    Nyquil

I recieved the following response from Vicks, the company that maufactures or offers NyQuil: Thanks for your question regarding what the "Quil" stands for in NyQuil and DayQuil. As is sometimes the case with acquired brands, that specific information does not exist in our Archives. P&G acquired Richardson-Vicks (RVI), the company that introduced NyQuil, in 1985. However only a fragment of the historical files from RVI were ever turned over to P&G. In a 1999 magazine article at the time of the brand's 30th anniversary, the author conjectured that NyQuil was based on the term "nighttime tranquility." Although I can't confirm it, it would seem to be a logical guess. My apologies that I can't provide a definitive answer. I thought that this would be the response, thank you all!

    Nyquil

I actually sent an email to Vicks the pharmaceutical company that makes it, I hope they reply with an official answer. Kyrisch, you are probably correct or on the right track. P.S. The avatar freaked me out too, that's why i used it, I hope you enjoy!

    Nyquil

Does anyone have a history on the nomenclature for this cold/cough remedy? What does Nyquil stand for? specifically the "quil" part. If anyone has an answer please post any applicable citation as well.
  4. Well, this is quite a true phenomenon. It is very interesting how we have become so uncivilized. Personally, although I make every effort to be polite and go out of my way for others, I constantly have to look over my shoulder. Unfortunately, we have lost each other’s trust. As the world continues to grow and people continue to move there is more and more blend within populations. It takes a great deal to adapt to a new culture and for that society to adapt to the individual or few. Consider this: You are the first black person in a white neighborhood. As technology advances with more means to move around; the world will continue to have a meltdown as in NYC. We just don’t know and understand each other well. I regret not paying attention during Global Studies class. How can I understand the respect of most of the Asian cultures or the oppression of Africans. If I am wrong in my last sentence it further enhances my view on this topic. The best thing one can do is go out and learn a second language …and use it!
  5. The reason I posted this question is because I have a patient who has this particular problem. I recall reading in the newspaper a while back, quite possibly about the quoted person, and that's what piqued my interest in the matter. I understand that the deodorant alone is not a problem but most sprays include the antiperspirant especially for the ‘pits’. In general, most people will spray in the heavily sweated areas; however there are those that enjoy continuous spraying across the body. Indeed, this client was actually choking on the spray and did not stop spraying. This is an ongoing disorder for the individual and the chemicals in the blood only add to the issue. Is it the fumes, the blocked pores or long term abuse that causes harm? I am still searching for a confirmed and researched case if there is one. Please continue to help, thank you.
  6. I apologize for not reading this reply prior to my commenting above. Folks this is the reality! To those on the democratic train you need to jump off and grab a valium, all you people seem to be full of anger. I think it’s a pity that most democrats (and many rebups too) are crying foul about the stock market while they have never made a worthwhile investment to understand the market. Naturally, the market directly or indirectly effects the entire population but please don’t cry over spilled milk that I purchased! I have made some bad investments, however I have received, a low tier but generous, education and was able to recognize my opportunities and stand up and continue my running. Does anyone remember Sept 11? Each one of us independent Americans realize the need to protect, provide and care for ourselves. 9/11 was a great blow to this nation, but who stood up to face the terrorists? ….and there will continue to be pitfalls along the way and yes it costs money to install an alarm system to protect our freedom. Democrats! Please stop the bickering, why couldn’t you all stand in line around ground zero rather than run into the streets and cause chaos. NYC didn’t need your added burden during the days of the RNC. I am sure you horses can get that aforementioned valium, perhaps Medicare will pay for it, or better why don’t you use your WIC coupons?
  7. wow, excellent statement ! Here is a self qoute from my post about lazy people: Here in the US is unfortunately supported by the democrats. Too many times I have witnessed a grown man sitting at home all day watching Kong-fu movies while his six children (from different females) are in daycare. This man is emptying my wallet and depleting my hard-earned money that I need to pay for my “privileged” healthcare. The democrats seem to build housing and provide all sorts of essentials for these “leaches.” We need to pull the plug on the lazy sonofabitch’s cable box and send him out to sink or swim in the real world!

  9. have u just started running, how long have u been active and athletic? If you r just starting out than u must take it really slow and let your body build up the stamina needed for such rigorous aerobic exercise. The sickness and vomit are most probably a result of poor nutrition as mentioned by earlier responses. This usually happens to people after the marathon or after longer runs that they haven’t properly prepared for nutritionally. In my experience with running the pain in the legs especially in the calves are usually the cramps resulting from lactic acid build-up. Lots of liquid including water and good sports drinks (Gatorade or powerade) will do the trick. Remember to drink before, during and especially after exercise. Yes you will have to run to the bathroom during other classes but it is imperative to keep the body hydrated. If you take it slow you will gradually build up the endurance and your respiratory rate will slow down and you will take longer circular breaths that will provide you with an O2 supply to relieve you from the oxygen-debt causing the pain. Stretch!! Always stretch, anytime of the day is good. If you are stretch throughout the day than you may reduce the stretch time prior to and after the run, when time is causing the stress. There are many great sites and books to help you with right formation, correct warm-up/cool-down, and hydration. Running is not an exact science. Back to your injuries: take it slow! And injuries must be taken seriously; if you are injured: REST!
  10. can spraying too much deodorant/anti-persp on your body cause harm other than the aluminum content. Specifically, the ant-perspirant blocking the sweat glands. If someone were to spary or apply this stuff all over their body can it cause illness or death?
