  1. No, you don't get to proclaim that without some evidence, in fact there are other schools of thought that say hormonal imbalances in the womb are a major cause of homosexuality. Again, you have made a positive assertion and by the rules you need to back this up by evidence not by simply asserting it as truth. Any poll you might make with the general population is indeed biased by cultural demands and in our western world those demands are generally based in religion. You keep making these assertions about what other heterosexual or homosexual people feel but you provide no evidence to back it up. In fact I really don't understand your position on this and why you are so emotional about it.
  2. TAR2, we have discussed the natural origin of morals and social behavior here so many times and you want to give the idea of a god credit for those things that occur naturally in social animals like humans? I have to ask why?
  3. That neg point was a mistake bignose, someone please give him a pos rep to cancel it out. Hitting Mars with comets is a way to add volatiles to the planet which is one thing it lacks and makes it inhospitable to earth life. Additional CO2, water, ammonia, and methane ices are one way to terraform Mars.
  4. A great deal of land is not suitable for growing plants humans can eat, grazing animals raised on this land are a reasonable way to use that land. No matter where you live rats and mice must be controlled to prevent ruining a great deal of grain or other plant foods. I don't see how these things can be disputed and organic farming is not as efficient at producing food as you seem to think, I grew up on a farm, pests are a real problem and must be controlled even on organic farms by natural insecticides. Not using any insecticides is a good way to have zero crops...
  5. A possible new type of dark matter, sounds more than a bit like Mirror Matter to me. http://www.space.com/21508-dark-matter-atoms-disks.html?cmpid=514630 Mirror Matter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirror_matter I've communicated several times with a leading proponent of Mirror Matter, Robert Foot, about ways to collect Mirror Matter that has fallen to Earth, the ease of detection depends on parameters that have yet to established but it is possible that Mirror Matter space dust falls to earth and could be found under certain circumstances.
  6. http://theconversation.com/ordering-the-vegetarian-meal-theres-more-animal-blood-on-your-hands-4659 Eating vegetarian could result in more blood on your hands than being the omnivores humans naturally are. Eating vegan can result in far more sentient animals deaths than our current practices of eating red meat.
  7. Do we have the ability to shoot missiles out of Earth orbit? ICBMs cannot leave Earth orbit, so where do you get the missiles to hit the comet?
  8. A a dress rehearsal for deflecting a comet from Earth do we currently have the ability to affect the course of this comet so it actually hits Mars? It has a 1/2000 chance of hitting the red planet but it will pass very close for sure. Should we if we could? It could be the first step in terraforming Mars.
  9. Your propensity for ignore questions or points made by others by obfuscation is disturbing, you keep making claims but never give examples nor do you give answers, this sets off my bullshit meter immediately, that of course doesn't make what you say bullshit but it very closely resembles horsefeathers for sure... Well, at least you are honest about that... but the implied insult is disturbing... is that your normal methodology?
  10. You realize this idea of "metaphysics" is as wide open for misuse as religion? Can you give me an example of a theory you have refuted?
  11. No, this is demonstrably not true, a great many things that were once unanswerable but are now well known. This makes no sense to me, how can materialism not be the most probable explanation for reality? Ever hear of the shotgun test? Yet those gaps continually get smaller and smaller, this has sounded the death toll for fundamentalist religion, their only escape is to flee where the gaps are and slowly be squeezed into oblivion. The idea of some place outside of reality is in my estimation dishonest and is the last hope of the dishonest to shore up their credibility..
  12. At one time the idea of rocks falling from the sky was considered nonsensical, people who knew the world said there was no way rocks could fall from the sky and could make all sorts of arguments as why that had to be true none of which could be tested. That sounds like metaphysics to me, asserting something as fact with no evidence to back it up, yet rocks continued to fall from the sky... Actually since it is at least hypothetically possible to travel faster than light I would have to say your assertion is not exactly rock solid... I can honestly say i have never heard metaphysics described in this fashion, in fact since religion is metaphysics it still comes back to arguing things are true with no evidence to back them up. I have never read of probability being involved but as i have often said new knowledge is always welcome in my brain, still your argument does little to convince me that metaphysics has any positive influence in the real world. It still sounds like pure speculation, in fact I think I could make a pretty good case for UFOs being alien space craft and stay within the bounds of "metaphysics"....
  13. Ok, but is it correct to assert this will always be the case? That seems to be what metaphysics is about, or at least my take on it. The idea that some things are unknowable and therefore can be asserted with no evidence other than those assertions is not logical. In fact I would say it is nonsensical to assert anything there is no evidence for as truth or knowledge,
  14. So you are saying the speed of light is untestable? Or that the assumption the speed of light is always c is untestable if you can't be two places at once or communicate faster than c?
  15. I'm not sure what you mean, please elaborate. Are you making an unfounded assertion, much like the god botherers do, that these gaps are forever closed to science? How can you assert that?
  16. PeterJ, I am honestly trying to understand your point of view on this but you keep making assertions that do not make sense, I think you should show why these assertions are any different than the god of the gaps religion uses. These are assertions that simply do not make sense in the light of scientific progress. At one time much of the world was unknown and thought by "meta-physicists" to be unknowable, the source of lighting was thought to be god, the source of a rainbow was god, the god of the gaps has grown increasingly smaller and smaller and your take on this sounds suspiciously like the god of the gaps argument..
  17. I saw that a couple days ago, it's wild for sure. It would be nice to have some corroborating evidence and the fact he is writing a book about it kind of kills it for me.
  18. This would only be relevant if the 3d space was being curled or folded, it would not apply to objects with in 3d space if you are using your 2d analogy correctly...
  19. I suggest you use a spell check Greylorn, it looks like you are having a little spelling trouble as well... Writing a book doesn't make you knowledgeable or correct as you found out on another forum. But I am sure it will be pointed out to you here as well... Thank you Greylorn for the correction...
  20. Overton? I posted that video and you my friend are only making the hole deeper... I think you have bought into society's biblical thoughts on homosexuality not to mention the cultural homophobic take on these scriptures. I have always wondered about the "disgust" people feel at the sight of, for some people, a great many things. To me very little is disgusting, in fact that is an emotion i rarely feel, maybe never. Bizarre is the closest I can get to things i dislike greatly but I would like to know how this idea of Male homosexuals being effeminate and female homosexuals being masculine got started. These labels simply do not apply on most cases. I have seen homosexuals kiss many times, it's odd, makes me wonder why, but disgust just isn't there. I question the idea that disgust is somehow genetic, I think it's cultural to label certain things as disgusting, in some cultures cheese is considered extremely disgusting but those same people or children of those people raised in another culture eat cheese with gusto.... I doubt that disgust is genetic, so far i have seen zero evidence to suggest it is anything at best but a learned behavior... and at worst a misapplied label... Oh btw, I caught what it was about the first time I heard macho man, I thought it was hilarious...
  21. A prism? Photons do change direction and they slow down, light passing through a diamond slows down to less than half speed...
  22. For me it's mostly because bullshitologist describes most of them better... http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Bullshitology
