  1. You realize that because neither the Earth or the Moon are perfect spheres your calculations are meaningless?
  2. You do not know where life came from, "god did it" is not an answer to anything, if "god did it" was an answer we would still think lightning bolts were the power of god, I suggest you go to the religious forum and start a thread there... I suggest http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/abioprob/ as a good starting place or if you prefer videos this is good place to start... http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL82yk73N8eoX8RpvQfjdupAKFWKjtMhTe Abiogenesis is a complex topic and cannot be covered in one post...
  3. While at this moment in time the origin of life cannot be completely explained that does not mean it is not being worked on and, quite successfully by the way, your lack of knowledge of the current state of research into abiogenesis does not give you leave to just say "god did it"...
  4. No actually it does not, there is quite a large amount of evidence of how life began but evolution has an overwhelming amount of evidence as the explanation for the diversity of life. It is evidently not true that all life was magically created as "seen" by a magical force...
  5. How does your idea account for all the millions of other objects in the solar system as well as the hundreds extra solar planets that have been discovered?
  6. Any chance you could use spell checker and provide some evidence of your claims? The evidence does not point to everything being created at once, in fact evolution could be destroyed if such evidence was presented but no bunny rabbits in the Cambrian none at all...
  7. Uh Oh you noticed, don't worry mate, it'll all be over soon...
  8. So in reality none of this really meant anything but a away to get a rise out of people by building strawmen you could really easily kick down... good job that...
  9. No, there are some nice videos on you tube that tries to illustrate this visually but it is not simple...
  10. That would be cool...
  11. Panspermia is not exactly mainstream science. Here is a link to get you started... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abiogenesis
  12. Hard to really say, it would depend on how dark the surface was at the spot you were measuring. During the day ice would sublime into vapor very rapidly, since water is a poor shield for radiation it would have to be quite thick. The vapor would disperse immediately into the general atmosphere of the moon, yes the moon does have an atmosphere but it is equal to a very good vacuum on the earth. Plants have been grown in the Regolith of the moon that was brought back to earth... I'd like to see those plans... It is a mystery... I have no idea what an H3 reactor is...
  13. I was under the impression that some models do seem to indicate that cooling, at least localized cooling is likely if average global temperatures do go up, disrupting the Gulf stream, as John mentioned could have that effect.
  14. I agree with Ophiolite, please stay and discuss, not being right is only a bad thing if you don't know it. I know that one of the original ideas about the origin of the asteroids was a disrupted planet and there are still some intriquing ideas around that hypothesis. Like Ophiolite I need some clarification around the Jupiter's red spot before i can understand what you are asserting...
  15. I don't see how being obligated to ourselves is a problem. Why should something after death "be" much less be something we are responsible to and why shouldn't being responsible to ourselves ultimately be the most important thing? I have to live in my own skin, I know what is right and what is wrong both internally and externally, they might not always agree but not being ashamed of my own actions is far more important than what some "thing" outside of reality feels about "me".
  16. Phosphoric acid does the job quite well, several different brand names are widely sold...
  17. While I agree with the idea that naming popular people as gods is a misnomer at best I can remember when I was a kid the religious fundamentalists having their collective panties in a knot over various music idols like Elvis and others claiming they were Idols in the literal sense and that the people who liked them were literally worshiping them.
  18. No, faith based conclusions are not allowed in science, I really don't see why you are claiming this...
  19. So no tiny giraffes? Rays have such a long life span breeding for small size would take a long time as would many other large fish.
  20. Could mushrooms explain the Santa myth? http://www.livescience.com/42077-8-ways-mushrooms-explain-santa.html?cmpid=556093

    GMO pets

While most people think of GMO as food crops I have been thinking of GMO pets, specifically aquarium fishes. If you could modify the genes of certain fish to make them smaller as adults it would be highly profitable. Stingrays are very popular but most quickly outgrow all but the largest tanks. A freshwater ray that stayed less than 6" across the disc would be highly sought after. Other freshwater fishes of unusual types such as sturgeon or paddle fish would also bring big returns. Sharks would be a bit more difficult for freshwater but even saltwater sharks that were small as adults would bring a high demand. many fish would work although some are already being sold they soon die of being in a restricted space and altering them so as to get much smaller adults. Aquarium fish are a big industry, billions of dollars in sales, and dwarf fish of normally large species would be very popular. Is this a pipe dream or would it be reasonable to do this?
  24. I'd go with CPVC at least, it's high temperature resistant and corrosion resistant... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chlorinated_polyvinyl_chloride
