit they can before stuff hits the fan. It looks to me like stuff is going to hit the fan. Whether its intentional or not is what i'm wondering.

From what I get out of this, and I might be wrong. I have no knowledge of computers and only know about bits because of quantum computing. Regular computers use bits to process information. bits is binary code. Theirs a 1 and a 0. Those ones and zeros stack up to represent things. With qubits having a 0, 1, and a 2; now this reduces what stacks up to represent things. Codes are shorter. Processing doesn't take as long. Now theirs a 0, 1, 2 but what exactly are they representations of? If you measure a subatomic particle under certain conditions like temperature, we should be able to find some constants in their behavior in correlation to differences in their environment. We use these constants per change in environment to represent something. This way we literally have particles and atoms processing information and reducing the process time we have with binary code processing. Is that anything close?
