Sea salt does indeed taste different than mined salt and for good reason, mined salt is heavier in sodium than sea salt freshly evaporated from the sea. Sea salt has a more bitter metallic taste due to a higher concentrations of other salts. Salt that is naturally formed separates out naturally to some extent and the other ions are processed out of mined salt. http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/expert-answers/sea-salt/faq-20058512

White spots on Ceres - new hi-res images are inconclusive
Moontanman replied to CaptainPanic's topic in Science News
It would be highly ironic, in one report NASA reported the spots continued to glow after they rotated into shadow. -
A new study has identified the gene involved in a mutation that allows humans to tolerate high levels of arsenic in Andean villagers exposed for thousands of years to very high arsenic levels. http://www.the-scientist.com/?articles.view/articleNo/43019/title/Adapting-to-Arsenic/ By Ashley P. An exoplanet study by MIT suggests that rocky Earth sized worlds are likely to be in stable circular orbits similar to the Earth's orbit around the Sun. Many larger exoplanets have orbits wildly out of sync with the regular orbits of our own solar system. This study suggest that more Earth sized planets with regular circular orbits maybe closer to the norm for planets in that size range. http://www.gizmag.com/earth-sized-exoplanets-circular-orbits/37815/

Lasers are finally coming of age, directed energy weapons small enough and powerful enough to be practical are finally coming of age. The ability to shoot down incoming artillery rounds and other targets from a small mobile platform is going to start a new chapter in defensive warfare.. http://www.scientifi...apons-get-real/ Quote

Towards the end of the video he gives some data about spectral peaks that indicate deuterium is being produced. I thought maybe the glow had to do with the high currents he was using, as much as 350 volts DC. Thank you for looking.

I know this is a 30 minute video but this guy seems to know what he is talking about and claims to be producing deuterium from regular water via electrolysis. I would really like to know what he is on about. When I was in HS I observed this same effect or at least it looked the same when I was producing chlorine gas. ( I got in trouble for it, lol) Oh well if anyone gets the chance I'd like to know what he is doing...

If a two dimensional object that is 2 x 2 inches has four square inches and a 2 inch cube has 8 cubic inches how many would a four dimensional object that is 2 inches on each side hold? Would it be proper to assume it would have 16 cubic inches or would it contain another measurement like 16 tesseracts?

There is an hypothesis that planets like the earth are fission powered.. http://www.rense.com/general25/vore.htm

Can you repost that link? I still think that asserting that aliens colonising the galaxy are likely to ignore planets is the most supportable speculation regarding colonization of the galaxy, in fact I would go so far as to say that stars with vast asteroid fields would be most desirable and that voyages of thousands of years would be trivial considering you would be essentially taking your planet with you..

Wait! What? No one told me we get housekeepers!

It really brought the past to life for me, I used to sit around the fireplace when i was a kid with my grandfather and listen to all his stories about the early 20th century...

This old film is fascinating, it was filmed the year my grandfather was born!

Albino wood roach changing colour
Moontanman replied to hypervalent_iodine's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
I found an albino palmetto bug (southern for cockroach) it was in a dark pit that was only lit up every few years for inspection when it was opened. The roach was snow white and never changed color the few hours i had it. Possibly yours was another color mutation or they were simply different species... -
Can you elaborate on that, I see no reference to impossible or possible in your link. Can you elaborate on that as well? So far all i can see that prevents a human chimp hybrid is whistling in the dark....

Inbreeding? I would think that is about as far from inbreeding as you can get...

It could turn out like a mule, superior in many ways than either parent...

You are welcome to grab a female chimp and give it a whirl....

Image: Saturn's sponge-like moon Hyperion
Moontanman replied to Robittybob1's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
No, it's some form of fossilized coral or colonial tube worms, all the tubes are more or less parallel, I have quite a large collection, i've been collecting them for more than 40 years... some are as big as basket balls but most while large are irregular shaped.. -

I have several rocks i collected from the ocean that have that texture, you can pour water through them, the resemblance is amazing... -
You are correct, I am a Treker, the Prime Directive is just another way of asserting the zoo hypothesis which I would find amazing if true. For some reason, which puzzles me, many people ascribe some sort of superior morality to advanced aliens.. I doubt this.. If FTL is possible, and as much as i would love it i think it's an incredibly thin possibility, but if it is i would expect the equivalent of an old tramp steamer showing up looking for new trade partners to be more likely than the gunboat diplomacy of Star trek....

If you were in an atmosphere of pure water vapor you could suffocate but that is not possible under the conditions set forth by your in your OP...
