And for a longer period of time. Midusmmer's day, when the sun is both at its highest position in the sky and the day is longest occurs on June 21st. One might then expect June ot be the hottest month. There is however a delay - everything takes time to warm up.

Some variants of the Strong Anthropic Principle contend that Universe can only exist because it is observed. Consciousness is implicit in the act of observation, Thus ChristSlave's contention that 'space and time are illusions' is arguably simply an alternative way of saying that if they are reality, they are only reality through being observed. As to evidence, the apparent requirement for observation to precede the collapse of a waveform might well fit this request. (Come here, kitty, kitty.)

I think you are right.

The earth's core is hollow? (Big bang and bubbles III)
Ophiolite replied to Christ slave's topic in Speculations
Congratulations.! Absolutely agreed, but we must be sure those 'truths' are consistent with observed facts. -
According to this interesting article, which contrasts the Japanese and Chinese space programs, it is less than the US $2 billion committed by the Japanese.http://www.guardian.co.uk/space/article/0,14493,1431062,00.html

This link provides some reasonably detailed information on the structure of the water molecule that is useful background for this thread. http://www.lsbu.ac.uk/water/molecule.html

Thomas, I've read the first half of this thread then leapt to the end. There were portions of what you were saying that resonated with me, if I understood you correctly. You appear to be suggesting that the western society is currently engaged in a 'witch hunt' against targets that include pedophiles and sex offenders (and I would add terrorists). This is accompanied by a hysteria that means many innocent individuals, and many innocent of lesser crimes, are branded with a title that puts them beyond the pale. If that is at the heart of what you are saying I can agree with you. If that was your central message I think you might have found others would have been readier to agree if you had not mixed that message up with so much preaching about hatred and the like.

1. Only use it for transferring bulk construction materials to orbit. No worries then about the effects of acceleration. 2. Construct the barrel in the mountains, so that the bulk of the Earth's atmosphere is not encountered. 3. Naturally evacuate the interior of the barrel so that their is no air resistance initially. 4. What's wrong with having a heat shield? What's wrong with having a primary heat shield that vaporises the materials immediately behind it, these then being channeled through the rear of the projectile to add a little more velocity? 5. Forget the explosives and go for a magnetic propulsion system. That way you have manageable acceleration. Or just get on with building a space elevator.Much more elegant.

Are you going to post this nonsense on every forum I visit? Could you leave at least one unsullied by this dross?

If you had bothered to read the link I provided you would have found (under the sub-heading Health) the following:"Heavy water is not considered toxic, but some metabolic reactions require normal ("light") water, so consumption of exclusively heavy water can cause illness. In particular, the substitution of hydrogen by deuterium interferes with stereo-specific organic reactions." I've googled for you, I've extracted text for you. Do you want me to do your thinking for you?

Do you have a theme tune we could play when reading your posts?

I think it's to the credit of the admins here that they haven't immediately deleted the opening post and banned the poster. If I recall the terms of use Sayonara referred to they would have been well within their rights. Until I see a public apology from FiReaNG3L for these bad manners I shan't be looking at their site, let alone registering.

Evolutionary Value of Specific Traits
Ophiolite replied to Rasori's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
Interesting. Is that species specific. Are there mixes of sinisters and dexters in each species? Does it appear to provide any advantages? Slightly OT, but perhaps a good illustration of Rasori's underlying theme. -
In science facts need to be carefully verified before they are announced. Delaying the announcement was quite proper.

At last we've found a practical use for some of Bill Gates billions. Who's going to e-mail him the plan?
-
And I'll repeat what I asked in the other thread: I've read your source. Please identify on which page of the document this specific plan is mentioned. The only one of several plans that could actually have resulted in loss of life was that to sink Cuban refugee boats (real or simulated).

If we worked in unary then decisions would be easier.

One more peg in the proof of Alien Life?
Ophiolite replied to darkkazier's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
darkazier, I didn't intend to infer that this was not a noteworthy piece. We know that the elements essential for life will spontaneously form simple to moderately complex compounds in interstellar space. (Sedna and some of the other KBOs are probably ankle deep in such molecules.) We also know that by ten billion years ago a sufficient number of stars had gone supernova to provide those elements in abundance. Therefore we could fully expect that they were there, ready to be detected as soon as we turned a suitably sensitive instrument in their direction. The significance of this discovery is that the expectation is confirmed. That's neat, but I don't think it alters the odds on alien life. -
For one thing you've rounded up all the asteroids, comets, meteors, plutinos, Kuiper Belt Objects, scattered disc objects, minor planets, Oort cloud planetesimals, and anything that moves, to make the sphere in the first place.

We have finally totally and thoroughly blown it in Iraq.
Ophiolite replied to Thomas Kirby's topic in Politics
If I read you correctly TK you are saying this to Pangloss - "You ask me what to do. I have no idea what to do in Iraq, but I believe we should take action here to prevent anything like this happening again." If that's accurate, what action would you take.
