Not to butt in, but conway asked a question in the prime thread, and wanted to "discuss" why 1 is not classed has a prime. he was told This may not be in speculation, but in my opinion he deserves better than some of the replies posted here. by "senior members", yes there were references to why 1 is not classed as a prime in the prime thread, I enjoy some of conways threads and some others who seem to get shut down and in my opinion "bullied" by certain senior members. we can all quote opinions of long dead mathematicians but it seems conway wanted to explore this point further. And get "your" opinions so he could then explore further himself. . Myself I believe 1 should be a prime. Edit, I also like that he started the thread at 11.11 pm whether by thought or some kind of synchronicity, I will give a +1 for that (won't last long though ).

Just wanted to ask a question, old news, but from what I gather the proton is 4% smaller than previously thought, I was wondering would this make any difference to how we calculate the protons mass?

Everywhere I read says the earth curves 8 inches every mile, 8in to 1.6km In diagram below, I marked 3 points A,B,C, 3 brothers are at point A, BROTHER1 stays at point A, BROTHER2, travels to point C, BROTHER3 travels to point B, Brothers 2&3 both travel 10,000km, the 3 brothers cover half the circumference, if a then take the radius by distance traveled should the earth curvature be 6,335km every 10,000km? If the earth only curves 8inches per mile, the diagram should look more like this?

It is to scale they are 4000 mile high towers , I even removed all the land, just ocean, each tower "4000" miles high. We are talking "Earth's" horizon/curvature. why do A&B see each other below themselves, if i am (A) and see you going below horizon am I ABOVE (B)?

I was just thinking about the horizon, I imagined 8 points/people around the earth.(I know there is no up or down in space). Person (A) would see H&B below them, even though H&B will see (A) below them/their horizon. (A) would see H&B as being on the same level. (B) would see A&C below them, seeing them at the same height/altitude © would see B&D " (D) would see C&E (E) would see F&D (F) would see G&E (H) would see G&A So (A) sees H&B on the same level, © also sees B&D on the same level, so H,B,D must all be on the same horizontal level, you can follow this through and place every point is on the same horizontal level. is there math that explains this? if (A) see B as being below his horizon and (B) see (A) below his horizon, they cannot both be below each others horizon? so they must be something else?

with the salt flat the altitude did not vary more than 1metre over 12,000 square km, if you took into account the curvature of earth it would vary more than 1 metre over this distance. I am not defending flat earth, just looking. this video shows manhatten zoomed in, to me I can see the buildings below the horizon pointing to a spherical Earth but I also wonder why the buildings do not look tilted which they should do? (6mins) This I will keep to myself at the moment, It goes to far beyond flat/spherical earth, and after getting labled a "FLATY", WHICH i AM NOT. it is best to keep certain ideas quiet in a "science forum" .

Like I said I have never been a flat Earther, but after looking this last few days there is some interesting evidence for the flat earth but also a spherical earth, the horizon curvature interested me, whether buildings should be tilted over the horizon which they never are.. There are all kinds of explanations concerning the sun's transit. But I have decided it is similar to the double slit experiment, the Earth is both round/particle-flat/wave until we take any kind of measurement/observation and you get what you are looking for..

I was just looking again about "salar de Uyuni" a salt flat which was a lake 40,000yrs ago, If this salt bed is 12,000 square km roughly 3/4000km long, and the Earth is roughly 40,000km in circuference this would mean salar is 10% of the earths circumference but as NO horizon.(flat to within 1 metre at any point) Perhaps where the flat Earth theory originated from. even nasa uses salar http://www.boliviabella.com/uyuni.html

I think I would need to some how do this on a very large lake(opposite sides) or sea to get a true level, I am 99.99% sure you are right, Where did the sun go?

If I was a flat Earther I would say, I am not scared to state what "I BELIEVE", I've had stranger ideas. There is nothing wrong with asking a few questions from the point of view of a FE.

the video I showed was of a ship far in the distance under heavy magnification which did not show any drop below the horizon, But as I said when stringjunky posted his was that was the only one I have seen showing this effect and even said it was a good video, but to me on further viewing something did not feel right with it, I am no troll or flat earther, I expected to come on line today and find loads of pictures/videos showing a ship above/below the horizon, but other than stringjunkies I have found nothing, I want to find these videos/pictures. Feel free to post any find.

You would think with so much water on earth these type of videos would be easy to come by, but I can only find the video you posted. on further viewing something does not feel right in the video, it feels a little photo shoppy, also unsure of the distance the ship could travel in an hour to show it that far below the horizon. perhaps it his just me looking at a sail ship with its sails still up. but still it is the only video I could also find.

I do not see the sea very often it as been a few years, But I can never remember seeing a ship coming above or dropping below the horizon, not to say I haven't seen ships in the far distance but I cannot actually remember seeing whether I have seen this happen. this earlier video shows you would at least need a powerful pair of binoculars to actually see a ship going below the horizon.

As I said "I HAVE A FLAT EARTH FRIEND" It is not me, I came on today just to see if anyone had any personal pictures showing horizon/curvature has I could not find much. I think he thinks along the lines we are like an holodeck program, where we have all the science to back us up, but we are only a superficial copy of the real universe. I cannot answer for him about the sun, even though i remember him mentioning about the sun, also he mentioned about the planes but I admit I did not pay full attention to some of what he was saying, but thought I would have a look myself today. I can see many flaws but there are certain things I find interesting or "lack of things". like lack of pictures/videos of ships falling below horizon, lack of pictures of new york/dubai taken more than a couple of miles out to sea. Also some of earths flat areas, who's "average altitude variations within one meter over the entire area of the Salar". surely over 10,000 km we should see this curve of the horizon? I Should have the pleasure of my flat earths friends company again in a day or two, so I am just brushing up on pro/cons for this theory. PHI For All I can speak for myself that I try and keep up on every area of science, and I believe he understands the "science of planets/stars/matter/energies" etc but even though he understands the "science" he believes we are been fooled by some higher powers. So i have to find a way to prove or disprove on the personal level.

Just of the top of my head, if earth was a disc like a record, you could shine a torch onto half a record and as the record turns it would go from dark to light to dark as the record turns. Remember I am not putting forward a flat earth but just want to understand both sides for future discussions with my flat earth friend. any nasa footage will not be believed by friend, so i need something more personal.

I would like to see this bridge, i will search later, cheers I have tried searching for a video, could only find this one, but it shows no curvature, perhaps it is not distant enough, but what distance would it need? I thought maybe a seaview of new york or dubai might show this curvature, the best picture I can find of New York is from monmouth county(20 nautical miles) but it does not seem to show any curvature. What distance would you need to make new yorks bottom line disappear? Good friends are hard to come by, I enjoy people who question everything, It might become frustrating now and again but he is a great musician, plays the guitar better than anyone i have ever heard, i get my own personal concert well worth chatting about a flat earth theory.
