  1. To be honest it just tasted like flat Coke, it was warm and sweet but no carbonation other than that is tasted like Coke. It's quite possible that coke in a bottle would survive a lot longer as a carbonated drink, glass would prevent the escape of carbonation better than thin aluminum i would think. I know that food canned in glass will last many years and at least still appear to be good, i have a jar of jam my grandmother canned at least 45 years ago and it still appears the same as it did all those years ago. I have seen jelly turn to sugar crystals but as long as it's sealed it seems to be ok. I've seen tomatoes that had been canned many years ago opened and used as food
  2. Originally the idea was that doing drugs, even if you didn't do them at work or come to work under the influence they still affected your body is such a way that made you less able to do your job. The idea that drug users were somehow high all the time was the incentive to drug test the work place not the illegality of them. I worked for Dupont for 25 years and they never drug tested me, their take was that unless what you do off site affected your job it was none of their business, just don't bring it to work. Sadly the idea that drug use was somehow harmful in some unique way that alcohol and tobacco were not is just government propaganda and this propaganda was used to convince employers, as part of the war on drugs, to test their employees, if I had a quarter for everyone I've seen come to work hung over and unable to do their job i would be rich but pot at least doesn't leave you with a hang over the next day and tobacco is not only used at work but special privileges were given to those who smoked to the point that many people actually started smoking so they could take smoke breaks like the smokers got. Now days smokers are feeling the squeeze as well as every one else but alcohol is still tolerated and often used on the job. I think it's interesting that some animals actually use drugs in a manner we would call recreational, elephants are famous as drunks, squirrels eat psychedelic mushrooms and retire to their hollow tree dens to sleep it off. There are lots of examples of at least self medication by animals if not actual recreational use of various materials we would call drugs, why do they do it? Could it be the same reasons we do?
  3. Cypress, my hats off to you, you have presented the best argument in defense of ID I have seen. While I have little formal education I totally grasp the idea of natural processes creating information, I've experienced it in the way the ocean can sort materials. Simple random wave motions can produce some astounding examples of design, about 30 years ago i was beach combing, something I did almost every day then by walking miles of beach, one nice winter day i found a piece of brick vaguely shaped like a Valentines Day Heart. Bricks had been dumped to make a sea wall about 50 years before and the ocean in this area had been breaking down and smoothing these fist sized pieces of bricks for decades. As I walked along i found several more pieces of brick shaped like hearts but they were beginning to be closer and closer to being perfectly heart shaped. In a stretch of beach maybe 10 meters long there were many of these heart shaped pieces of brick and in the center of the stretch of beach i found several pieces of brick that were perfectly heart shaped. As I moved away from this area heart shaped pieces of brick became more rare until they disappeared completely and in a few more meters the pieces of brick disappeared completely. In that small stretch of beach not only did the ocean sort out all the bricks into a 100 meter stretch of beach the ocean sorted them by shape, one of those shapes looked like something I was familiar with. An interesting side note, an older woman who was walking near by came over to see what I was looking at and she saw the heart shaped bricks and commented "Isn't wonderful how God shaped those pieces of brick into hearts? It just shows how much he loves us" She obviously saw gods hand in the heart shaped brick pieces but does god really have to be invoked to explain information? If what i saw as information was randomly created and sorted out by the ocean in a few decades i can see natural processes creating any amount of order (which is really what should be said here instead of information) Now while this story is interesting it should also be said the ocean had sorted nearly all the brick pieces by shape as well, there were small cylinders, ovals, small spheres all sorts of regular shapes among all the irregular shapes and all of them were sorted to shape and size, even the irregular pieces were sorted as to similar shapes and sizes. Now unless god had sorted them out or aliens had sorted them out natural processes had to the the method of such order. While i commend you for your debate abilities so far you have given nothing new to the ID idea, it still totally fails and just because we can use our intelligence to design a heart and carve that heart out of stone so can the ocean with random movements and lots of time and no intelligence what so ever...
  4. I had been wondering if that vapor contained any nicotine, makes sense that it would. When I think of nicotine delivery systems that have been used I always think of the Simsons episode where Crusty the Clown is standing in front of a mirror naked trying to find a spot on his body not already covered by a nicotine patch....
  5. Skyhook, are you trolling or do you really not see the differences between differences recreational drugs? Alcohol is probably the worst of all recreational drugs and i can buy it at the corner zip-mart! Alcohol and Tobacco kill far more people than all other recreational drugs put together many times over. Drew Barrymores problem was alcohol, she is an alcoholic, Cannabis was not the reason she went to rehab, it was alcohol. Marijuana is not completely benign but it is far less dangerous than alcohol or tobacco, some studies actually show pot suppresses cancer. I wouldn't bet the farm on it but they have to dig pretty hard to show pot is harmful. Alcohol, tobacco, opiates, coke, meth, are extremely addictive physically. Opiate addiction is a living hell, i know because I was addicted to medically prescribed pain pills, oxycontin, it is outrageously addictive and can kill you easily. Pot on the other hand cannot kill you, you cannot over dose on Maryjane, it does not make you feel bad the next day and it is a pretty good analgesic for some types of pain, now faced with intractable pain which would you take? something that is so addictive your body craves more and more till it kills you or incapacitates you or smoke pot which isn't addictive and cannot kill you? I am not saying that marijuana is good for you or harmless but locking people up for it is just wrong, may as well lock people up for masterbation... http://www.a1b2c3.com/drugs/gen008.htm
  6. It just so happens that Cannabis can be substituted for hops in beer, the THC is soluble in alcohol and it makes some kick ass beer.... http://www.onr.com/user/liberty/Marijuana/MBeer/MBeer.html
  7. about 15 years ago i was given the task of cleaning out lockers at the Dupont site where I worked, some of them had been abandoned for more than 25 years. I found several cans of Coke and Pepsi that were more than 25 years old. They were all flat but drinkable if you were real thirsty and wanted some sugar water...
  8. I know it's not very popular with the kids but I liked the idea of school uniforms when my boys were growing up. It would have take a lot of the craziness out of school shopping and in the mornings before school. When I was in high school everyone was wearing old torn up jeans and t-shirts and sandals but I always wore dress shirts and pants and dress shoes, even a tie when I was in the mood, yes it won me a lot of friends but the derision didn't phase me, i always like to be different in some way. BTW the idea of an armed uprising over school uniforms is so lame....
  9. Intelligent design is totally misleading in both it's claims and it the very idea of it. if it was aliens or Canadians then who designed them? There is absolutely no evidence for ID or creationism, there is an enormous amount of evidence to support evolution. For ID to be true then one of two different things must also be true. Either the Earth was seeded approximately 4 billion years ago with microbes that had the genetic information for all the complex life on earth already in them or the designer has been monitoring life on earth since they seeded it and have been slowly adding 'design" to the life on the Earth. Either way if it was aliens then we are in their debt, i wonder what they will want in return? Of course then you have to ask who designed them, the idea of ID is morally bankrupt as any other lie used to confrim another lie. .
  10. Intelligent design is nothing but religion dressed up as science. It is totally disingenuous to claim that intelligent design is anything but creationism masquerading as science. Loosing your job due to your beliefs is rough but do not even think that intelligent design is anything but creationism... We haven't heard any evidence from you yet new and young, just wild claims and here-say. You are making the claims, you need to provide evidence.
  11. I've seen the movie expelled, movies do not qualify as evidence, and I guess what you haven't learned from movies you just yank out of your rectum?
  12. Cypress are you saying that the design for all modern organisms was already in the first organisms or are you saying that some design elements are added as time goes on by some outside source of design resulting in the complexity we se today and the gradual rise of that complexity over the last 3.8 billion years or so?
  13. I call BS on that, do you have anything to back up that claim?
  14. So where did the intelegent design come from or are you a one post wonder?
  15. I think this is interesting from a free speech perspective. There are many erotic literature sites, some do not stipulate that all characters must be of legal age but some do. Then there is the digital videos, digitally you can come pretty close to making what appears to be live action but no actors were used in it's making but if underage people are portrayed digitally on film in sex acts it's illegal, they might be able to slip this guy into jail based on the idea that digital Child Porn is already illegal, writing about it seems less harmful than making sexual cartoons or digital films.... I am against censorship but this is hard to defend.
  16. I am watching the movie "HEAVY METAL" gotta love real animation and metal music!

  17. Total Lunar Eclipse and Winter Solstice Coincide on Dec. 21 Path of the Moon through Earth's umbral and penumbral shadows during the Total Lunar Eclipse of Dec. 21, 2010. (Credit: Fred Espenak/NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center) ScienceDaily (Dec. 17, 2010) — With frigid temperatures already blanketing much of the United States, the arrival of the winter solstice on December 21 may not be an occasion many people feel like celebrating. But a dazzling total lunar eclipse to start the day might just raise a few chilled spirits. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/12/101217192856.htm
  18. Prions Mutate and Adapt to Host Environment This light photomicrograph of brain tissue reveals the presence of typical amyloid plaques found in a case of variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD). (Credit: Sherif Zaki; MD; PhD; Wun-Ju Shieh; MD; PhD; MPH) ScienceDaily (Dec. 18, 2010) — Scientists from the Florida campus of The Scripps Research Institute have shown that prions, bits of infectious protein that can cause fatal neurodegenerative disease such as bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) or "mad cow disease," have the ability to adapt to survive in a new host environment. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/12/101217083232.htm
  19. I like school uniforms! no wait that's another forum
  20. Lions and Tigers, donkeys and zebras, horses and zebras, Indian elephants and African elephants, a great many fish interbreed even in the wild.
  21. I tried it but I didn't inhale....
  22. Mooeypoo SPACEWOMAN! I think that is a great idea! Although there are many woman in science, from what I know about men I'll bet it's an uphill battle to gain respect as a woman. Keep at it Xittenn, don't give up! btw good to see you back mooey
  23. I agree small bang, red heads are just unusual in our society, something like less than 4% in the world, less 2% in the USA. They stand out because they are unusual and catch the eye (not the nose) and not because they are in any way less than anyone else. ( I still have a thing for red heads though, lol)
  24. It seems counter intuitive to me that acceleration cannot be distinguished from gravity, I can think of at least one case where acceleration can be differentiated from gravity with no access to the outside world.
  25. I've always had something for red heads, i was married to one for several years. She has no odor or smell that was different than any other red head or any other hair or skin color. I am very sensitive in the area of smell, I can tell when the wife was ovulating by her smell and pregnant women have a particular odor too but no odor for just red heads.
