I seriously doubt that taking the weight of the oxygen away will make a significant difference...

I'd be willing to bet that there is not enough uranium in the Earth's crust to move a significant amount of CO2 to the moon...

Welcome to the club, I've endured them nearly all my life, nearly every night when I was a kid, less often as I grew older, (I don't know what word I was trying to use here, I have a bad toothache and I think I was a bit less than lucid) up and lucid dreaming and you can have some fun!

I wouldn't say it's impossible, highly improbable is a better way to put it...

Humans are predators, killing is part of our instinctive behavior, I see nothing wrong with killing animals for food.... -

I tend to agree that just killing things for fun is somewhat less than sane but unless you have a different solution to the real problems we face then you are part of the problem... -

What would you recommend as a solution to the problem? -

Moontanman replied to zacocom's topic in Ecology and the Environment
You are correct they are rare and they are rare because their population is low, in my town we usually have a bear or two wander into town each year, they are tranquilized and released back in the green swamp, nearly every parking lot drainage pond has an alligator or two. An attack, even if not fatal, is devastating but 130 people are killed by accidentally hitting a deer.... -

Moontanman replied to zacocom's topic in Ecology and the Environment
Maybe I was unclear, where top predators are no longer a factor, humans have become the top predator, deer for instance are a menace in some areas because they are prone to being hit by cars often doing considerable damage and sometimes killing the people in the cars. Top predators if allowed to live unchecked can result in the death of humans. In North America mountain lions and bears kill people every year, in fact the smaller bear species, the black bear, result in more attacks than the larger grizzly bears. I was not pretending hunting was primarily for reducing suffering of animals although the result of not hunting does result in starvation and being hit by cars as well. In many areas of the US hunting seasons have been lengthened due to overpopulation of animals like deer. The idea that predators do not attack humans due to some innate fear of humans somewhat exaggerated. It is true that humans created the problem by killing off the top predators for fur, meat, and sport but the solution is not allowing top predators to roam the streets. This is true, the deer with the biggest antlers is sought out over the deer that has smaller antlers and antler size is one sign of health. It works that way with fish too, we have unwittingly selected for fish that spawn at an earlier age and smaller size do to the practice of throwing the small ones back in favor of keeping the big ones... -
Water melon - natural way to disseminate seeds?
Moontanman replied to CaptainPanic's topic in Biology
The animals that disperse some seeds no longer exist and many plants have evolved seeds that survive the digestive tracts of many animals Peppers, for instance are evolved to be dispersed by birds, the Capsicum that makes them hot has little to no effect on birds. Mammoths are thought to have dispersed avocado seeds, now humans do it. Berries like dewberries or blackberries are dispersed in the excrement of birds. Where i live if you want dewberries the best place to look is under power lines or fences where birds naturally congregate to rest. -

I'll ask you again: Do you understand that not hunting results in far more suffering in the long run than hunting? Populations of animals get out of control and eat all the available food and then starve. The ecosystem needs a top predator to remain in a healthy balance, if you allow natural predators to do this then you would have to have top predators in areas where humans live. Are you willing to tolerate the occasional child to be taken by a bear or mountain lion? When you are out enjoying a nature trail or jogging are you willing to risk being prey? I know lots of hunters, I used to hunt, I also fish and I eat what I catch, should I be labeled as insane because i enjoy those things? -
Advanced life with no intelligence? Are we talking about space termites? Or space faring ants? (I wanted to say we are already here but it seeme a bit trollish lol)

You could have the answer but I just drained the big tank (360 gallons) which I drained and cleaned out about a month ago and the bottom was covered in plum pits, even though I was being careful to scoop out all the floating plums each morning. The 60 gallon tank was aerated and a flathead catfish is famous for living in levels of low oxygen that would kill most other fish, the plum pits is the only answer I can come up with, they contain cyanide... The smaller tank had been drained and refilled just a day ago but I left the sand on the bottom along with a lot of accumulated organic material, usually this is a good thing but not evidently when the organic material is plum pits... I decided to just move them all, it's a pain and the location under the tree was perfect as far as shade and sunlight was concerned not to mention electrical access but I can't deal with failing daphnia cultures, I need them for fish food.

A couple days ago while collecting a flathead catfish came up in the net and i brought it home looking to make a pet out of him. He sat for two days on my deck in a kiddie wading pool while i got his tank ready. The tank is a 60 gallon metal framed tank I've kept fish in for over 40 years off and on and in recent years has been a daphnia vat. I drained all the old water out of the tank and refilled it and let it set overnight under aeration, about mid morning i went out and found about a half dozen plums floating at the surface so i removed them and caught the flathead and put him in the tank, a couple hours later he was dead, we are talking about a 10" flathead, he was fat and sassy when i put him the tank and a couple hours later he was stiff as a board with his gills flared out. I haven't been able to grow any daphnia in the vats under this tree since I moved here and my paddlefish died when left in a 360 gallon tank under that tree. What could possibly be the problem here?

Ummm, speed is limited by the speed of the exhaust? You cannot exceed the speed of your exhaust particles? You sure about that? Continuous thrust even of relatively slow exhaust speeds should add up over time to allow the rocket to exceed its exhaust velocity.

Multi generational ships would not have to be completely self contained and only short hops from one stars oort cloud to another need be made. I think it's doubtful aliens would be interested in planets, artificial colonies powered by fusion would be more likely. So the idea of aliens on the earth would also assume they look like us which is highly unlikely.. For a hop to other stars oort cloud you could use a long period comet, accelerate it enough so that it escapes the host star and ride along with it using it's mass to replace volatiles lost to space and the adjust for other losses in your colonies ecosystem. Decelerate your colony, but not the comet, when you get to the next stars oort cloud and start making more colonies, travel times might be hundreds or even thousands of years but you are not looking for anything other than raw materials, whether or not a star has a habitable planet is not part of the equation so nearly all stars are on the menu sotospeak.... Fusion is the biggest assumption and of course we'll have that in 20 years or so... for sure...

I've found another possibility, it would seem that outdoor heaters of some sort are common there and when the sea water runs into them they give off a puff of dense steam. It could account for all three of the "clouds" ... Looks like a shadow or a camera artifact to me, I can barely make it out at all..

I see your point but near the end what appears to be the same object rises from behind a roof top. At around 04:00 I've seen the "entity" ideas on you tube, I was hoping to keep it to more plausible possibilities, I have to admit I haven't seen any other such videos can you share a link?

I've watched this many times and I still can't really tell what this is, I was thinking seafoam at one point of a piece of plastic but that just does quite fit the observation, anyone else want to give it a try? The first really good view of it is at around 02:28
