just a quick question: what is the difference between homogeneous mixture and a compound of any two or more elements?

hi, I just had a question that can I apply to two colleges at a same time through early action... and when I apply to either two or one colleges through early action, can I still apply to other colleges through regular action? thx -zixan

hey every1~! Over the summer I am kind of free and was wondering to get my hands dirty on a musical instrument. I like all kind of music, and all kinds of instruments... But I want to choose one instrument that is easier to learn... I am thinking about guitar.... but I am not sure whether it'd take me a lot of time.... What instrument do you recommend and why?

hi every1~! I was just curious that why everyone dies to get accepted into an ivy uni. Is it that unis have a big name which they can use to show off, and/or feel superior than others? Based on my experience, the only thing is the big name they have in most of the cases. I know a lot of people in my school who're taking ap classes just because to show off their transcript to teh college admission officers. What are your thoughts about it?

What's everyone taking in the fall 2006?

calculus computer prog stats spanish & virtual enterprise i am also doing some so-called research in math... i know i will surely have fun in calculus and computer prog.... but i am not too sure about stats and other stuff.... -
I contacted a few people over at NYU. Most of them did not reply, and one who did said the work he does is not handleable by a high school student. So, I don't think I could find a mentor who really can help me as my recent tries were unsuccessful.

hi every1~! I am a junior at high school, and I was thinking about doing intel project in physics over the summer. But I am not sure what should be the thesis of my project. I want my project to be completely theoretical; I may however use some experimental data to support my thesis. One reason for that I don't have any fancy machines to carry out the experiments by myself. So, do you guys have any idea as what I should look into? What should be the topic of my thesis? And idea/advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

hi every1~! I was just curious that what is the point of studying only integar solutions of a problem. One reason that comes up to my mind is that some irrational numbers have infinite numbers after decimal, so therefore it would be a problem to write an exact solution. But are there any more reasons that prevent us playing with other numbers?

heya every1~! My question is that why the intensity of electric fields is same at any point in teh field...??... Let's say an electron moves closer to the positive side of the field, would not the force of attraction be more on that electron than the one that is not as much closer to + side?...

heya every1~! I had a quiz on electric fields and circuits a few days ago, and I got it back today. I was surprised to see 9/10 score as my expectations were very low. I think my teacher mistakenly gave me points on a question... The question is: Two resistors are wired in series with 24 V battery. R1 = 9 ohms and R2 = 18 ohms. Find the current through R1, and the power of R2. I got 8/3 A for current, and 32 W for power....are these accurate answers?

heya every1~ Over the summer I plan to do some research in mathematics, but I am not sure which specific topic I should choose. I am looking for a topic that requires a lot of theoretical thinking, and can be useful in further research. Basically, my goal is to contribute something to the mathematicians of the world, whatever I can, which will be beneficial for every1~ Do you guys have any ideas in mind? What are your thoughts about this "wild" idea?

hi every!~ I am fella from the city of new york, and was wodering if any of you here know any science or math courses being offered in nyc over the summer. Ive checked all the cuny schools offering such courses through college now, but unfortunately all are out of space.. So, do you guys know any school, college, or uni that can help me conserve my momentum?

hi every1~ I am a junior at high school and now it is time to select courses for the next year. I am thinking about some AP courses that I want to take, not only because they're "AP Courses", but becuase I like to learn more about those areas of studies. However, I have a feeling that they would be too much overwhelming, as I have heard a couple of scarry stories from my friends. The courses include: bc calculus, ap stats, ap computer prog, and ap chem... Please share your thoughts... thanks!

Well, I don't even know myself what a magnetic computer is, I just heard about it from my physics teacher. But I have a feeling that he was referring to quanutm computer... Anyway, thanks for the response. Reffering to the friction question, how can we be sure the object which was rubbed has either positive or negative charges? My teacher told me something about atomic nature of the object, but I didn't "throughy" understand... Also, if you get chance, don't forget to answer other questions too... Thanks:-)

Hi, I just had a few questions regarding quantum computers AND charges.... Are the quantum computers same as the magnetic computers? If they are not, then do they have any similar property? And what is the orientation of binary language in magnetic computers? How do we know whether the electroscope has a positive or a negative charge, and how can a human body induce a charge since it's neutral. How working against friction charges a body, what's so special about friction in this case? And why would something light up as it gains enough charges? Thx.

I think therefore I am a scientist. -
Apporaching C from gravity/electromagnetic force?
computerages replied to GrandMasterK's topic in Relativity
How about a block hole? If light also can't escape from the gravational attractive forces of a black hole, then would not it be possible to reach c once you get closer to such a hole? -
hi every1~ This question came up during a discussion in my physics class about the doopler effect and how it implies to the universe. The question was how would be the universe like without any planets, and other physical phenomena. Since that time I've been wondering about this question, and haven't came up to an effective answer. But, to the extent of my limited understanding, I suspect the universe would be a "black hole". What do you guys think?

hi every1~ I had the following question on one of my physics quiz, and I need some explanation on how'd you answer it. "A bat detects an object 6 seconds after it emits a high frequency sound of 50,000Hz into aid at STP. How far away is the object from the bat?" That's how I solved the problem: [math] d=t*v=6*331=1986m=d [/math] But my teacher said that I was supposed to use 3 sec. instead of 6. As far as I am concerned, it can be because of taking three sec. to go forward, and the other three to move back. I am not sure what it really means, but just a thought.

AP Calculus BC is just an addition of a little a more advanced level studies in calculus to AB Course. IMP' date=' I don't see any major difference between the courses. Everything depends on how well prepare you are, which depends on how focus and devoted you are to your studies. However, it also has something to do with your intelligence. But in this case it doesn't have much effect as you'd probably (and you should) have courage to understand the analysis. Check out College Board's website for specific details.

What field of science are you in and why?

I'm into math, physics, and computer science. I also have love for other sciences, such as theology, political science, and monotheism etc. -
hi every1~ I am doing a research project and someone has told me that a basic knowledge of stats would be required during the research. I am not certain how the knowledge of stats would help me and how it has anything to do with my sci. reserach project. FYI, my research project is based on the study of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, and Lithium Ion Batteries. So far the previous research papers I've read have nothing to do with stats. But is there anything that I may encounter in the future? Thx.

The Thing - That's what I was suspecting but stupid review book was turning my off. Whatsoever, this mistake in the book has made realize again that everything I read in my textbooks are not to be treated as the "divine texts" revealed by God. Anybody, anywhere can prove them wrong using the power of knowledge. JustStuit - That means you're moving the ARM (or the terminal side) back to the origin. In other words, you're subtracting an incomplete third rotation to have the complete two rotations.
-
hi, I am having a little problem with conterminal angles. I know what they are as defined by my textbook as "...sum of there degree measure is 360 or a multiple of 360". But I am not certain about the "multipe of 360" part. According to what I've read, the rotation has to be multiple of 360. And that's pretty striaght-forward. But in the book following example contradicts the statement, as far as I am concerend: 870 - 360 = 510 510 - 360 = 150 It's stated that 870 and 150 are coterminal angles. But 870+150 =1020 / 3 =340; not 360.
