I'm looking for a free web host that can support my PHP code. I've searched for them but I can't find any that work! Here are some of the web hosts I've tried. AwardSpace.com: This service worked great at first. Then they decided to delete my account! They didn't send me an e-mail or anything. I've tried contacting them, but they won't reply! 1FreeHost.net: This company won't even give me an account! I filled out the form, and it said to check my e-mail for my password. I never got an e-mail from them. I clicked on, "Forgotten your password?" and I entered my e-mail address. It said my password would be sent to me, but I still didn't get an e-mail. Cabspace.com: This company must not have their servers setup correctly. When I try to load my pages in my browser, it will display the actual code instead of the page. Freehostia.com: This actually looks like a good service. However, when I try to fill out the signup form, the web site will just freeze. What is the problem here? Are all free web hosts operated by a bunch of idiots, or are there some good ones out there? If anyone knows of any good free web hosts, please let me know.

I figured out how Windows recreates the files when you delete them. It copies them from C:\Windows\System32\dllcache If delete a file from both locations, you will need the setup disc to reinstall it.

If you have a web site with a long URL, you can buy a new domain and have it forwarded to the old URL. If your domain registrar provides domain masking, the visitor will not know the web site has a different URL unless he or she looks at the source code. For example, I own the domain http://www.destinypoems.com but the actual site is located at http://destinypoems.homestead.com. My domain registrar's domain masking service works using a frame. The HTML code for http://www.destinypoems.com is: Even though it has the META tags setup, could domain masking have an affect on my search engine positions?

Wait... I was wrong. Try deleting the files in the Windows Media Player folder. It will let you delete all of them, but Windows Media Player will automatically repair itself! The files you just deleted will still be in the Recycle Bin, but there will be new copies of the same files in the Windows Media Player folder. How does it do that?
-
Windows Media Player isn't wired into Windows XP. It is located at: C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player There are some shared files in the C:\Windows\System32 folder that Media Player uses. However, manually removing Windows Media Player and its shortcuts should not cause Windows XP to crash.

I just can't believe that lack of common sense that the EU has. Just read this article: http://money.cnn.com/2006/03/29/news/international/eu_microsoft.reut/index.htm They said, "We are concerned about the possibility that the next Vista operating system will include various elements which are currently available separately from Microsoft or other companies." This is absolutely the craziest thing I've ever heard. My car came with a car stereo, and those are available separately from other companies. I guess the automobile companies should be fined money too... Why can't they understand that sometimes products need to be included with other products? Imagine a computer without a processor, or a television without any speakers. In the same way, an operating system should include additional products. The whole Windows Media Player incident just showed how unintelligent the EU is. It was just an additional feature. It wasn't harming the competition. Anyone with Windows Media Player could also install iTunes, RealPlayer, or another media player without any trouble. What is the difference between Windows XP having a media player, and an automobile having a car stereo?

You can only use pop with the e-mail if you get the $29.95 a month service. Of course, everything is still free while it is still in BETA mode. The e-mail accounts are better than Hotmail, but it has the same interface. Actually, you go to hotmail.com to check your e-mail. Instead of typing youremail@hotmail.com you would type youremail@yourdomain.com.

It seems pretty good. I registered http://www.firstunlimited.com as my free domain, but I don't have it online yet. I can upload my own files, but not HTML files. I can only use Microsoft's page editor to edit my site. The page editor seems really nice for a free service, but it will take me a while to get used to it. They have a large variety of templates, and plenty of pictures to use in the templates. I can also upload my own pictures. I can also create 5 free e-mail addresses on my domain. Each e-mail address comes with 2GB of storage, an address book, and a SPAM filter. This seems like a nice service. It could never replace my Homestead service, but it is still nice to have an extra domain for free. It will also be great for any person or company who wants to setup a simple web site.

AWESOME! Microsoft sent me my key today to get my free account. I went to the web site, and I just registered my free domain! Within a few minutes, my account was setup!

I agree with you, YT. However, Srirambalu suggested that someone should have invented the atomic bomb to send it to a museum instead of ever using it for defense purposes. That made no sense to me.

War still existed during this time that you just said was "harmless". Humans have built weapons and killed each other a long time before this time. In fact, war exists in the wild. You will find competition between one-celled organisms, so it isn't because we are advancing. The only way we could possible stop war and competition is if we advance further. Ok... Why would anybody ever do that? Usually our weapons are created for defense. It is normally the terrorists in the poor countries that start the violence. You just don't understand. "Nature's selection" is not a peaceful death! It is usually starvation or disease. Right, but Srirambalu seems to think that it will help if we were all poor. If the rich became poor, that isn't going to help the people who are already poor. It's just going to make more poor people.

How could the bit of matter only be 20 pounds? I thought that matter couldn't be created or destroyed. If that is true, a sphere with all the matter in the universe would need to have a lot of mass, right? I'm not sure if I understand the concept of a Higgs inflaton field. Is that a force that was outside the sphere, or something inside the sphere?
-
Wow, that's interesting. Do you think it would be read-only?

I think you should do the math again for me because I have a really pathetic and boring life... I listen to my iPod almost non-stop from 3:00pm to 11:00pm excluding an hour for eating and bathing. That's about 7 hours a day, and even longer on weekends. On weekends, I listen to my iPod from about 12:00pm-2:00am. That's around 12 hours each day if you exclude eating and everything. The average song on my iPod is about 3 minutes long. That's a lot of writing to the memory! Yes, but the battery is much easier to replace. If the battery dies, I think it costs around $60 for Apple to fix it. If the flash dies, it will cost me around $250 for a new iPod Nano.

I think I have an idea that would make the Big Bang theory impossible. First, I think the Big Bang theory says that all the matter in the universe was once compressed into a small sphere. Now, can you imagine how much mass that small sphere must have had? If a sphere with that much mass really did exist, I don’t understand how it could possibly expand into the universe. A black hole would contain much less mass than the small sphere in the Big Bang theory. Yet, a black hole has so much gravity that light itself cannot escape. If matter cannot exceed the speed of light, wouldn’t that also mean that matter couldn’t escape from a black hole? If matter isn’t able to escape from a black hole, how could it possibly escape from the small sphere in the Big Bang theory?

Could somebody please explain the details of the string theory using fairly simple terms? I have tried researching this, but every web site uses complex terms and phrases that don't make sense to me. I also couldn't find a good explanation in any SFN threads. Are strings the building blocks of matter, smaller than atoms? What are they? What are their properties?

You forgot to mention that this period of time was also called the Scientific Revolution. Isn't that what you are against? Well... Duh! Why would somebody invent the TV or computer and then send it to a museum instead of selling it to the public? Yeah... People get jobs and are able to buy things. Isn't that just awful? Now, I actually agree with this statement. We should try to recycle more of the products we use. Ok, if you ever need major surgery, go see some guy without an education... You keep posting things without thinking about what you are saying! There are companies that recycle them. I couldn't even go 3 years back. I didn't have high-speed Internet back then! Ok... Then how would you manage these resources? Would you get rid of your car, air conditioning, heating, or the computer you are using right now? To reach your goal, you would probably need to get rid of all of these plus almost everything else you own. You are like someone going on a diet. It's easy to say it, but you just won't be able to do it.
-
How are you supposed to get the resources you need to survive if you don't compete? Competition is not just part of human society, but it is a major part of nature. Why do you keep thinking nature is so peaceful? You are living in a fantasy world! Nature is really full of death and murder. Wild animals often kill each other for resources. Competition between humans is usually much more peaceful. In modern society, we use money to compete for resources. This is what you seem to think is evil. If you want to go back to nature, you might have to kill other humans just to get your food. Why do you think these people used to die young? Did you think it was something that automatically happened? No! It was because of poverty, starvation, and disease.

That's not the lifestyle for me! I doubt you would want that either. Sure, you can go on a little nature walk on a warm day and enjoy your plants and animals. Then you can come inside, turn on the A/C, and then write posts like this on your computer. What if you were really living in a hut? Out in the rain, snow, and hurricanes? Out in the extreme temperatures of summer and winter? What if you had to go hunting for your own food, and struggle to survive? If you think that our ancestors lived some nice life in paradise, you are wrong. The survival rate was low, and lots of people died at young ages. Do you really think our ancestors were happier than we are today? Do you really think the tribes in the Amazon are enjoying this type of lifestyle? Unlike what you think, I doubt they have time to sit around enjoying the plants and animals. They are most likely fighting to survive. They are probably wishing we would drop an atomic bomb on their heads! Our lives are so much better than tribal lives and the lives of our ancestors. Who cares how long the human race survives? I don't care about my descendants. All that matters is that we are happy while we are surviving.

Somebody said in another thread that flash memory has a limited number of write cycles. I hope it is a very large limit, otherwise it will be a major problem for iPod Nanos. I think the iPod Nano writes to the flash memory everytime you play a song! It keeps track of which songs you play the most, and how many times you have played each song. You can check these statistics from iTunes. Anyway, how many write cycles does the flash memory within the iPod Nano have?

Go to: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/features/foreveryone/performance.mspx Scroll down and read the section named, "External memory devices."

Why not? We are the most powerful country in the world. I read somewhere that the US has enough nukes to destroy the entire Earth 500 times. We also have a very strong economy. It always seems like people in other countries are just jealous of us. Yes, but why does every other country feel the need to have their own domain? Just because you live in a certain country doesn't mean you need to have their domain! If you are that patriotic, just put your country's flag on your site. The .com domain is international, and has nothing to do with the US. I think all web sites in all countries should use the same domain. The Internet is international, and creating all these different domains will just be confusing. Oh wow! The people of your country must be geniuses! You just taught me a new way to spell "remember" and "characters"! You also taught me how to save time by not capitalizing proper nouns. We Americans sure have been wasting time doing stuff our stupid way!

I still like the Homestead service because I am comfortable with them. I've used them for about 5 years, and I know they are very reliable. I am also very familiar with their SiteBuilder software, and I can easily design a great web site with it. I know everything from the basics to the advanced features. I operate important web sites for myself, and other businesses. Therefore, I can't really take a risk by experimenting with another web host or web design software. I know you didn't recommend it, and I'm not blaming you because of the problems I've been having with it. I apologize if it sounded like I was blaming you. I do appreciate you trying to help me, and letting me know about some other web hosts. I will still use AwardSpace for other purposes. I do like their PHP support, and I'm sure I will find a good way to use it. They just don't seem reliable enough for me to use them to host important web sites for myself and other businesses.

The free web host I just tried wasn't very good. It has some very nice features, but it was slow and my sites kept going offline a lot. Microsoft Office Live isn't available to the public yet, so I don't know how well it will work. People said I was paying too much for web hosting, but I can only think of one time that they went offline in the past 5 years. I guess you get what you pay for. If you get a free web host, I wouldn't expect very good service from it. If you need a reliable web host, I would use http://www.homestead.com.

Wow... Great service. My sites have already gone down twice in the past few days. I'm going back to Homestead.
