Not only do i disagree with you on times existence I'll go one step farther and say time is so basic that nothing else can exist with out time. Most people, when they think of dimensions, start out with one, then two, and then three, and only then do they consider time. I think time is the "first" dimension and without it no other dimensions could exist...

I am a rationalist... what is a "plasma" cosmologist? The bible does indeed predict a great fire or fires when the lord comes back, but I have to point out how the bible says lots of other stuff that is simply not true or could not have happened the way the bible says, I see no reason to assign some sort of veracity to this one and ignore the others but I can say that science in no way predicts this will happen. Again please provide some evidence of this statement, i have never heard if anything even close to this idea. About three years ago i was looking for meteors during a shower, I had gone outside and sat for almost an hour and I had seen no shooting stars at all, i went inside for several minutes and i decided to go back outside, just as I looked up a really bright meteor went over head, almost lit up the sky, it was impressive, but I stood outside for 30 minutes or so and saw no more. i went inside and waited for about an hour and just before i was going to bed I stepped back outside again, i looked up and low and behold another very bright shooting star went over head just as i looked up, i thought that was a wild coincident, i wonder what the odds of that were! I did not think it was a sign from god, such a coincidence is not uncommon, and requires no act of god to happen, in fact there is no way to say it was anything but coincident, show me a real miracle, not some obvious coincidence dressed up as an act of god....

No science pursues knowledge, truth a slippery thing and often contains more of what the person thinks should be true rather than what is true and absolute truth is unlikely to even be possible but religious charlatans have no problem claiming absolute truth, usually just after telling an absolute lie as revealed truth, you are so condescending, you assume that anyone who does not agree with you has just not searched hard enough or doesn't believe hard enough, horse feathers, I was raised as a fundamentalist christian, i started asking questions when i was 8 years old, the answers were often obviously wrong even to an 8 yo and the answer I most often got was it's a sin to question god... how lame is that? I've seen hundreds in a night, I've seen huge glowing balls traveling in pairs, that is as silly as seeing a picture of jesus on a grilled cheese sandwich. Please explain what the one day equals a thousand years means in relation to the veracity of the bible.... We need to see some evidence of this, who said it, when ? a link to that info would be nice. Not only is that not a fossil it has nothing to do with fossilization... No they are not, please provide some evidence for this outrageous claim.... Most do but not your narrow world view of fundamentalism Yes this is also true No there is not, please provide instances in the bible to back up these claims... Again please give some evidence of this idea in main stream science.... None of this makes any sense in the light of mainstream science and sounds like some sort of wild speculation by people who have no clue what they are talking about. Indeed, i also feel silly for getting into these conversations, they are not driven by anything other than the desire to proselytize one Religious persons concepts by creating so many straw man arguments and the obfuscation of what everyone else says. Aristarchus in Exile does not represent main stream religion, not protestants, catholics, or most of the denominations currently recognized. But he does have brothers in Islam, Hinduism, Seiks, Zoeastrism, and several others I can't spell off the top of my head and I don't feel like looking them up. He represents a group who worship the actual bible as god, their narrow definition of god not only limits god but also tries to say that there are only two possibilities, their idea of god or atheism, this is extremely disingenuous, most scientists are Christian, more than 90% and they either have no problem with a natural explanation of the world and are able to connect their world view with the idea of god. the other percentage of scientists adhere to other religious beliefs Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, or one of the many other religious belief systems. Most of these people have no problem with GOD acting through naturalistic means, only Creationists have that narrow view of God they seem to need to limit him to. I have no problem with faith, even unfounded faith, if it takes faith to float your boat then good for you, row away happy as you can allow your self to be. My only problem with Fundamentalism or creationism is when they try to teach these things as facts. They ignore all the events described in the bible that would be morally reprehensible today, twist the words of the bible until they are torqued out of any possible resemblance to what was actually said and cling to quite recent translations of the Bible that have demonstrably lost both meaning and actual passages in translation. The actual New Testament was "voted on" to decide how many books would be included or left out and we got four gospels out of more than 20, some say as high as 100 but only 20 or so can be verified. But it is silly to try and confirm the bible via science, in fact at first the bible was considered a science book and the church spent a great deal of time enforcing what it thought was science far past the point of forbidding anyone to check and actually punishing anyone who tried to verify reality. One of the first ideas the bible and the idea of god might not be quite as straight forward as everyone thought was Lightning. i know everyone thinks of Galileo and the idea of a Helio-centric solar system as being the first big disconnect but I think it was lightning. The idea of the sun or the earth being the center of the solar system did indeed upset the apple carts of the educated but the common man was worried about more direct effects and the idea that a man made device could prevent the wrath of god.. lightning... is I think one of the first disconnects for the common man. The idea that gods will could be thwarted is a powerful idea.

While i am sure I am wrong, your answer ignores my point, if we discover a method of communicating faster than light then light is no longer the limit to communication, wouldn't that negate the idea that you would get the response before you sent the message?

Isn't that only true if you are only able to communicate at light speed? If a faster than light signal is possible wouldn't that fact change the whole "get the response before you send it" thing?

Ancient Astronauts, if they exist, must be (or were) interacting with us on a much more subtle level than coming down and building huge megalithic buildings and religious sites around the world. Since it has been shown many times that making such large rock buildings and other sites, many of them religious, can be done over many years using thousands of, if not slaves then volunteers, even in modern times religious people do some amazing things dedicating their lives to things that seem to reinforce their belief in god or gods. I would be surprised to learn our ancestors didn't do this sort of thing. If there is any truth to ancient astronauts it's more likely they inspired the religions that inspired humans to do some of the amazing things they did. I am surprised you didn't mention the ancient astronauts selectively breeding apes for intelligence so they could use us as slaves to mine minerals they needed from the earth, the result of this genetic manipulation was us, seems just as plausible...

This is a very interesting experiment, I hope to see more information in the future. A great many hunting dogs are still used for their original purpose, I keep Basset hounds and they are used for hunting by many people. Not me by the way, i just like having the big clowns around the house. Most reputable dog breeders do indeed breed for personality traits that tend toward dogs that are easily socialized with humans, some dog breeds are better at this than others but the problem IMHO is that some dog breeders who are just breeding dogs for money tend to not only forget the personality part of the equation, they really don't care and dogs with bad attitudes are bred just as any other dog. Personality in a puppy mill has little meaning and if the Bitch or Dam has lots of puppies her mean and surly attitude is not part of the equation since the dog is not a pet but merely a source of puppies lacked away in her cage forever. The personality of the Dog or Sire means very little in puppy mills as well, personality of the parents is not considered resulting in a progressive lack of over seeing the traits of the dogs other than visual and often they do not even care much about that either. Any dog is capable of biting, especially in defense of it's master or it's masters children or property... I think Arete answered this part quite well....

I don't see anyway you could get more energy out of a black hole than you had to put into it to create it, if you had to feed it matter to keep it from evaporating wouldn't you be better off to use that matter for energy directly rather than feeding it to a black hole first? BTW a black hole with the mass of a mountain (more or less, if my memory serves me) would "evaporate" so much energy it would very nearly appear to be a continuous atomic explosion, a very unhealthy thing to be close to.... but I would have to think that with appropriate technology the energy could be harvested but think of the energy it would take to create such a object, almost certainly more than it would produce....

This is like shooting fish in a barrel, the very passages from the bible you quote back me up and show you to be in error. The bible quite clearly states the earth is a flat disc covered by a dome covered by water, the passages in Job is not god telling Job anything about the shape of the earth it is Job talking about his own feelings about the earth, anyone who is in the open at night over the course of a few days can see the earth appears to turn about a point in space, namely the pole star. Circle in the context of the passages clearly means a flat disc not a sphere, yes the ancient Hebrews did indeed have a name for sphere, if they meant sphere why didn't they use it? I do not speak or write ancient Hebrew, nor do i know how to translate it into English, if you do quite possibly you could show where brettpalmer is wrong, but if you truly care about truth and not just satisfying your own version of religious apologetics I did find a short series of videos about this very subject from a man who does indeed know how to speak and write not to mention translate the original Hebrew, I will post this series for you to see (I assume you are just repeating what you have been told and are willing to learn) because what you are trying to put over on us is a well known religious apologetic. 50 minutes of your life to gain real knowledge seems a small price to pay, to me anyway but I value the truth over belief. I call you on this, no where in the bible does it state the earth is a sphere, show us where the bible says the earth is a sphere. You made the claim now show us the proof. Science did not hold back knowledge of the earth orbiting the sun, it was religion that did this mainly because religion backed up a false idea because it supported what the bible claims about the earth. The bible says the earth is a flat disc covered by a crystal dome and the flat disc of the earth was supported by pillars in the deep. You can believe anything you want but if you are going to make claims, even in the religion forum, you have to back them up....

And who created the being that created god and so on.... Saying god did it just stops all further inquiry, it stops knowledge, at one time the answer to the question of what causes lightning was god and it was a serious answer too, not to mention the only answer unless of course you ask which god...
