  13. ok, thankyou for your answers, i'll go for the cutting off but using the rubber band to stop bleeding. also, if this would cause infection, then does anyone know why farmers use it on lambs tails? because the whole purpose for cutting it off in the first place is to stop it getting infected.
  14. hey folks, i've started writing this story (granted, its quite likely that i won't get round to finishing it because i'm like that but hey) and basically there's a character who is stuck in the wilderness with not much on him and a cut on his little 'pinky' finger gets infected and he has to cut it off. i've been thinking about different ways that he could cut it off and i remembered that farmers use rubber bands to cut lambs tails off and i thought maybe he could have a rubber band in his pocket or something. i was just wondering how long it would take for a little finger to drop off if the rubber band was tight enough and if it would be painful and what kind of wound it would leave?
  15. thank you
  16. what is the wavelength of uvc radiation beneath which it is ozone producing? btw i'm not sure if that makes sense grammatically or whatever but i couldn't think how to phrase it.

    making rust

if i were to try and use this with powdered aluminium in a thermite demonstration would it affect the reaction? Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedwould water not containing salt work?
  18. yes that was very good, although you did slip into australian near the beginning, most of the time you were a very convincing middle class/sometimes upper class london accent. very impressive for a non-british person.
  19. this seems a bit random but i always wondered, why did mrs doubtfire always say she (or should i say he) was english? she/he always said she/he was from england, never once did she say she was from scotland yet she has a distinct highland scottish accent.
  20. i normally have cocoa pops, muesli or porridge oats (the last two with plenty of sugar:-p)

  22. yeah his music was legendary so R.I.P mikey the joke wasnt meant disrespectively but it is just funny. alot of offensive jokes would be funny if it wasnt offensive, i have heard quite a few that are very clever, it is a shame they are offensive
  23. thankyou for that, that is quite interesting, the related video of the 9 yr old japanese kid doing an impression is qutei interesing too.
  24. i agree with you here, i am somewhat uncomfortable with the notion, but i have wondered what it is to be cruel. surely it would only be cruel to cause pain to an animal which can be distressed. animals such as flies are simply robots and just do things because they are 'programmed' to do them. they have 'programmed' responses. but when you get to animals such as dogs or even lesser animals, they can obviously become distressed by things and feel pain, fear, sadness etc. some pets will become ill if they are not forgiven for something bad they have done. after thinking about this, i thought that it would be difficult to draw the line between which animals are 'robots' and which feel distress etc so it should not be done to any animals. this brought to think that, why is it cruel? pain is simply the body telling the consciousness that there is something wrong. i then thought that, if one kills someone, especially if it is quick, then where is the harm, for they are no longer feeling. but then i thought that it would cause grief to others so it would be bad. but then, what is sadness? it is merely a biological response to losing something you have become accustomed to. it is, if you like, a side affect of such and advanced mind. as are all emotions.so then i thought, where is the harm in killing, or being cruel, or anything? afterall, we are simply bunches of chemicals designed to make more chemicals. thats it. in the end, even after all that, i am glad to say that my 'side effect' emotions are too strong so even if i could find a way to justify cruelty i would not like it. this is all rather disturbing but, on occasion, i like to ponder on such issues in a philisophical way.
