What does BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopaty) greatly differ from regular TSE (Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopaty)? What makes it such a sucessful virus?

Calculating concentraction of acid
hydraliskdragon replied to hydraliskdragon's topic in Inorganic Chemistry
How would you be able to determine the concentration of H2SO4 in H2O using pH indicator? -
Is there any methods in calculating the concentration of an acid?

Question about Chlorine Electrolisys (spell?)
hydraliskdragon replied to frosch45's topic in Inorganic Chemistry
The battery exploded due the fact that you were charging the nine volt battery. Some of the chlorous acid acted as an electroyte. I suggest you put a regulator diode or use a wallplug power source. What anode and cathod are you using? The green stuff is copper (II) chloride from the NaCl and Cu -
If you have some HCl, you could create a generous amount of hydrogen gas with Magnesium.

Gasoline is a bad idea. Electrical Arching in gasoline is the same thing as lighting a lighter in a propane tank. Motor oil has a substance preventing ignition. Dont do it.

Strange smell of Sulfuric Acid
hydraliskdragon replied to hydraliskdragon's topic in Inorganic Chemistry
There is a small plastic lid, but it does not contact the H2SO4. I had planned to cover it with teflon tape. Could this plastic be causing it? Would it contaminate the entire content of H2SO4 and make it unuseable? -
After storing Car Battery Sulfuric acid in a glass for about a day, I decided to open the jar. When I opened it, I smelled a very powerful chlorine like smell and is wondering what had happened. Is this a normal smell acompanied by this acid after storage in a glass container? Is there a risk of dangerous fumes? There seems to be a black pricipitate on the bottom. I think its lead dioxide.

What Are Some Fun Homemade Experiments?
hydraliskdragon replied to HornedWildebeas's topic in Experiments
Here's simple way to green flame. 1)Find a good power source around 5 to 19 volts DC at 50 to 100 mAh. 2) Set up a brine solution. 3) Obtain Copper and Steel. More surface area the better. 4) Attach the one electrodes from the power supply to copper and another to the steel. Make sure that the negetive is attached to steel. 5) Dunk the copper and steel in brine. 6) Go outside and turn on the power. This is because of Cl gas created. 7) Obtain green stuff and dry. 8) Burn it to create green flame -
I havent seen sulfuric acid refills. Anyways I finally got a maintainance free car battery. Does anyone know a safe method of draining the H2SO4 out of the battery? There are no visible vents and plugs that I can see. Change of plan. I've obtained about 250ml of sulfuric acid from the battery. It was a brown, oily colour when it came out. Is there a way to purify it then concentrate it?

Hmm, maybe I've been looking at the wrong place. Im going to search up local pumbing stores in hope to find that acid opener. Is it a 60 or 90% solution when you first bought it?
-
I've been through hundreds of hardware store and all they had was sodium hydroxide based opener. The best one was HCl but I had no use for it.
-
Well, the main problem is that I never seen H2SO4 in any stores but I did see HCl at the most. Also, transporting H2SO4 in Canada is strickly regulated. Calgary to be exact. PS. Hmm train opener... I assume it opens trains

Well, I had checked the voltage and amp, and it didn't seemed to be flat. If I was to oxidize the sulfur by burning it with pottasium nitrate procuring sulfur trioxide. And then spray mild H2SO4 on it, would I end up with pyrosulfuric acid (oleum)? Then mixing oleum with water should yield 98 to 99% sulfuric acid? (3)H2SO4+SO3 -> H2S2O7 (4)H2S2O7+H2O -> (2)H2SO4
-
Well this is how I got this liquid. First, I drilled into a VRLA battery (Valve Regulated Lead Acid battery) I then injected distilled water slowly to prevent over heating. Then I poured this unnamed liquid from the battery hoping that its a mild concentration of H2SO4 but there is no way of knowing for sure. Remember that VRLA batteries are nicknamed Acid Starved battery for obvious reason.

Does anyone know of a way to find out if an unidentifiable liquid is sulfuric acid? pH tester won't be much help in this situation.

Would it be possible to cultivate Clostridium Botulinum from common soil? I understand that it grows in an anarobic system. Would soil suspended in Canola Oil be put into a centrifuge to seperate Botulinum from organic matter? And in what enviroment does it grow the best in?

Thanks for the help Frosch45 and YT2095, Now I can finally, safely bubble SO2 in to H2O2! PS. What concentration of H2SO4 would I be ending up with, saying that the H2O2 would be about 15%?

The Monarch's larva feeds on milkweed and over time, their body becomes as toxic as the plant itself. If a person imbibes a venom of some snake over a long period of time, will he become immune to that snakes bite? And would his body have enough venom to be as toxic as the snake itself? Even powerful enough to hurt someone who touches his bodily fluid? ie, saliva, blood etc

This is a old topic but I still have one question to ask. Would someone elaborate the setup appature for bubbling SO2 in to H2O2? How would you burn the sulfur and direct the sulfuric dioxide into H2O2? Regards, Tim
