It works out really well when you are defining sentience, I wonder what the elephants think of us... dangerous and cruel, stupid little creatures... cows on the other hand are just tasty.... I think it's interesting to try and conceive of what other animals think of us. Elephants are highly intelligent if somewhat different that us, they have social structure, pass down knowledge in a way that is similar to the idea of human culture.
