  1. 1. Platelets and fibrin from the blood and bone marrow is what clots a cut. 2. Contraction over extended periods can cause damage and the precise nature of contraction is still under investigation. Human skin isn't entirely made of epithelial cells, it is also made of an extra cellular matrix that is composed of protein fibers like collagen and elastin, as well as other molecular components such as melanin. I believe the major contributor to the appearance of normal scar tissue is in fact the sheeting action of collagen where in scar tissue it is substantially different. The degree of vascularization in damaged skin also contributes to the appearances of scar tissue, as well as the lack of hair follicles and sweat glands. I have to re-review though it has been a while.
  2. Smooth surfaces where good traction can be obtained are ideal for this sort of navigational system. Making the navigation system airborne in your case makes the navigation system independent of the surface over which the drone is traveling. Making the navigation system airborne synthesizes the ideal condition that we see in the case of the Roomba. An aerial perspective also gives the software a better picture of the terrain to gain visual cues for navigating. Laser beacons these days I imagine, are relatively inexpensive.
  3. I wouldn't say that too loud if I were you, you very obviously do not know me that well--this is however, not really a topic for forum discussion . . . . .
  4. Dubstep mixes a lot of music over the last century. DJs often incorporate early Jazz as well as Rhythm and Blues. I don't think most people would enjoy most things that I listen too. I think the underlying cues are often too subtle for most to appreciate. The NIN that I posted earlier is an example where even the most avid NIN fans aren't really aware of this album because it wasn't well understood. I don't know where my taste comes from but I think it relates to my excessive and distorted emotional state. I find it very hard to identify with most people and this suggests to me that what is going on inside of me is not entirely the same as everyone else. I guess I'm saying that maybe I have an underlying chemical imbalance or something that affects my perception and so I listen to weird things. For the books I do not do drugs nor condone them!
  5. Dubstep is an eclectic form of Drum and Bass that emerged from the UK in the last decade as a need to incorporate the freshness of Break Beat to offset the Rastafarian undertones of the Jungle style in hopes of creating a more global musical genre. The music avoids archaic style and heavily introduces tuplets as a serious artistic form creating a parallel between the less contrived energies of daily life with the less contrived energies of deep thought. The mood can often be described as the anticipation of a clarifying moment that is simply never achieved. This is further compounded by the medium with which most listeners are subject to the content where the content is continuously streamed without a break in the constant out pouring of the emotional torrent which is dubstep. It is great music to listen to when working on mathematics. In the clubs I prefer Break Beat as it tends to be somewhat more civilized and is less inciting towards everyone taking their clothes off--although this wouldn't bother me much at all, most club goers are not so open minded as myself.
  6. By George my dear I think you've got it! Next we shall work on your taste in music . . . . j/k
  7. If you use preview post from full editor you can play around for a while and see how things work!
  8. I have to second this, using an accelerometer in conjunction with a compass isn't something that will give you the accuracy that you desire, especially on rough terrain like farmland. I would even go as far to say that you might as well use mensuration, employing an internal clock and calendar, and the use of the position of the sun and shadows, to track your movements. If you wanted to employ a system that included an accelerometer I would suggest the only way to accomplish this would be to set the navigation system in an airborne state navigating from a few meters above the drone. Laser beacons are by far the most ideal present day solution to your problem.
  9. "Plasmonic Laser Puts the Squeeze on Light" Bachor, H. A. "Manipulating The Quantum Properties Of Continuous Laser Beams." Applied Physics B: Lasers & Optics 81.7 (2005): 889-896. Academic Search Premier. Web. Nicolas Treps, et al. "Teaching A Laser Beam To Go Straight." Contemporary Physics 46.6 (2005): 395-405. Academic Search Premier. Web. As far as I understand this is a fundamental property of quantum mechanics. Why are you relating precision to the Plank length? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transverse_mode#Laser_modes http://arxiv.org/pdf/1105.5970v1.pdf That last step it's a doozy!
  10. I can't find nothing weeeman . . . . sorry!
  11. Just cut and paste the URL without using the editor tools . . . .
  12. I'll have to remember that one . . . . .
  13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QYtyyKgqp0&list=FLrlYsPBAqkRAMYtIvSXgcKA&index=22&feature=plpp_video
  14. Grab a Radeon HD 6570 for fifty bucks . . . . . 1Gig 650MHz. Aside from this I'll do some quick research tomorrow night see what I can find. I never rely on built in graphics personally!
  15. Funny that you mention that, it was also on my book list and I ordered it this morning. I hate waiting for my books to show up. :/ ** as well as Quantum Field Theory by L.H. Ryder, and General Theory of Relativity by P.A.M. Dirac
  16. Sounds good to me! : D
  17. Tower make model, video card, . . .
  18. DrRocket had suggested the Feynman Lectures Vol. III before also for something else that I had asked, I'll try to move this one to the top of my list. I'll have to go over the Bra Ket manipulation rules. I haven't looked at Bra Ket too closely as of yet because I haven't yet found a formal treatment and I'm not one to study from online sources. I have Linear Operators for Quantum Mechanics by Thomas F. Jordan in my bookmarks as the book to get so I guess I'll just go ahead and do that also. Thanks!
  19. I've looked over this one a few times and I'm still not quite sure what to make of it. Reading over the various blurbs on the topic I can say that I am familiar with most of the components in their individual form but I don't understand what Bra Ket is trying to do to put it all together. I was just wondering if someone could give me an immediately obvious example of application and somehow relate it to the more pertinent matters of QM? Looking over the Wiki again, am I simply missing the point that it is an inner product? I mean an inner product is nothing for me to run away from, but Bra Ket has been something I've always felt kind of queezy looking at. And I keep seeing the term linear functional, I mean if this is simply a mapping of vector space onto its scalar components I can understand that in English, but I don't see why or how that it is relevant. And what is the concern with orthogonality, and the importance of the Hilbert Space? I never really found any of this in Messiahs book, it may have been in parts that I couldn't access at the time and I should probably re-review when I have the chance. As far as I had gotten was with the basic building blocks of the wave function, wave-particle duality, and HUP. For anyone who has read my personal rantings I don't disregard HUP while I observe the inner workings of QM, I embrace it and I feel that I actually have a pretty thorough understanding of the concept! I am of coarse, now a little of topic though.
  20. Does a metamaterial necessitate nano or simply a process whereby the material is achieved? Piercing holes in foil doesn't exactly constitute nano. It might rely on the atomic and molecular properties of the constituents but these properties I do not believe are generally manipulated at the nano scale where metamaterials are concerned. This obviously doesn't mean that they couldn't be. There are better opinions than mine and I'm not trying to close the subject!
  21. I was just thinking on the lines of signatures, the resolving matter was distinguishing the above surface from the surface and below. At any rate I'll take your word for it!
  22. 1) Try combining these into one complete thesis statement: "What is biological diversity (or biodiversity)? 'Biodiversity' is a collective term meaning 'all life on earth'. Scientists are trying to get the public aware of biodiversity and why it's important." 2) Is it? How do you know this? (I know its in the next statement but introducing the source when you introduce the definition keeps the reader from) 'Biodiversity' is a collective term meaning 'all life on earth'. 3) Is all of this necessary to an intro? You have also already at this point given it a definition, why are you redefining it again? Is there some conflict between your definition and their definition? The Convention of Biological Diversity defines biodiversity as: 'The variability among living organisms from all sources, including inter alia, terrestrial, marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes of which they are apart; this includes diversity within species, between species, and of ecosystems'. 4) Again why is this important? People often hear about biodiversity, on the news, in the paper, radio shows, articles in magazines, etc. 5) Why is biodiversity important? You don't actually ever mention why it is important! - does it affect how we live? - do we benefit from it? - what is the underlying cause of biodiversity? - what exactly do you hope to make people aware of with respect to the topic? are you going to be talking about Darwin's Natural Selection? maybe about how medicine would be no where near as developed as it is now if it weren't for biodiversity? what happened in the three billion years that brought us here and when was biodiversity even achieved? ( hint: not three billion years ago) The following are probably not very appropriate for an introductory paragraph: ' ' I like that you chose to use apostrophes instead of quotations because I prefer to see terms that are being defined in apostrophes, but honestly most essays require a number of defining ideas and so this kind of clutters the text. I would suggest to save these for those really special ah ha moments. Secondly etc. has absolutely no place in a first paragraph. It indicates that you will be giving too much information and the information that you will be presenting will be of very little value. Being able to professionally impress your reader is something you really want to learn now and not later when you are scrambling for your grades \o hi! Don't hesitate to get enthusiastic and excited (what I just did there was bad they are two very closely related properties but I was being rhetorical so bare with me)! Have fun with your assignment. : ) **Don't hesitate to edit your work, it means that you care!
  23. Not at all the same Nanomaterial Engineering is the practice of engineering materials for nano-technology, whereas Metamaterial Engineering is the process of engineering materials to have a property that isn't normally observed such as invisibility. For example a metamaterial may be produced that renders objects within invisible or is simply itself invisible. Current research employs surface plasmon resonance to achieve a negative refractive index in hopes of gaining this property. A scientist here is noted as having introduced me to the concept. As for nanomaterials, buckyballs would be considered a nanomaterial.
  24. There's a song I have been trying to find what language the lyrics are in. The song is called Saints and Sinners by Dj Distance. I've tried Google translate with phonetic typing and I can't pull up anything. It's driving me nuts. I've had Hindi and Punjabi speaking persons listen to it and they say the same thing as I do it is so much like a mix of languages but no one can place it exactly and it is making it impossible to translate the damn thing. Does anyone have the ultimate answer to solving this dilemma? I have spent some serious hours trying to figure it out and it's driving me bonkers. It's a very sensual song so most of my focus has been on finding words that have a sensual meaning to them . . . . . this isn't a song you can just pull up on Youtube, I actually had to buy the track from the UK. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NjISu4BGCCg/SGDJ8Mmvc-I/AAAAAAAAAAU/vD-fmYp4_GQ/s1600-h/Fumi+Myoume.jpg ^I was guessing Filipino, but if she sings it I'm not sure my first guess was accurate . . . . I'm not a very good guesser . . . He's kind of sexy!
  25. That was the idea yes. I was just thinking that it might be possible to resolve gamma emissions over a few elements known to be incorporated into our own biological systems near surface. I don't know how readily this could be done, but I would imagine being able to do so might actually gain us some insight into said capital city. I thought MILDI was orbit to surface gamma spectroscopy but apparently not. I suspect with a large enough array it might be possible to gain some intel. on far away planets, but then again maybe not, I know very little about this sort of thing.
