I live in a hurricane prone area as well, we plan ahead, trees are trimmed away from power lines, houses are built to hurricane codes, basements are rare, only along the actual coast, houses in the surf type deals do you see much damage from all but the most powerful storms. I've been through a cat 3 storm, two hurricanes with in six weeks of each other, they do great damage but here it's rare to get a death, evacuation centers are all over the place, escape routs plainly marked on all highways... The eye of a hurricane is an awesome sight to behold from ground level, it looks like you are inside some Brobdingnagian barrel made of black clouds... I've seen several from that perspective... Tornadoes spawned by the hurricane do most of the damage to structures here or storm surge along the water.

That might be an answer to the problem, I am a bit picky when it comes to sound quality, why have the source material if you can't reproduce it accurately, is my take on it, my speakers to have a great high end, something like flat wave response to 36 k hertz, they do highlight bad input signals. I could just leave the two systems separate, but sadly my CD player also plays my DVDs and VHS, quite possibly the easiest thing to do will be just buy a new DVD player but that would leave out my VHS and I do like listening to my TV over my stereo system. No examples as always? Moi? That was a rather unfair exaggeration don't you think? Locally one example that stands out was the push to built a baseball stadium in our little county, both sides supported it, both sides lied to everyone and said the studies said it was great idea... yes the studies done by the people who would be making millions of dollars off it. After the election it turned out that neutral party studies had shown that baseball stadiums rarely made money in such a small market. $300,000 of the cities money was spent in an abortive attempt by both sides to build something we needed like a second ass. By and large on any level above local politics the Republicans can't tell the truth because their entire platform rests on issues that cannot be supported. In local elections the Dems reacted to the Reps in a very bad way, the Dems couldn't support issues like abortion or gay marriage in fear of pissing off their base and the Reps just blasted away with claims the Dems supported Obama in his drive to destroy the american family and tried to make it look like the Dems were evil incarnate while the Dems tried to say they didn't support Obama it was an insane election. The real joke was that these local people have no real influence either way in national politics...

Understanding the power of a hurricane is difficult if you've never been through one, something like the power of a megaton class bomb going off very nearly continuously if my memory serves me, in fact introducing the extra heat energy would almost certainly only make it worse, we might be influencing the weather but it has taken centuries to do so and it was by mistake, intentionally doing it might take centuries as well, removing the extra CO2 we've already added almost certainly will...

Again, innuendo, if you have a specific source of specific information please tell us... People all over the world have that capability, people down the street from me have that capability, hell I do given a few basic ingredients I can get from my local hardware store, I just lack motivation and like minded friends. If they had specific information about an immanent attack how about showing us they did or at least who is making the claim they did. And yes, Fox News has shown it's self to be suspect in nearly everything they say, even truth is spun so far out of reality is is difficult to recognize... especially telling in the self touted so called No Spin Zone...

In the past, daughters were often "married" at a very young age and their virginity or lack there of greatly influenced the price dowry involved. How ever in other, less male dominated societies, a young girl was expected to produce a child before she was considered a valuable asset to any future husbands. It seems to me that the idea of virginity or innocence having a potential value in the sale of a woman drives this not some question of cuckold, more like owning the woman as property and used property is less valuable than new property...

I'm calling bullshit on this one, this sounds too much like a the plot to a porno flick or some twisted mid life crisis fantasy. No way no how is this a factual event, no significant numbers of 16 yo girls are having sex with middle aged men in any of our western societies... then to say it's some sort of organized group engaging in this behavior, bullshit on a shingle guys...

We seem to get lots of threads about abortion, sex education, birth control and other ways women seem to be "special" in our society. I ask is our obsession with and or the high value we place on female virginity and sexual innocence at the heart of our apparent need to if not subjugate at least infantilize women at the root of our male dominated society and it's approach to women. We praise the virgin, demonize the slut when it come to women but men are ridiculed as immature or praised as studs... I think it says a lot about our culture...
