Being objective is required by not assuming something that is not objective.. like a designer...

Not the same thing as an intelligent designer...

I remember a book with that premise! Reality only existed when god wasn't watching, when he was looking only what what was in his direct frame of sight was real, he had to be put back to sleep...

It suffers from the same problem, it equates the emergence of life to something predetermined or intentional. The reality is simply energy gradients and complex chemistry. I would honestly expect life to arise where ever enough energy and chemistry of sufficient complexity occur.

I have wondered about the hypothesis of a black hole tearing a hole in our universe and creating another one. It does raise problems of infinite energy as well but it seems reasonable to me that a tear in space time might release far more energy than it took to create it...

Yeah.. what he said... I take offence at the comparison of gun ownership to rape, it wouldn't matter to a rapist how a woman is dressed or anything else. You have a point about the police taking a bum rap in some cases but in others the outrage is more than justified. I wonder if what we are seeing is just the result of more people having cameras or more police violence. It's really difficult for me as a reasonable man to be sure, I've seen some violent police officers and I've seen some take abuse I could never have put up with. I do think this is something we should all be very careful about jumping to conclusions, the populace here is quite well armed but you don't see any or at least not much violence. Even gangs seem subdued here for some reason, it's almost weird to read about what is happening elsewhere and wonder why not here... I can say that here when the police are called they show up fast and in large numbers, maybe that is a clue...

At some point it's ok to just say "I don't know" ...

What created the creator that created the creator that created the creator... ect... You are equating creation as some sort of power with intent. It's really not honest to even use the term creation, that implies a creator, the word reality is more to the point. There is no reason to assume a creator or to assume there is not one, so assuming either is an assertion that needs to be supported with evidence. All we have is reality, that reality can be traced back to a certain point, it's not even clear if it's proper to think of a time before T=0 There are some hypothesis about that possibility but none have supporting evidence and are mostly just speculation. The genesis of life is relatively well known compared to the start of the universe, the chemical reactions necessary to bring about abiogenesis have some pretty good theoretical footing. Assertions about creators or creation are just place holders for ignorance...

Chemistry gave rise to the first replicating chemicals, I'm not sure what you are asserting here...

Most probably, although I'm not sure it's not more of a better safe than sorry mentality. Sadly most gun owners are somewhat less than qualified to own guns or even understand the why of owning a gun. A great deal of it I think has to do some sort of macho image being associated with guns.

Damn, if that's true I must hate myself...

Actually gun collectors are quite common here, I know of a few who don't even buy ammo for the guns... I spend all my spare change on aquariums...

Again, there is no atmosphere of paranoia that I see where I live, it might be different in other areas. Then again I am one of those people who talks to strangers anytime I get the chance so maybe i am just not seeing it. But no one carries assault rifles around in public and the idea of opposing the government is a nonstarter, when the gov can put a missile in your living room window from a hundred miles away an assault rifle becomes useless. BTW it's illegal here to carry a long gun around in public, and hand guns must be concealed although that is debatable in the hot summer...

I am not so sure, where I live many people choose to carry guns, it is seriously one of the most polite areas I know of. Of course I can't hardly walk past someone without speaking but I feel no fear out in public. This is a very calm place to live, crime is rare but not unheard of, sadly most of the crime is, as expected, centered in poorer neighborhoods...

I am an omnivore, I like vegetables but I love meat, I probably eat more vegetables than meat but meat is important especially sea food!

I have given some more thought to this and again I would separate out hand guns from long guns, possibly even shotguns from other long guns. a year ago or so a young man, no doubt in some desperation, broke into a local home and stole a gun, a hand gun, a .45 caliber automatic. He literally jumped my fence ran through my yard so fast my dogs hardly had time to look up and he was gone. The compact size of the gun contributed mightily to it's danger, it was easy for him to steal, readily sold for cash, and not much use for anything but fear tactics unless you are well trained. I thought long and hard that day about what I would or could have done, I saw the gun, it was relatively obvious he was running from something to powerful to confront with a gun. What if anything should I have done? Confront him? Not even on a dare. I realized after the fact I had done the correct thing in simply watching him run. He was caught, no doubt is in jail right now, I told the police what I saw, they were nice and polite and I never even had to go to court. The drug bust I mentioned before was totally different but it would still have been an insane act to have tried to intervene in both cases. Some people in my circle of friends seemed to think I should have done something, I think I did do something, the correct thing in fact, but someone breaking into my house is still a different animal.

Why it was possible for dinosaurs to exist ?

How did this mammal exist! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paraceratherium -
I watched the talk by a NASA scientist any the consensus was that such planets would be more common than earth, if for no other reason than it broadens the life zone around stars. Couple that with hydrogen being the most common element in the universe and the fact that it could be used as a breathing gas would seem to open up lots of possibilities that were not known when calculations about life in the universe was made...

Why haven't we found intelligent life on other planets?
Moontanman replied to seriously disabled's topic in Biology
There is also the problem of interstellar gas and dust absorbing the signal leakage from our planet. It's doubtful that a civilization around the nearest star could hear our leakage. We would have to beam a powerful signal right at them to be detected... -
Great movie, I am looking forward to the sequel

Sometimes I think that a time machine that could take you to the future would be a very bad idea, it becomes more apparent everyday all we would find is a medieval world ruled by religion and the technology to make sure it could never change...
