Heh, We were camping with a vegetarian once who made a big show of himself about it. Thought he was like better than everyone else. One night we made silver turtles: chicken and vegetable's cooked in aluminum. You wrap up what you want to eat and stick it in the fire. There was a big deal about salt and stuff so me and a friend were designated season adders. The vegetarian put his vegetables on aluminum and gave it to us, saying "Keep mine away from everybody elses." Like it'd get contaminated or something. So we pored chicken broth in and set it on the opposite side of the fire, specially for him. When we were doen he was like "that's the best cooked vegetable's I've ever had! What kind of seasoning did you guys put in?" I didn't want to tell him the truth, and my friend looked horrified, so I was like "It's not the seasoning, camp fires always make food taste better. It's more natural."

There's a lot of debate about whether or not viruses are alive, I know, which is why I chose it for my research paper. There still isn't a lot of good information out there, most is just personal opinion. I spent all evening in different libraries doing research but it seems most scientists havn't published much about it. There are good articles about the connections viruses have with living things (the development of the nucleus, etc), the history of viruses, and how they operate, but not much about whether they're alive. I guess my conclusion will be that even if viruses are not alive, they still share a vital connection with other living creatures.

How bougt we go to your place and calculate the spring to mattress coefficient of your bed? Lets go to my place to do some research in applied fluid dynamics. Wow you're carying a lot of flippin books. I bet that kid over there wouldn't want to mess with you. Nice jacket... I think my grandmother owns the same one. I bet those shoes looked great when they were new.

Try doing pushups with your hands beside each other. Works your uh.. boob muscles, whatever those are called. It's a lot harder.

Gargle olive oil and enter in a hot pepper eating contest. Get a stiff foamy ball or something and stick it in your armpit. Tell somebody you can control your pulse and tell them to fell it on your writst. Squeeze on the ball and they'll fell your pulse stop. Put tape on the bottom of an animal's foot and watch it dance! Tell your friends to stand with their side against a wall and lift their other leg. Microwave a phone book and proclaim you're the strongest man on earth. Tear the book and challange anybody else to do the same. For added effect, use a Bible (I got susspended for that one ;P). If it's still too hard to tear, before hand, fold the pages back and forth so you make a good crease and use the book cover to hide it. Oh, and yeah, magic is fun.

This thread is emo. Instead of spending time here, reading and responding to all these long posts and being depressed/discouraged/whatever, you could be out enjoying yourself. Kind of like how emo kids listen to and sometimes even write crappy music, sulking in how pathetic their lives are.

Use squashfs. You can get anyware around 3 or more times the storage capacity. It uses the same compression as 7-zip but goes through a few other routines like douplicate files/file parts, and merges smaller files together so it doesn't wast space on overhead. I recently got 184MB from a 526 root fs on a liveCD. I was really quite amazed at how much space it saved. A full gnome,xmms,firefox/flash/java,xine/codecs... all capable of running inside 256MB of RAM (meaning it goes super fast as things dont have to be loaded from the CD -- actually, it's faster than it would be running from a hard drive).

It's always been hda -- hda1,hda2,hda3 etc. Now it shows up as a 1MB device called hda (no hda1 or 2). In other words, it thinks that it's a 1MB hard drive and wont do anything with it. sda only pops up when I put somethign in usb. I tried copying /dev/hda with dd but it was just strait zeros from what I could tell (tial hda.img, mount -o loop). The image was also 1MB in size. I guess it just proves that it's not if your hard drive will crash, it's when.

Sometimes free services are better than what you may get with your ISP, business, or whatever. I use Yahoo cause gaim automatically notifies me when I get messages. Just a neat little feature. AOL users get a shitload of spam as well. All my AOL friends use hotmail, yahoo, or some other service for their email. And I know for a fact that charter's email is crap. People like Yahoo try to make good services because that's what they're about. ISPs are about providing Internet, not email. Plus, the entire effort, be it beneficial or not, is futile. There are too many free providers out there.

Like AL said, it gets old pretty fast. The same jokes are only funny for so long.

I cant get over my school dropping C++ and moving to Java.

Yep, I think it's gone for good. I had a perfect gentoo install and now I've just been checking out liveCDs. I made a small liveCD but I cant do much cause for some reason squashfs nor unionfs wants to work. The amount of time it takes gentoo to install anything makes me want to forget all about it and go back to ubuntu or something.

I got home today, was booted in arch64, and expected the desktop to appear when I moved the mouse. But nothing worked -- the black powersaving thing never went away, pressing buttons, ctrl+alt+F1/7, etc, so I held the power button and started it back up. Nothing booted. No grub. The bootit partition manager (floppy) wont even start the partitioning program. And fdisk, well... root@0[knoppix]# fdisk /dev/hda Unable to read /dev/hda So is it broken? Should I get a new hard drive or is this fixable?

Jordie and bloodhound. When Windows stopped working, they showed me Linux.

Yeah, men are bad about hurting people's feelings. That's why you never want to be in a gay relationship. They always end up breaking your heart in the end. Trust me.
-
I personally dont like knoppix, but I use it anyway cause I dont feel like trying a bunch of liveCDs out. Just need something to change partition tables in and other misc stuff -- something that doesn't autostart a desktop unless you tell it to.

(quoted from the herme3 thread) Some women like to think of themselves as equals, not poor little girls. They're not cudle dolls who need constant emotional support to stay alive. If I were a girl I'd probably be insulted. Staying with your girlfriend just because you think you'll make her cry is, in the end, not worth it.

Why are the best eBook reading devices discontinued?

That's why you go to mininova or similar. -
lol, herme3. Despite what the site says, it's actually supposed to be commical satire (see wikipedia). If you'd been on a couple dates, you'd find humor in it. A couple of my friends were over yesterday, laughing their asses off at the site. But what can you expect from a good theory? Something that explains and can make predictions? Ladder theory fits both criteria.
-
It used to be that men and women needed each other. A couple hundred years ago, ****ed up marriages were very common. Men beating their wives, adultery, etc, but they stayed together because they had to. Both sexes had depended on each other for all of human existence. A lot of people anymore dont want kids or to get married. Especially men -- most men would rather have casual sex and not be stuck with a wife, minivan, and kids. This is one of the main reasons divorce rates are so high now. It's not that marriages are worse than they used to be; it's that couples find they really dont need each other and thus wont put up with as much to keep the marriage going.

When two people meet they put each other on their ladders thus creating disparity between how high each got placed. However there's a flaw w/ the theory because we must have some sort of universal variable to accurately predict total disparity. This universal variable is called the Actual Position. Actual Position can be calculated with two factors: Raw Ratting / Self Image Self image is how snobby or confident a person sees him/herself. Self image is a relative term that changes based on how high the person ****s, how attractive the person sees him/herself, and how drunk the person is. It only affects where you put somebody on your ladder and not where you get put on somebody else's ladder. Total disparity can be calculated by subtracting the two values from the actual position each person gets put. An unattractive woman will have higher positions with men that have lower self image. This is why poor smucks will tolerate shit from attractive bitches. If they had higher self image they would tolerate less and thus end the relationship earlier. The point such a relationship ends is when Total Shit >= Total Disparity This is the point where a person decides that they deserve better than what they've been putting up with. Do not confuse self image with the lines at which somebody would active like like to ****, would **** drunk and admit to it, or would **** drunk and not admit to it. Self image is calculated for every person on the ladder so no matter how high a person's self-image is, they'll still **** the same people. Instead, because of a higher self value, they would put up with less and/or expect to be worshiped on a pedestal.

In terms of ladder theory, what you did was attempt the jump between the friends ladder and the good ladder but instead landed in the abyss. "The Abyss isn't really as bad as it sounds. Mostly it's a period of self-loathing, embarrassment, and of course utter awkwardness with the girl in question if they are talking at all." But this is a good thing because before you just an intilectual whore, ie, you were a guy that was being used for her own amusement and entertainment. An intellectual whore is a very bad thing to be. Chances are, your girl was ****ing an outlaw biker and needed you for intellectual stimulation that the outlaw biker wasn't giving her See scenario 1 of ladders for more information.

So does this replace the Win add or does it just display before the system starts booting up, kind of like a grub bootloader immage? Windows XP Pro will boot in 10 seconds...Press any key to boot Windows XP Home Like where I have two installs of 2003 server: http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showthread.php?p=267087#post267087 I only get 3 seconds to decide -- it'd be pretty nice to make it 10
