  1. Are you saying that you have to have religion to have moral values?
  2. So you are sarcasm impaired? It is a parody...
  3. 50 ways to hate Obama....
  4. I see, no one but you brought the rotational speed into this.... but you do have a point. I'm not willing to say that a slow rotating planet would by necessity be non conductive to life but it would present some unique challenges for life.
  5. Can anyone point to a specific disease that Marijuana cures? It does alleviate certain types of chronic pain and bring back people who are chemo's appetite but cure is pushing it pretty hard... If it was legal you could ingest it orally and bypass the smoking of it. but as long as it is illegal it is too expensive to use like that.
  6. Not a biggie, tropical storms are what we rely on for our water table. We need two or three more this year.... maybe a good northeaster will come later in the fall. I've surf fished in worse weather than this...
  7. its the physics behind it, a similar volume of material ejected from two volcanoes during a single eruption suggests that the violence of the eruption would be similar, which implies that the mark they eave would also be similar, im just trying to work out why they are not No, the initial conditions are different for each and every volcano, from the makeup of the lava to the conditions of the earth's crust in that location. I would be highly surprised if any crater was the same as any other crater, volcanic or otherwise...
  8. What does rotational speed have to do with it? The planet is too close to it's star to support life as we know it...
  9. I'm gonna have to ask why would you expect craters to be the same?
  10. I think that's called sarcasm... Another take on this has to do with the nearest star having an earth sized planet. Until recently it was assumed that double stars like the Alpha Centauri system do not have planets but now we know that not only do multiple star systems have planets there is an Earth sized one just 4.5 light years away. Is this statistically significant?
  11. Belief does not equal knowledge rigney... you know that...
  12. Thanks, i had to look that one up...
  13. I almost wish the republicans would win this thing, a continuation of republican policies would result in the total destruction any credibility the republicans have, sadly it would also hurt our country in the extreme as well...
  14. I suggest you watch this video the relevant part to your assertion is at 15:50 to around 17:00 but to really understand how badly the Bible got this stuff wrong I suggest you watch the 4 part series, a half an hour of your life listening to reality, are you brave enough to do it or is your ignorance more comforting than reality? For what ever it is worth the bible clearly states the Earth is a flat disc covered by a crystal dome on which the moon and the sun travel across every day, this dome is covered by the waters above and below.
  15. Your insinuation that this Dawkins forum has been shut down due to lack of interest is a violation of the 9th commandment, liar liar pants on fire.... This is true (pop culture really) but you did not explain why you thought something bad would happen due to his influence.
  16. They have confirmed it s far to hot for life as we know it...
  17. Please quote the parts of your links that are relevant to this discussion, I can't find anything there that supports your assertions....
  18. mississippichem, do you know of anyone working with Boron bucky balls?
  19. Actually sunset is not what I was thinking of, The sun at noon is the question, I know that sunset would be redder, that would be true with any air pressure. It's interesting that you could see the back of your head. i know that on venus you would see your self at the bottom of a bowl due to refraction but venus has 90 bar atmosphere, i wasn't aware that 10 bar would do the same thing. I want to get the apparent conditions correct from the point of view of some one on the surface of this hypothetical planet. Originally i was thinking of a large moon around a massive gas giant. Avatar screwed the pooch on that idea but i am starting over with new parameters. My idea was a moon in the same situation as Jupiter's Io with a huge energy input from interactions with the gas giants immense magnetic fields and radiation belts. The Moon is 25,000 kilometers in diameter 4 earth masses and density of 2924 kg squared surface gravity of 10.21 ms This should result in an extensive atmosphere in the way Titan has an extensive atmosphere. I am stymied by the heat retention of that atmosphere I see no way to calculate what the greenhouse effect would be. Here are some of the parameters. 20. Newspapers are dying, the internet is the most used and up to date source of News both science and otherwise. The internet has advantages and disadvantages. While the information is easily accessible it is also subject to spin or to be more precise outright lies. Any information you seek should be looked at from several sources and the agenda of those sources has to be taken into account. My rule of thumb is that religious sources have to be cross checked with secular sources and when the source agrees with my own predilections it has to be checked again to make sure I am not being told what i want to believe.
  21. witty username dude...

  22. Of course it will but non the less it would be fun to listen to...
  23. Thanks swansonT, I looks like my hypothetical atmosphere would cause the sun, even at it's zenith to be redder or orangish but the sky would still be blue.
  24. I would like some clarification on this... Can you give us a link to those defunct forums?
  25. I heard his spin rate was recently estimated at 25,000 rpm's
