  1. If we are living a dream then i want to wake up...
  2. Sadly sammy7 is no longer with us, he has been retired with extreme prejudice to that great YEC forum in the sky forever to debate the number of angels that can dance on the head of a pin.... Alas poor sammy I knew him well... good arguments though...
  3. Well everyone has to believe something, I believe I'll have another beer... Seriously sammy7 how does your belief translate into reality? I've read many explanations of the passages you site and most if not all indicate that the whore of babylon to be the catholic church, of course if you are not a fundy protestant your mileage on that may vary... Oops, it would seem sammy7 is no longer among us...
  4. That is a wild looking car for sure....
  5. The bible is held as the inerrant word of god, any changes are sacrilege, but when some new reform comes along it is usually to go back to more fundamentalist views not to change the bible to fit modern society.
  6. I've read it, in fact reading the bible is convinced me once and for that there is no evidence for any god or gods. So if you think you have some evidence that you have uncovered I would love to read it. Seriously I am very interested in your evidence...
  7. DNA is not information, it is biochemical potential, we label it information to allow us to make sense of it. But the idea of DNA being information is human..
  8. Actually I think there is a third option that no one seems to ever hit on and that is that god, or religion at least, is completely man made and the bible reflects the morals of the time it was written. I think the real disconnect occurred when religion was first written down. Before it was written down the stories about god changed as the morals and needs of the times changed, story tellers could change the story to please the locals and to reflect changes that were occurring, but once it became "carved in stone" there was no wiggle room the stories were the same everytime and if you tried to tell a story different it could easily be shown to be different than last time. Myths told about god and what he wanted reflected the wants and needs of the people until this disconnect happened. After that religion became more of a grindstone around the necks of the people, locking them into behaviors that may or may not have net the needs of the people. i think this video displays this quite well, things that we immediately see as immoral in our modern society are obviously written down in the bible as being the law of god. People who are religious either ignore the things they don't want to believe or they do their best to make non believers turn more toward the fundamentalist view. I think it's important to point out the logical moral disconnect between what the bible says and what people think it says or want to believe it says...
  9. Looks more like "What? Me worry?"
  10. What would a Christian do? In this video three scenarios are presented and the reaction to these situations by Christians is solicited, kind of a biblical version of "What would you do?
  11. It's time to vote for your favorite liar! Yes the voting has begun on the 2012 golden crocoduck awards!
  12. "I heard that" "You got that right" "damn straight" In the south you can carry on an extended conversation with someone using not much more than those phrases... http://www.raesmith.com/southern_talk_dictionary.htm http://grammar.yourdictionary.com/slang/redneck-slang-words.html

  14. Or trying to keep from busting out in laughter from trying to assert a 30 year old fairy tale concerning pissing on people and calling it rain... Trickle down economics my ass...
  15. Wait! We have to wait a year to even know if he proved it to you? I hate cliff hangers...
  16. Nice slippery slope, I'll give you another one. I see the idea that life begins at conception being used to stop some methods of birth control. The same people who bring you anti choice propaganda were at the forefront of... you guessed it anti birth control in the last century. At one time it was illegal to sell condoms... Yes i am progressive but life begins at conception means a great many children never make it. Do we do our best to prevent sex altogether because it might end up in miscarriage? Do you restrict sexually active women from drinking because they might become pregnant if their birth control method fails? Would you charge them with child abuse if they smoked and took the risk of sex and the baby is exposed to nicotine as a fetus? Once the idea that sperm cells are living as well crystallizes in the minds of all those people who lay awake at night worrying that some how some place someone is having a good time.... then the slope becomes the lip of an event horizon... A medieval level of morals enforced by 21st century technology, we would never be able to climb out of that cultural black hole... And what is this life begins at conception idea, at what point does an egg and sperm cease to be alive? When did they begin to be alive? The word life lends an air of some sort of supernatural aspect to this, in religious circles life is used as a supernatural invocation, in science somewhat less so... I know there are probably many anti abortion people who are not theists (I wrestle with the concept myself) but the vast majority are religious, often fringe type fundamentalists. Can we at least define it as when does the fertilized egg become a human being? The word life is used in so many different ways by everyone, it colors the water with ink only the original brain can see... short words are often have slippery meanings...
  17. Then why do they do it so much? So Mitt's lie about his health care plan didn't bother you? He had the chance to tell the truth on national television and he lied... And you count Obama not being able to undo the mess he inherited as fast as he wanted to is a lie? epic fail dude... you are indeed a staunch Republican...
  18. To be honest rigney i think it does matter, i think it matters that anyone, left or right or up or down or what ever would use such a... I am at a loss for words here... but what ever you call such a gambit on the part of extremists this should be condemned by all human beings. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume that Mitt had nothing to do with it and wouldn't have allowed even the thought of such a device to be used for political gain. The bigger picture is the extreme lengths the republican fringes will go to denigrate Obama, the entire nonsensical picture they have been trying to paint of the President doesn't border on the ridiculous it is ridiculous. Obama has been attacked by the fringe elements of the republican party in a particularly vicious way. Does it really matter if his Mother was a porn star, a prostitute, a quarter girl, or a Nun gone bad? Why would anyone even delve into this, the truth of the matter is immaterial, the impotent nature of the attacks was already like the high pitched death cry of a mouse grabbed by a Owl in defiance of it's inevitable death but this is just wrong, can anyone who is a normal human being not see how wrong this type of thing is? The desperation these fringe elements seem to feel is apparent in this claim, the almost constant prattle of nigger jokes from the very beginning was nothing but a friendly pat on the back compared to this. If the republican party in it's totality doesn't reject this completely with no reservations and seek out the elements in the party responsible for it and... to be honest I don't know what comes next... but I know that at least one high ranking republican has actually embraced it publicly... and not just the fringe idiot who made it but the people who financed and anyone who is associated with it should be dragged out in the open light of court and charged with anything and everything possible for the release of this... again proper words escape me... but the republican party should not just distance it's self from this film but they should reject the fringe elements who are creating this stuff once and for all, in fact I hope it might just be bad enough for the people of our country to see just how far politics has sunk into the pit. http://digitaljournal.com/article/333796#ixzz28Df7iMma In some ways i think both sides are responsible for this, the very essence of politics in what I've seen in most of my politically aware life has been the lie, told as though it was a newly released secrete but from anonymous sources, this idea of helping out your guy by spreading lies and slander about their guy that cannot be traced back to your guy is so wrong so unAmerican so anti human it sickens me to think such a thing could not just happen but be politics as usual, both sides should see this as awake up call to purge their organizations of such fringe elements... I know, I'm naive, i still think there are good and bad guys... not just small vicious power hungry people who will do anything to win... the soul of the country be damned...
  19. Instead of starting a new insane political thread I'm going to post this here, I genuinely hope it is bullshit but if true the campaign has hit new low this election cycle... DVD Claims Obama's Mom Was Porn Star http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXcDj5J39kM

  21. Current fusion methods use radioactive elements, tritium is not stable, and fusion does indeed result in radioactive waste... Hydrogen fusion gives off neutrons which, if nothing else, make the stuff the reactor is made of radioactive. If we ever manage to make helium three fusion you might have a point but at this point all current fusion methods do involve unstable elements and leave behind radioactive waste of some sort.
  22. If some one's gonna whip it out then "I say whip it... whip it good" I've seen a lot of threatening to whip out "it" but no "it"... lots of threats of "it" and threats supposedly from "it" but so far no "it"... Oops should have been in reply to this one too...
  23. I can see how it could be asserted that time in the observable universe began with the observable universe but other possiblites are being considerd, one of these called the ekpyrotic universe model that considers that time may pass in a greater bulk space that our universal membrane exists within along with other membranes.
  24. I wasn't sure how far into "color/colour" we needed to go when the effect in question is an optical illusion of sorts to start with. My experience with light sources for marine reefs is sobering, humans are simply not good judges of light and what we are looking at has significant influence on what we see as far as colors are concerned... a great many optical illusion type puzzles are based on our biased perception of light... If you ever get the chance give your self a little cut when you are at least 35 feet under water and see what color your blood is... Vulcan...
