  1. If you are comfortable with it....I would suggest the double slat experiment....but it would inevitably lead to some relatively advanced concepts.
  2. It was good enough for me....just wanted to add my 2Cents
  3. ......I will attempt the inevitable one word answer to your question.... Desperation
  4. Calamari Steve......almost as good as Buffalo Bill
  5. I would place my money on the insects making the next stab at civilization. At least if they could overcome that rediculous breathing problem they have. Or maybe cetaceans, they are probably almost there anyway.
  6. From what I remeber....the stability, and to some extent the size of the "great red spot" on Jupiter are related to the speed and sheer of the seperate bands rotating at the rough equator of the Planet. I believe the rotation of the planetary cloud bands literally, Rub against each other and create disturbances that can be compounded in certain circumstances.
  7. Truly....you have wonderful taste. Anyone remember "Star Blazers"?
  8. If we bother to take a look at the long term effects of space tourism/exploration (yes, I do consider them the same thing) we are likely to come to a simple conclusion. We are going to become a space faring race.....one way or another. We just happen to be at the "Beginning" of what will probably be remembered as the Golden Age of exploration. I honestly believe there will come a time, perhaps 100 yrs. from now, when humans are routinely travelling to outposts or colonies on other worlds. This challenge has to start somewhere/sometime, and I see no reason it should not be now. The initial investments will be relatively small when compared to the payoff....at least our grandchildren will likely think so. Now it looks as though the Space Elevator will become a reality as well, which will speed up the proccess incredibly. Unfortunately this is still decades away, which makes commercial activity that much more important. Whoever makes the first Space Elevator, will have an anormous advantage over everyone who follows, and will in essence....Own Space.
  9. Most of Freud has been placed on the back burner of Psycology, as it likely should be. But as with most of science, much groundwork was laid out by one persons ability to explore something new. Had it not been for his research, the field of psycology would likely be quite different, if not inferior, than the current state.
  10. Each telescope on earth has a waiting list for use.....simply because there is so damn much we dont know. I think the Hubble has an important place in the future of cosmology, and astronomy. It would be a pity to surrender it to space and lose the capabilities it gives us. The next generation of space telescopes does indeed look very promising....including the Terrestrial Planet Finder. The apparent commitment to these "New" scopes does not, in my opinion, diminish the usefullness of Hubble.
  11. clubber = Danger Stranger
  12. I have had the Viel Nebula up for far too long....perhaps a change is in order.
  13. Hello, I am tecoyah, Simply intersted in figuring out the meaning of life. As religion has fallen quite short, I have come to rely on science as the means to most answers, and am quite pleased to have found this place.
  14. As with Anything that increases understanding, and opens up the dynamics of new technologies, the mapping of human structure will undoubtedly be insightful. We will likely take many decades to see dramatic results, but I don't see how the result could "Not" be productive.
