In the experiment of the reaction: 2Al(s) + 3CuCl2.2H20 (aq)---> 3Cu(s) + 2AlCl3 + 6H20 the products were later poured into a filter paper which trapped the copper precipitate. After the filter paper was dried, there was some green colour around the edges of the filter paper. I have been told that it was the compound Malachite. Could someone plz tell me where that malachite came from since it does not appear in the original reactant. Please provide a chemical eqn for it. I know that its chemical formula is Cu2CO3(OH)2, copper carbonate hydroxide. Does the carbon in this formula come from the air??From the carbon dioxide from the air??If so could someone plz provide a chemical eqn for it and sum more info... Thx in advance

Is the aluminum we use in real life the actual Al(s) from the periodic table or is it like Al2O3, since there is oxygen everywhere so it changes? If it is the Al2O3, how would this interfere with the results from a experiment where a strip of Aluminum was part of the reactant but in the eqn its Al(s). I did experiment 2Al(s) + 3CuCl2.2H20 (aq)---> 3Cu(s) + 2AlCl3 + 6H20 THe purpose was to find how much copper was produced. So if its not Al(s) that I used but Al2O3, how would this affect the amount of copper produced. Ne ideas need help. Also could someone plz tell me what deionized water is. Is it pure water containing nothing else. Or does it have some minerals in it. Thx in advance

wt dz the C stand for in that equation? so for example if we take (n+2)^4, we put it in the eqn: 4C0*n^4*2^0 = n^4 4C1*n^3*2^1 = 8n^3 4C2*n^2*2^2 = 16n^2 4C3*n^1*2^3 = 32n 4C4*n^0*2^4 = 64 = n^4+8n^3+16n^2+32n+64 Wouldnt you get this as an answer by following that formula. I know thats not correct so could u plz point out my mistakes. Duz the C mean to multiply the number infront of it by the number behind it.....or wtelse am i doing wrong. Thx

(n+2)^3 =n^3+3(n^2)(2)+3(n)(2^2)+2^3 =n^3+6n^2+12n+8 Could sum 1 tell me how this method cud b used for other exponents such as (n+2)^4 or (n+2)^5. So plz xplain to me this method of expanding, plz show the pattern if there is one.

I have to create a top ten list of positive aspects of my food consumption and exercise and their physiological benefits. Im havin trouble with determining wts most important and wats least. Like do minerals like calcium, zinc cum first or do vitamins cum first. And which minerals are most important. And is exercising like soccer running basketball more important than ne of these and wt important benefits do they provide like improving cardiovascular fitness? ANd the same on the negative side, which things wd b most hurtful to me? Thx

The arithmetic sequence a, a+d, a+2d, a+3d,...., a+(n-1)d has the following properties: When the first, third, and fifth and so on terms are added, up to and including the last term, the sum is 320. When the first, fourth, seventh and so on terms are added, up to and including the last term, the sum is 224? What is the sum of the whole sequence? Im clueless, can ne1help. Thx alot.

oic, thx alot. I understand how to get it from the first response but the 2nd response confuses me Maybe if u go a bit slower, but thats alrite atleast I know one way now. Thanks again both of u. Well another answer another question:P A solid cube of side length 4 cm is cut into two peices by a plane that passed through the midpoints of six edges, as shown. To the nearest centrimetre, the surface area of each half cube created is? I have learned the answer to be 69....is this right bcuz i havent learnd how to prove it:P personally i get confused by just looking at the picture, where are these half cubes??? are they supposed to be infront and behind the hexagon? There is a semi-circle with diameter XY. Rectange PQRS is inscribed in the semi-circle with PQ=12 and QR=28. Square STUV has T on RS, U on the semi-circle and V on XY. The area of STUV is closest to.... Answer is 16. I just want to know steps to come up to this answer. I made a drawing on paint, it dznt look xactly like the one I have but it shd give u guyz and idea of the question. If someone can show me steps to get to this answer it wd b helpful alot. Thx.

Say a patient in a hospital was getting some blood put in her and her chart said she was type B. A donor was taken which was labeled type B, but just for safety they took a sample of both blood and mixed them, Agglutination occured. Now how could you find out which label is wrong considering you have type A, type O and type AB blood at your disposal but no Type B. Would type B be a control variable in this sort of expirement or...is there even a control. Thx alot

Mathematical way to find number of water molecules in hydrates?
umer007 replied to umer007's topic in Applied Chemistry
no I meant like say you were given the name of the hydrate or like its mass, the anhydrous salts mass, mass of water (all grams) and percentage composition of water in the hydrate. Or molar mass of the hydrate, molar mass of the anhydrate, mass of water in the hydrate (g) and percent composition of water in the hydrate. Then how would you find out the number of water molecules? Actually Im not exactly certain about it either. I was told there is a mathematic formula to determine the number of water molecules in a hydrate. For example epson salt is magnesium sulphate MgSO4. And its hydrated formula is MgSO4*7H2O, but say you werent given the number 7 only MgSO4*nH2O, where n is a whole number. How would you find out what n is, if you were given molar mass of the hydrate and the anhydrous salt. Or what information would you need to find n? -
How to find compound by knowing mass and percentage composition
umer007 replied to umer007's topic in Applied Chemistry
Thx for the help. Just one more question. How do u name the compound I mean i found out that this compound has 1 carbon atom, 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom. Is there a way of arranging the formula or do u just have to think of a compound with these atoms? Thx -
How can you find what the compound is by knowing its mass and percentage compostions. For example a sample of a compound weighs 650 mg. It contains 257 mg of carbon, 50.4 mg of hydrogen, thus leaves us with 342.6 mg of oxygen. I worked out the percentage compositions to 38.5% C, 7.75% H and and 52.8% O. How can I find what this substance is? Thanx in advance

2 identical pices of steel wire of equal length were used to manufacture two springs. Diameter of the first spring coil was d, diameter of the second was 2d. Both springs were then loaded with the equal masses. As a result, the first spring stretched out to the one tenth of its initial length. What was the percent elongation of the second spring? Any of you genuises know how to solve this question Hope i put it in the rite section.
