  1. I have been running into the same blank wall as you and John L. As far as I can tell Dr. Frank is still a major player in imaging tech, but I can't find any resolution to the flap. aguy2
  2. My first instinct would be to equate 'unnatural' with 'non-existent' , but for the purposes of this discussion I would go with, "at variance with what is normal or to be expected". aguy2
  3. 5. Having a physical existence, as opposed to one that is spirital, intellectual, or fictitious Most of the other possible definitions seem to use the word 'nature' to define the word 'natural', and then use the term 'natural' to define the word 'nature'. aguy2

You seem to equating 'gaining' nuclear capability with 'using' nuclear capability, as in your subsequent statement,"it will be far more devastating than initial strike on them." aguy2
  5. The winds in the photo overlay are counterclockwise aren't they? aguy2
  6. Is this a question? My normal response to questions involving 'natural', 'unnatural', 'supernatural', ect. is to say, "If it exists it is natural. If it does not exist it is most likely a product of the future and/or the imagination." Nonetheless, wouldn't your question (?) be more useful if you substituted the term 'biological life' for 'mankind'? Even to concide that these 'excessive responses' are outgrowths of natural behavior would beg the question, not answer it. The question would naturally devolve to, "What unnatural aspect of nature provided these extremes?" I really think, "What unnatural aspect of biological life provided these extremes?" would be a 'meatier' question. aguy2
  7. This is a new thing for the Chinese irregardless of their communist interlude. Historical pre-communist Chinese culture always placed the merchant at the low end of the status scale, with the family farmer, at least theoretically, at the top of the scale. aguy2
  8. The site cited by herpguy gave no indication of what could have caused the possible change in the Martian axis of rotation, but my line of reasoning was, 'if it could happen there, why not here'. aguy2
  9. Mike90, 12 steppers find that helping others is a good way to help yourself. Bettina seems to instinctively be using this method of self-therapy with some good effect. aguy2

I was thinking more in terms of a temporary occupation of the sites, rather than a 'raid', and did so in the context of the difficulty in finding the adversaries center of gravity and the possiblitity that Bush and his 'neo-cons' may have had something like this concept of a 'center of gravity' in mind as one of their rationals for the occupation of Iraq. I am having no problem seeing what you mean by the term 'tale', but can't find an appropriate definition in my dictionary. Is the term idiomatic? aguy2
  11. At least presently. We have evidence that under conditions of high temperature and pressure the 4 forces we see in nature were united in the early universe, and that these forces 'decoupled' one after the other as the universe cooled and expanded. Seeing as this cooling and expansion is an ongoing process, could it be possible that the 'electro' and 'magnetic' forces might decouple? aguy2

Philcandless, If identifing your adversaries 'center of gravity' and then 'striking hard and striking deep' is a valid operational doctrine, and the adversary is identified as the Wahabis 'death cult', wouldn't their center of gravity be identified as Mecca/Medina? If this is the case and we don't have what it takes to impliment the doctrine, shouldn't we completely rethink our operational doctrine or see if we can get good terms? aguy2
  13. This may be a degression but years ago I developed a little intellectual riff that goes like this: the great struggle to dominate the planet is between the grasslands and the forests. Being evolutionary newcomers and trees being so much bigger, stronger, and older the grasses figured they needed allies in their great war of survival. At first the grasses thought that elephants where going to be the hot number, due to the fact that they play such 'H' word with forests, but then came bipedal apes with their hand axes and fire. As a consequence of our helpfulness in their war with the trees, grasses and their cereals feed us in our billions and in return our middle classes worship them on their hands and knees in their front yards nearly every Saturday and Sunday. aguy2
  14. Are you saying that the sentence,"The shotgun blast created a random pattern on the target." doesn't make sense? aguy2
  15. Why either/or? What is wrong with a 'random pattern' or better yet a 'patterned randomness'? aguy2

I don't think we would want to just 'roll over', but short of all out war there is not much we can do about it. Iran has a youth oriented demagraphic lump that reminds me of pre-Beatle America. They have been decently fed and decently educated, and I think that there is a reasonable expectation they are becoming decent young men and women. We may yet need all the allies we can to counter these 'death cult' Wahabis. aguy2

  20. Do these animals display 'true' mutations, or do they just represent assembly errors? If they represent true mutations shouldn't the new characteristics be capable of being passed down to subsequent generations? aguy2
  21. Blank i don't exactly know what they talk about and i suspect neither do they but i think i know what it sounds like. sort of like a riff in between transitions and i seem to recognize it best in the sound a good regiment makes when it breaks stride so as not to shake a little bridge down. doyano what i mean?
  22. A typical thread might be, "SMS Van Der Tann": was the 5 degree difference in main battery elevation an asset or liability at Jutland? aguy2
