If your question is there any other place to explore by YOU, yes, Borneo, Celebes and it's neighboring islands.
II was born in one of these islands. I lived, as a boy, within the fringe of the jungle and a mile within civilization and explore the wilds sometimes all by myself walking barefoot. That was part of my growing up. Of course I didn't know the danger I could have gotten into but I just loved the wildlife and often collected some strange animals like the Rhino beetle. When I was in my late twenties studying in England I talked of fly snakes then, but some folks from the Western world (England) thought I was delirious. Nobody even seen or knew of flying foxes. Not anymore.
The only thing that digust me of living there is the parasites living in you that you may have to deal with daily. With modern medicine this will be just a discomfort. The natives of North Western Borneo (Ibans, Dayaks, Murut, etc) will greet you with the utmost respect as long as you bring them essential stuffs for their daily use. Things are different now of course.... but still not much explored by Westerners today. You could name a species after you.
