Well I am not one of those fucktards that put a sign in the yard proclaiming a gun lives here..

Please see the above link...

Nothing quite gets attention like the sound of a shell being chambered in a pump shot gun... In fact I would assert that a shotgun is the best weapon to have for home defense, easy to use, intimidating to law breakers with three brain cells to rub together, and less likely to kill someone several blocks away if you miss.. .

Nominations for stupidest political act of the year so far...

I agree, but saying one politician lies more than another is silly.. -
I too thinks me smell a sock puppet...

They are politicians, politicians lie, that is what they do, if they told the truth they would be run out of town on a rail.. -
Oh please, I have been specific in this very tread, do I really have to drag out the links yet again? http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/cruelty/nt_list.html

We are to hell and gone from the OP, I think that what happened in Dallas was not a surprise, it has happened in the past when class warfare has gone to far and it will continue to happen as long as the 1% is allowed to shit all over the rest of us. Yes, I think it is ultimately a class warfare issue, when so much wealth is concentrated on a very few and the rest are left with nothing the torches and pitch forks are inevitable. The fact of such wide spread police brutality is simply the spark that lights the fuse. We have been heading down this road along time, pretending to be surprised doesn't look good on the powers that be. Eventually the game of playing off various demographics against each other to take away from the real problems will grow old, then the excrement will com in contact with the rotating air movement device in a huge way...

You seem to be reading something into this that is not in the text. I see no reason to have a bigger gun, I have a gun that uses cheap ammo and is as safe to use as possible. My neighbors are not the problem and as I said having a bigger gun doesn't figure into it...
-
Yet you ignore the flaws and the fact that very few people think of it in any terms other than religion and use their interpretation to allow them to dominate others? Can we say cherry picking?
-
So you are taking the stance that statistics say that having a gun is more dangerous than not having one? Do you think the type of gun and the training of the individual with the gun have no bearing?
-
I have often thought about it from your point of view as well, to me the idea of sneaking in someones house is unthinkable. But to someone who is committing such a crime in my mind I see them as being analytical and passing by difficult houses to pick the low hanging fruit... Quite possibly I give them too much credit but it's difficult to see it any other way..

This is interesting: http://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/gun-control-myths-realities This is an odd mish mash of statistics: http://www.factcheck.org/2015/10/gun-laws-deaths-and-crimes/ I honestly think that my dogs have prevented me from being a victim at least twice over the years. One neighborhood I lived in many years ago had a rash of breakins. The houses on both sides of my and across the street from me had break ins as well as several other homes in the area.. All I got was barking dogs complaints... On the other hand my pocket knife must be rather awesome, I was digging for change one day a few years ago and put everything in my pockets on the counter to get to the change and the girl at the register almost fainted dead away when she saw my buck knife..
-
Then death is a occupational hazard he must be ready to deal with, is anyone really willing to rely on the good will of a criminal to protect them? Well since I would not be armed other than my pocket knife I would have little choice but to give the mugger what they want..
-
I think we are arguing past each other, I see no reason to carry a weapon outside my house, I don't expect to encounter a terrorist at the local Piggly Wiggly and if i did I doubt very much that me having a gun would make any difference... If confronted by a robber outside my home I would give him my wallet and report my loss to the police...

I disagree, if the god of the bible is real and he has the attributes his fan club gives him then supporting slavery is a very puzzling thing, Jesus, while not exactly the same as the god of the OT does make some critical errors that should have been easy for omnipotent being to deal with. Saying that slavery is a cultural issue is a cop out. The whole purpose of spreading religion is to change culture to the standards god wants, from that perspective god is either a raving psychopathic monster or nothing but a made up reflection of the horrible morality of the times...

It wouldn't be a deadly battle, it would be me telling the perpetrator to leave and informing him the law has been called, if he leaves then we are cool, if he doesn't one good shot gun blast to his torso will solve the issue. Most if not all burglars understand the game they are playing but as I have said in the past my hounds are a first line alarm, someone just walking through the yard brings them to attention from a dead sleep. Even someone they know is greeted by howls and barking that sounds like the hounds of the baskervilles are loose... To be honest I wish I didn't need it but drug gangs are difficult to negotiate with. My wife insists that I keep the gun even though we live in a much better neighborhood now.

I would like to say up front that killing someone over property is something I would not do..
-
I openly admit my shot gun is designed for home defense, in fact I had sold all my guns until about 5 years ago when I helped the police take down a drug ring in my neighborhood, the sheriff went out of his way to advise me to buy a gun for home protection since the bad guys knew who it was that turned them in. It's long drawn out story I won't share here due to space but it involved the feds (sort of) the sheriff, local meth runners and resulted in bullet holes in my house. But one summer I mowed my lawn while carrying a 12 gauge shot gun loaded for bear. It kinda gets your knickers in a knot when car loads of gang bangers drive by real slow pointing guns at you... I have since moved from that area...

Burglary and a home invasion are different animals, a burglar sneaks into a place and relies on stealth and cunning to get in and out fast with out being caught. A home invasion is nothing less than beating down the door and coming in to terrorise the home owner while you rob them. I think the home invader gets off on the power play of tying up his victims and often abusing them in front of each other. But, I have to admit if I caught someone in my house they would be confronted by me wielding a shot gun, I would give them the option of leaving or dying unless they pointed a weapon at me, then all bets are off...

I grew up with guns, guns are not toys, they are more like power tools, you keep them out of the hands of those who do not know or are too immature to use them properly. Are the statistics you are looking at divided by hand guns and long guns? Hand guns, even in the hands of trained law enforcement officers, are simply an accident waiting to happen. Far to easy to look at hand guns as toys, hell we give them to our children to play with! Yet another take on this is a gun in the hands of someone who really doesn't know anything but the basics of load point and shoot. As I said I grew up with guns, had my first shotgun when I was 12, I bought it myself at the feed store. It was along ass walk to that feed store, I lived in the boonies. I even took my gun to school few times because some of my friends were going quail hunting after school. I walked in put it in my locker and left it there until school was out and got back on the bus to ride to a friends house. That was a different time, no one really thought about school shootings or anything like that... But I grew up being taught the right and wrongs of guns and doing something wrong with a gun brought swift punishment. I doubt that many people today who own guns had anything but the most meager training on how to use guns, they certainly act awfully cavalier about them... To me it is a lot like owning or handling a poisonous snake, as long as you do it correctly no worries, but if you don't know how the learning curve can be quite steep, better to learn how before picking up the real mccoy...

Seriously? You don't know about the slavery issues and Jesus lied about when he was coming back? He told people not to wash their hands at a time when disease was rampant? There is more but do I really have to point these things out to a Christian? I am an atheist and I have studied this backwards and forwards, I did not take the stance of atheism one morning because I stubbed my toe and blamed god...

I am arguing that religion is nothing but mythology and following a book written by people who lived thousands of years ago is nuts. Even the NT fails, it supports slavery, suppresses women, I see no reason to go back to dueling scriptures, it you know your own holy book then you know the "bad parts" I get tired of pointing them out to be honest... The reason for Jesus was to forgive original sin, he was the perfect sacrifice to atone for that original sin which is immoral to start with. No one should be held accountable for the sins of their fathers..

Actually in my own town which is a smallish college town and quite liberal compared to the rest of the south home invasions almost always result in harm to the home owners from rape to just being beat down severely. If you break into my house I assume you mean to do me bodily harm. I do take some measures to make my house less attractive to invaders which are somewhat different than simple burglary. I doubt someone could sneak into my house, I am quite sure my hounds would raise the alarm way before they got inside.. But to beat down someone's door and come inside to me means they intend to do bodily harm.. they are screwed...

I honestly do not understand the mind set behind shooting innocent people, the Dallas shootings do not come as a surprise to me. In fact would say this has been building for quite some time. I live in a city that back during the time of MLK saw ambush style shootings of the fire department. The perpetrators would set a fire and wait for the fire department and then fire on the fire fighters. When people are pushed to near their limit of what they feel like is persecution you can expect members of that group to have lower flash points than the majority of the people who feel they are being treated badly. I have seen some very disturbing videos over the past few years of police brutality, before the ease of videoing someone you did hear of police brutality but most rational people dismissed it. The idea that our law enforcement could be guilt of so many infractions was just too much to wrap your head around. But now the actual incidents can be seen, often well before the police can even react to the charges. Not surprised, appalled for sure, but I do expect more of it before it stops..
