There was an article in popular science a while back that talked about using an air compressor type device to decelerate a car, and the use that stored energy to re-accelerate after a stop. They mentioned a 30,000 psi tank, wrapped in carbon fiber, as the energy storage medium. The negative that they listed was that it sounded like an air wrench.

You mentioned that your brother and sister live in the same sort of situation that you do, and they tolerate it. Don't let that hold you back.

As in 60W-incandescent-replacement types? Where exactly were you able to find them?
-
Technically, its a nucleotide, but close enough.

See if you can talk to the pastor alone, also, as that can make things more painless. Talk to him in private, to see if he can offer you some advice, or if he can help you.

Well, the analogy is usually "What is north of the north pole" which makes a little more (less?) sense.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I defy ANY parent to tell their child that they cannot go to the library. And for some reason, it broke my heart to use the above grammar. Does your church have a youth group that you could join?

I wants it.

What do you think of my experiment?
big314mp replied to hitmankratos's topic in Microbiology and Immunology
I suggested ampicillin since it is well studied in the lab, for both resistance and non-resistance. You can buy both resistant and non-resistant versions of the same bacterium. You can also induce resistance with plasmids (rings of DNA) that can also be bought. As for feasibility, I really can't comment on that I can tell you that it would make a DAMN interesting science fair project if you could pull it off. -
I like the "go to the library" idea by Mr Skeptic. Perhaps a study group. With people some friends from Sunday school. Then a friend from Sunday school. Then a girl from Sunday school. etc etc. I'm half joking ^^^ But a safe place (like a library) to hang out with a few friends is very difficult (one could argue that it is abusive) to reject.

You could do ampicillin resistance, as that is commonly used in labs, and is well studied. You could probably even order ampicillan resistant strains from supply companies. -
You should see what it's like at our campus. It's a bit better, now that the voter registration deadline is past. It's like every 30 feet there is someone with a clipboard asking questions about the candidates.

What exactly do you do in your free time? I think you mentioned lying around on your bed with an iPod...but seriously? Get outta the house more! I can almost guarantee you that if a girl asks about what you do for fun, and all you can come up with is the above... There are other nice benefits too. Like getting to meet people. And having fun. A part of me finds it funny that you came here for help
-
Of course, whatever Mr Skeptic said is premised on the assumption that you could take care of yourself for a few days. If that isn't 110% true, don't try it.

Hang out in class? It's kind of a worthless suggestion, but unless you actually face up to your parents about it, that's the best you'll be able to do.

Cynthia McKinney - 76% Barack Obama - 75% Ralph Nader - 69% John McCain - 65% McKinney seems to be turning up for a bunch of people here...

If you and your girl get webcams, you can video conference with each other over the internet. I hate to impose my views on your family, but have you actually tried talking with your parents about it? They may be more accepting than you are giving them credit for.

Looks like iNow is passing out heart attacks Anyhow, I think the local ice cream company (Graeter's, if anyone is familiar) uses some gelatin mixed in with the starting ingredients to help the ice cream stay...soft-serve-esque, for lack of a better term. Nestle makes a bunch of different types of chocolate chips (intended for chocolate chip cookies) that you could try.

Show some effort in solving the problem before you ask for help on your homework. I would suggest you do exactly what the question asks: namely, arrange those bonds by the energies given in your textbook.
-
A full shell of electrons is more stable (i.e. lower energy) than an unfilled shell. Atoms bond to each other to fill their outer shell of electrons (all the inner ones are already full) so an atom that already has a full outer shell won't really bond to anything else.

You can take a cup or so, and dump it in a garbage disposal (the grinder thing in a sink). Turn on the hot water, and then turn on the garbage disposal. It creates a kind of volcano like plume. You'll have to tweak the dry ice amount based on the size of your garbage disposal. Dry ice in some rubbing alcohol will make the alcohol kind of viscous, IIRC. Looks kind of neat, but is also sorta boring.

You could also look into just buying a bottle of it online.

This seems slightly draconian. Perhaps a tax on incandescent light bulbs, where all proceeds from the tax go to funding environmental efforts would be better placed? Something along the lines of what governments do with cigarettes, so that if a person wanted to use an incandescent bulb, they could choose to pay extra for the luxury (that extra being used to clean up the mess associated with the aforementioned bulb).

Use the same method you used to calculate the force parallel. F(perp) = F(g)*cos(24.23) The F(perp) is your normal force. You calculate the kinetic friction the same way you calculate the static friction. F(f) = F(perp)*u(kinetic) This force "takes away" from the force accelerating the box, so you subtract it from the force accelerating the box. In physics terms, this force is acting in an opposite direction from the force parallel. So subtract the kinetic friction force from the force parallel. The number that this gives you is the net force on the box. The net force, divided by the mass, will give you the acceleration.
