Isn't it probable that to time travel you could only travel during the time the time machine exists? In other words if I made a time machine I could not visit my mom or dinosaurs because the time machine wasn't built yet...

Who created science? The Church or the State?
Moontanman replied to Greatest I am's topic in Science Education
I think the supernatural was mans first attempt to explain the natural world, it was totally unsuccessful, but it took a long time for humans to realize that there was no supernatural and actual observation and tests were the only way to know the natural world. -
Why does me having a gun bother you so much? Why would you think owning a gun means going out to look for reasons to use it? Strawman it should be hard to obtain a gun, i won't deny that I know a lot of people who have grenades.

I have to apologize to D.H., I have researched Anthony Tate as throughly as I can and I cannot find any trace of him or any reason to believe he has anything to do with gaseous core reactors. Evidently I was taken to the cleaners on that one...

Cause of the magnetic fields of the Earth?

Georeactor... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georeactor -
The Cherokee Nation had a very carefully worded treaty of non aggression with the USA, they had agreed to be allies with the USA. The treaties were ignored, my people were marched, men women and children, on foot halfway across the continental USA, in cold weather, to an area totally unfamiliar to the Cherokee, the few that made it then died due to not being able to feed themselves in a strange area they were not used to farming or hunting in. Your point is meaningless lemur, to have defied the orders of the government would have meant being shot on the spot by the commanders in charge. Your option was not a reasonable idea, besides the fact that most whites were too stupid to understand the Cherokee were not nomads like the Plains Indians, they hated the Cherokee because they were different, because the Cherokee lived on desirable land, not cotton land by the way, the Cherokee mostly lived in the mountainous areas.

I know the paint they use now is very slippery when it wet, that makes it very dangerous to motorcycles that attempt to stop at cross walks. In wet weather the combination of oil sheen on the road and the paint is like ice, it's not too bad for cars but it can cause a motorcycle to slide down even if you are sitting still... maybe the more reflective the paint is the more slippery it becomes?

Yeah, because of that my people were able to record their experiences on the trail of tears, most of the people died in that forced march, when our nation was taken from us by Andrew Jackson. Yeah, it was a fair trade i am sure... The native Americans were exterminated like animals, biological weapons were used, the native Americans who were left had their children taken from them so they could be forced to speak English, they cut their hair, made them dress as whites, took away their culture, destroyed the entire Cherokee Nation, not to mention the nomadic Native Americans cultures and tribes. The Native Americans were systematically denied their very lives because they were Native Americans, some because they weren't civilized enough, some because they were too civilized and occupied lands white people wanted but mostly just because they were not white. No lemur, it's not just a matter of perspective, it was quite real, quite horrible, and most of my people didn't survive the "Indian Wars" it was a war of extermination, of people, of cultures and a way of life.

thinking about 'spontaneous human combustion'
Moontanman replied to the guy's topic in Other Sciences
You make a good point about the fire retardant materials but bodies do indeed burn completely if burned slowly. Experiments have been done by wrapping pig carcases in cheese cloth and dousing it with just a small amount of alcohol. This results in a wicking action and the fats of the body are burnt slowly by being wicked into the fabric as it burns, this results in a small flame less than 18" tall that burns for hours as the body, including bones, is slowly consumed. Appendages like feet, lowers legs and arms and hands are often left behind, the burning is so slow it is often missed until it is over with. thick greasy smoke deposits much like the SHC victims was given off by the pig carcases leaving a very similar if not identical burn pattern. once the main part of the body is consumed the flame goes out. This slow, low, flame has actually been seen a few times in bodies that are intentionally burned as well and the act of trying to slow burn a body is what most cases of SHC are thought to be. It is possible that some bodies are burnt accidentally by this method as well. I think most of the mystery is people trying to hide a homicide but it is possible for someone to stroke out while burning a cigarette and be burnt up but this would have to rare, of course cases of SHC are also rather rare as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spontaneous_human_combustion http://www.skepdic.com/shc.html -
Actually the people who faked that little bit of video came forward quite soon and admitted to faking it, the true believers never seemed to notice even though the people who faked it stepped forward and demonstrated how they did the video trickery...

Pretty obviously they did not... I'm sorry on what planet did I suggest crazy people should be allowed to own guns or that there should not be any gun laws? Restrictions on flying aircraft didn't seem to be effective at all did they?
-
Yes, they had no desire to explain anything, only to ridicule and debunk the sightings, science was just a prop to add credibility to their explanations.

Where do you think baby oil comes from?

So you deny that 150 years ago having skin that was darker than the average European meant you were property in the good old USA. Your owner could do pretty much anything he wanted from rape to murder with your person and you had no recourse. In more ancient history it was ok to own humans, and do anything you wanted with them. I think there is ample evidence you are incorrect...

I'm not sure i understand why anyone would think the lone crazy could be stopped because he thinks someone else has a gun, He doesn't care, he is willing to die to get his target, the only way to prevent that is make sure no one has a weapon of any kind. If he wanted to take out the person and all he had was a pocket knife the job could still be done. In the USA and I suspect anywhere else in the world, if you want a gun bad enough someone will sell you one. I would be willing to bet in the UK if you really want a gun there are enough people who will sell you a gun. No way no how has every gun been taken from civilians, if the USA were to try and confiscate all guns the only guns they would likely get are the legal ones. A great many people have unregistered guns, guns handed down from grandpa, guns bought in gun shows, guns currently being held by criminals. Gun laws, lax or strong, have nothing to do with this man killing anyone...

Recently the government of Tunisia was brought down by the people refusing to allow their government to continue on it's course, tweets, of all things, contributed greatly to this over throw. it seems to me that technology might be a greater force for human freedom than all the militaries in the world. They used tweets to both counter and to inform others of what the government forces were doing. Tweets! TWEETS! I mean really, as fast as the technology of personal communication is advancing it would surprise me if in 50 years governments cease to exist in the way we understand them...

Can you give some evidence of any crop circles that could not have been done by humans? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crop_circle

Well then ParanoiA, you and I can at least talk, I am the type of person who becomes suspicious if the people around me agree too much. My own thoughts about life are quite different than most so anyone who really agrees is either as odd as me or wanting something. I think that ignorance is far more dangerous than the most powerful weapon....

Needimprovement, do you understand that although we both agree that killing babies is immoral, morality is not a natural law, morality is a constantly changing idea. There have been many societies that have moralized things we cannot conceive of tolerating. Quite recently in our own society it was ok for barely pubescent girls to be married to old men, can you imagine that being allowed now? Well it is in some polygamy cults here in the US and in some cultures babies were regularly sacrificed to their God or Gods. Our current ideas of morality are not only arbitrary they are also quite new and can and probably will change in the future.

So I guess we can assume that anyone who is intelligent and well informed who disagrees with you is not part of the people who are your enemy? Or is everyone who disagrees with you automatically unintelligent and misinformed?

How come herbivores are muscular?
Moontanman replied to dirt's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
It's not all fat it's mostly muscle, they get their muscles from their life styles, traveling large distances, infighting, competition for food and resisting predators. I'm not completely sure why you think herbivores are somehow more muscled than they should be, they are as muscular as they need to be.... -
Doc. Josh, are seriously suggesting that crop circles are made by aliens or some agency other than humans? All crops circles are an indication of intelligence, human intelligence, it has been clearly demonstrated that even the most complex crop circles are easily made in one night by several people using simple tools. No super natural agency is needed...

Where did you get this stuff? Be careful you don't approach too close, conspiracies are like black holes, get too close and they suck you in I have to agree with you, while I am pro gun, the idea that citizens carrying guns will prevent crime is based on the idea of a "reasonable criminal" not a gun carrying crazy. A reasonable criminal takes the idea that his victim might be armed seriously. No criminal worth his salt would knowingly take on an armed citizen. A criminal wants a sheep, not a wolf as his prey. A crazy just wants to kill as many people as possible before he is killed, I'm not sure anyone can plan for or even hope to stop such a crime. I know I am pretty good with a S&W 9mm, my wife is much better, but preventing such a crime as this shooting from happening would be difficult for an armed professional much less a citizen not used to shooting anything but targets at a range.
