  1. How does this relate to the square "gene tables" I've seen? - - H - h - - H- HH-Hh - -------- h -hH-hh
  2. Technically there is a bit of right in what layman77 says. Caucasoids, Negroids, and Mongloids each have slight differences in the cranial features. When a body is found, generally the "race" of the person can be approximated by these differences.
  3. The only information I could find on the subject.
  4. Everything is immortal until it encounters a mortal wound. By everything, of course, I consider the image of multi-cellular organisms as "kingdoms." If the population of a kingdom is low enough, it will starve because it cannot provide enough food and protection of its people. If all the members of the kingdom are immortal and do not suffer wounds, then the kingdom is immortal. We are not a thing but a collection of things that work together for the survival of the whole organism.
  5. I wandered outside into my backyard this morning. The intense heat had caused most of our grass to wither and die. To my surprise, I found two "baby" mango trees growing along our fence in good condition. I wondered whether I could grow them hydroponically in my aquarium. As I'm typing this, my hands are still dirty from digging them up. I have a 50 gallon tank running on a dual filter. I put one plant in each portion of the filter and have it rigged up according to information I found on Wikipedia. I have a turtle and a school of goldfish I use for naturally skeletonizing remains of small animals, so a great amount of waste is generated. Will the plants be able to survive and thrive on this alone, or do they need additional nutrients?
  6. Oh! So we're speaking of things like an allergic reaction to latex/oral contraceptives. Thanks, I get it now. I thought it meant that latex condoms or oral contraceptives don't "work" effectively. Is there really any evidence that those with an intolerance to latex or oral contraceptives have a higher rate of pregnancy? Besides, can't an in utero contraceptive also be used in areas where it is available?
  7. Depends on what you call a "bad" decision or "poor thinking." From an evolutionary standpoint, it makes sense. Avoidance of risk and such.
  8. This is probably more of a lingual or psychological question. But other things are called "beings" as well, it's just not that commonly used. I suppose a layperson would consider a "being" a creature of sentience - if not a human, than an extraterrestrial alien or "mutant" life form.
  9. Cardenolide aglycones "stored" by the Monarch (Danaus plexippus) are lipids. Snake's venom, as previously mentioned, is supposedly a protein. The Cardenolides are sequestered and stored away in the body of the Monarch. The body would have to have the ability to sequester these toxins and store them away until they are broken down by digestion by other organisms (such as birds in the case of Monarchs). Now, immunities and resistances are possible - I believe I've heard of an instance in which a human male gained immunity/resistance to certain types of snake toxin - but it would be a different process entirely.
  10. Blue (or lightly colored) eyes don't seem to offer much of an advantage. I know an individual with "seafoam" colored eyes. His mother has the same trait. He has to wear sunglasses in intense sunlight otherwise he has a hard time seeing. Perhaps it might be an advantage in areas with lower levels of sunlight, but in my (amateur) opinion it appears to be something that developed as a result of the fact that there is less sunlight in northern environments and thus the trait was not much of a hindrance.
  11. Forgive me, but what precisely do you mean by "intolerance"?
  12. I'm curious as to the process of how eukaryotes combine and chromosomes. For example, a human male gamete and a human female gamete combine. What exactly happens during this process? How are the chromosomes that are inherited determined, and are they the only determination?
